Gibson Les Paul Standard. Burstbucker Pro vs Seymour Duncan Antiquities. Humbucker comparison.

Comparing the stock Burstbucker Pro with Anico 5 magnets that came stock in this Gibson Les Paul Standard from 2008 with a new set of Seymour Duncan Antiquity humbucker pickups with Alnico 2 magnets. Playing through my clone of a Dumble / Fuchs ODS 50 (overdrive special/overdrive supreme) with an Eminence Cannabis Rex 12" speaker. Adding a bit of bite from a Mad Professor Royal Blue Overdrive. Also using a mad Professor Deep Blue delay and a Neunaber Wet reverb pedal, and my Strymon El Capistan dtape echo.

Antiquities sound beautiful. Clear and musical to my ears. I run the stock, unpotted custombuckers in my R9….open and similar to the SDs.
That being said, I have an 07 std with BB pro’s and it sounds fantastic. Not inferior. Just different. In a mix, they excel and provide a securing push that I appreciate.

I preferred the Burstbuckers, the overdrive tones were way more interesting to me, and the proof is that you looked like you went after the guitar more when playing the Burstbuckers!
I just replaced my 57 Classics with Retrospec'd Antiquities a few days ago. I have another guitar with Burstbuckers. The antiquities are still new to me but so far I prefer them over the others. You are correct that it does take a little more to drive them. This is the first video of yours I've watched and just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your playing! Another great video Thor! A very fair comparison of the two pickups. Between these I do prefer the SD's as they just seem more musical. I had a set in my LP for a while but my guitar has a bright voice and I found them lacking in some mids so I eventually put my original pickups back...they are Shed Paf Daddies.....what a great name!! Great outro playing and what a great feel you have.
Thor, I am always happy to see new content from you. I'm not a SC type of guy when it comes to guitars but I will say that the finish and look of that is stellar. I really like both sets and I'm not sure which I like more.

I use a Burstbucker pro for the 12-string in the neck of my Burny SG doubleneck. The reason is that it has more clarity with the 12-string that can sound a little muddy on overdrive.

I'd say the real difference is in the magnet types of each set 😎 The A2 magnet will of course be more tame than the A5

Pros for me
the Burstbuckers are kinda aggressiv....The Duncans are more musicly satisfying for my ears.
Damn I have the same model with BB pro pickups I don't play her for quite long just stayed in her càse under my bed😅..i don't like her frets since I get used to stainless steel frets on my main guitars..she will make me sloppy 😅but I have to admit amongst all my guitars she has the most sweet tone.. thinking about to swap with stainless steel frets wonder how much it will change her tone
