One more point to ponder. A lot of the discussion evolves around the search for facts and problem solving. However, much more traffic is generated through an entertainment intention. All the search intent can have a component of commercial value and one of curiosity or entertainment. "All the searches of the car model my neighbor or boss just bought is not me looking to buy."(TM)

More than anything else, I think Google knows they can get better quality content by just putting out these types of pronouncements on upcoming updates. Ie, of all the questions being asked by Google for site owners, maybe two will technically be baked into the algo. The rest are just Google's 'wish list' of standards of content creation they want to see, but don't have a way to technically use as a ranking factor in the algo. They know full well they can 'scare' people into improving their quality, and fair enough.
But it's also like what Mark said - Ok, so you take a hit for a particular page as a result of this update, who is going to fill up that vacuum? The sites below you were probably indeed inferior or much less relevant to the keyword...so they are going to reward those sites because your content content 'summarizes what others have already said'. Well, why were the pages not ahead of you to begin with if they ostensibly were not 'summrizing what others have said'? This just doesn't follow!
Alas, the more things change the more things stay the same!!

      This.
G has a long history of intimidation to achieve what it cannot do by its algo.
Guest Posts, tiered backlinks, bought social media profiles, AI content.... all supposedly detectable by G, yet all have high ranking examples in the SERPS.

How do you suppose Google determines, that a web page contains only content that has been mentioned on the other top 10 pages (Optimizer tools like Surfer, etc.)?
    - I'd like to know how they do this simultaneously as the top ten differ for the ~ 25 keywords a page might reasonably rank for
    - How are they keeping up with the changes in the top 10 - If they punish 3 out of the top 10 pages for this, then what come sup may or may not contain the topics and so they either did not improve the SERP at all or they did just move the basis of the measurement, which should/could make the penalty go away

1st time not listening in the pod 👏 I’ve got a small blog about traveling with kids from personal experiences and am hoping this will help sites like mine when coming up against the giants that simply outsource or generate ai content en mass.

I'm kind of excited about this update. I've dedicated my entire life to my site and was top of the rankings for the past 20+ years. Now these AI bots come along and bump me off! But they don't have experience, and their sites are not helpful. I'm hoping they go away but who knows...

I was looking for this on the podcast. Is there a reason why it is not there?

The Chechia and Seicheles thing is massive?? Wow I have it in my site too. Maybe now they send from other countries as well. I see some not set traffic where it has no time on page and 100% bounce rate.

I see Google mentioning 'expertise' and that data point can be pulled from the documents author schema, if it exist at all

I feel like they are training an army of AI quality raters with machine learning which always used to be manual and could never hope to cover the internet at scale and evaluate it by their quality rater guidelines.

guys I'm subbed and noted, BUT never see a video "suggested" from you or notification, I like every vid I watch, but have to specifically search YOUR channel when I want to watch anything, thanks to Google, really gets on my nerves a dominant monopolist that nobody talks about...fed up of being fed what they want YOU to know, not what YOU need to know.

Thanks chaps 👍 The word on the net is…. Googlers have internally nicknamed this the Apocalypse update 😆 Or maybe that’s their T5 text to text transfer transformer weapon lol

But didn't Google just talk about increasing the power of "conscientious" in ranking? That would go directly against increasing diversity between the top 10 results.

The first thing that came to my mind when I read about this update is that it will target PAA sites.

Our take: stop paraphrasing content. First understand the topic yourself, then write. You have to add your original opinions and views. Also, get rid of all your AI Content generation tools. The whole content should target the 'intent' of the keywords or search query you are targeting. Say, for example, you are writing on 'Best Restaurant in Kolkata', each part of the content must relate to that topic. Even if I read that content from the middle, I should be able to understand what the article is talking about.
Make keyword intent your best friend if you want to avoid repercussions from the Helpful Content Update.

48:12 expert means you know what you are talking about, and recommending good stuff. Newbies generally make content that clearly looks like "made in china" type of junk. Show his site in front of industry experts and top influencers. They will laugh at it. Right now everyone is exposing fake gurus online, and exposing someone's true intention.

With every algo update it's the same old thing, "write for humans" blah, blah, blah...Ironic because how can an algo know what is "writing for humans"...Besides, it's always a roll of the dice. It's a zero sum game, some win and some lose....

    • @zbigniewvolkov7952

It means: write for humans, not the search engine. For example, back in the day people used keyword stuffing. That's for SE and not humans, which is easily spotted by Google.

I love seeing “experts” speculating, so ironic actually. In the case of seo, a person that has done it for a decade is not really anymore of an expert than someone doing for a dedicated year. You may be an expert at creating content for that many years but you’re not a Google expert. You’ll never be an expert at something you’ll never know how it works. I’ve hired several seo experts over the years for my agencies. Probably one of the hardest positions to hire for. Seo experts tend to be very arrogant even though they barely know how the shit works.
What about this video indexing? Finally, google is starting to weigh video content.
Lastly, ad rates will not drop this time for many reasons neither of you tapped into. I spend $110K a month on google ads alone. Costs are higher right now because so many are running ads. However every industry is different.
