Another good one is "Miracle Man" by Ozzy. For those who don't know, it's aimed at televangelist Jimmy Swaggart, who spent the better part of the 80s slandering rock music and especially Ozzy before being exposed as an adulterer. As expected, Ozzy had a lot of fun calling out "Jimmy Sinner" for his hypocrisy.
He also hated Stryper, a band that became Christian because of Swaggert. Televangelist hated Stryper so much they released a secular album. Miracle man in a great song and video
@@bladestar2322 You sure about that? She deserves more hate than serial killers, child molesters, dictators, wife beaters, murderers (no she didn't as there isn't any proof), drunk drivers who kill people, Hitler, Pol Pot, rapists, etc. Do you see where I am going with this? I don't love her, and I don't hate her. I am quite honestly ambivalent about her. Until I watched this video, I hadn't thought about her in years, but apparently she lives in people's heads. I don't get it. She hasn't done anything to anyone in the UA-cam comments personally, but she gets all of the bandwagon hate. She hasn't even been in the news for years. She was clearly a drug addict and has borderline personality disorder. Anyone wonder if she had an abusive childhood? Kurt was a drug addict and was depressed. Do you think it was easy to be married to him? There are always two sides to a story. Dave Grohl wasn't in the marriage, so whatever he says doesn't matter. Men say things to other people all the time - like when they tell the other woman their marriage is basically over. So when Dave says Kurt said this, it doesn't make it true. In fact, it doesn't even mean Kurt said it at all. I get the impression Dave is more of a drama queen than Courtney. Sorry for the overly long rant, but geez, people, let it go. Move on. Courtney has.
Honorable mention, Eeyore by Slipknot, about a mosh pit bully nick named Thor. the guy was tall, long blond haired thug, who was at every show, and, just knocked fans around, so, Corey wrote the lyrics, the band provided the music and all the fans beat up Thor during the song's debut
I’m really glad you mentioned this track, I love the song and the backstory is amazing. I’m glad the dude got what he deserved in the end. Another track to be mentioned is Get This also by Slipknot. There was some band in their early days that tried to claim that the success of Slipknot came from that group which pissed off the guys so they wrote Get This. I know I’m just restating stuff that you all probably know already but I really though it was worth stating somewhere.
"Silly Love Songs" by Paul McCartney One of the cheerier diss tracks in music history, this song was a direct response to comments from McCartney's former bandmate John Lennon, who derided McCartney's song "Yesterday" as nothing more than a silly love song. Paul decided to fire back in song, with the thesis of the entire song being 'So what? There's nothing wrong with love songs and I'm going to keep writing them.' And then that song became the highest-charting song of 1976.
If we're talking Lennon-McCartney diss tracks we should start with McCartney's "Too Many People" (even though he denied it being about Lennon) and Lennon's "How Do You Sleep" (with Harrison on guitar!). "The only good thing you did was yesterday", jeez...
I may be mistaken but I don't think Lennon was speaking about 'yesterday' specifically when he said that, just McCartney's overall tendency to write love songs in general.
Barracuda by Heart is one of the best middle finger songs written. Pissed off at their producer because he wanted the Wilson sisters to do a lesbian angle, Ann and Nancy went to work and created one of the best known songs in Heart's catalog.
The Wilson sisters continuously shot themselves in the foot over the decades for being notorious as two of the most difficult musicians in the industry to work with...the manager/producer/publicist (they have all been blamed at different points) was/were obviously pigs, but the sisters behavior through their careers diminishes some of the sympathy I would normally have for them...
@@johnjohn37371 Well people grow & evolve. The "Wilson Sisters" certainly changed later in life & became famous for helping many many many bands behind the scenes in the Seattle scene & are cherished. Chris Cornell was one of thier biggest cheerleaders 💓
The story about Barracuda that I heard was somewhat similar, only it was a reporter from some magazine asking if her and Nancy had some kind of thing going on
@@Elhastezy888 that's true...they advocated for several bands over the years, and not just from Seattle...it was just their own band where they repeatedly blew things all to hell...oh, well, it's all in the past anyway...
"Go your own way" by Fleetwood Mac is Lynsey Buckingham taking a shot at Stevie Nicks after their break up. She's gone on record several times saying that she found the lyrics "Packing up. Shacking up is all you wanna do" very hurtful and disrespectful. She also says that she wrote the song "Dreams" as a counterpoint of sorts, acknowledging that things were bad at the time but she could see a day in the future were they would get past all the pain and hurt and be OK.
Those songs are from Rumors, which is practically a whole album of insult songs. "Go your own way" wasn't the only "I hate you Stevie" song on that album, and Dreams wasn't the only "bite me Lindsey" song on that album (Gold Dust Woman is more biting in my opinion). "You make loving fun" is Christine telling John "my new bf is so much better then you," and The Chain is every member of the band screaming at each other. On the flip side, Don't Stop is "this drama will blow over eventually," which considering that Fleetwood Mac managed to stay together was kinda true.
Nah hot dog is a banger ass song. Don’t sleep on Wes borlands riffs just cause Fred is douchey. And I think the diss in the chorus worked well. I doubt they cared about paying reznor too. They didn’t care about the money they just wanted to diss him.
@@manueltapia1859 A real musician? Since when has Trent Reznor topped any greatest musicians list? Limp Bizkit were right to call him out. It's unfortunate that it took decades later to finally got a clear version of events instead of some jackass blaming a band who played on the second day for a riot that happened on the third day. That's one slow burning match.
heres one that shocked me, Hollaback Girl by Gwen Stefani is about Courtney Love. it was something along the lines of in an interview Courtney Love called Gwen Stefani a cheerleader and the song is pretty much embracing that idea while also saying fuck you to Courtney Love. Absolutely amazing
No weird al did not make Nirvana. There’s a ton of songs written about Courtney Love she’s a pretty awful person. I think Tori Amos has a hate song she wrote about Courtney too
Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know" really is the most vicious song written by a female singer, even more than any Adele song. "Are you thinking of me when you @#$& her?" Hard to top that.
I know Dave Coulier has come forward but listen to you oughtta know side by side to Carly Simon's You're so vain and you realize the song is just an update thematically then you realize both songs were produced by the same guy (Glenn Ballard) makes you wonder about the true emotion of the 2nd Mind you I love both songs have seen both Carly and Alanis live and both rule but this does stick in the back of my mind a bit...esp since alanis' later work which is very underrated is much more folk rock
@@iancclark1 yes but young ballard was involved ot was a big deal when the JLP was out given Alanis' ahem...prior work in Canada...thanks for clarifying but i remember some controversy of the thematic similarities It has been almost 30 years Got it from the BTM on Alanis
I look back on my late middle school/early high school years when I bought and enjoyed Limp Bizcit's music with a little less cringe knowing at least one purchase I made put some money in Trent Reznor's pockets. I saw NIN live last week and they were incredible!
I always remember an old Kerrang interview with Trent Reznor, in which his response to Hot Dog was something like 'it's hard to feel insulted by a guy who probably stayed up all night to write a song called Break Stuff'. It's probably the classiest clap-back I've ever seen.
I’m surprised Rocked didn’t mention the part where Freddie straight up tells the guy to kill himself. That caught me off guard when I first heard it. Dude really could be “Mr. Badguy” sometimes lol.
A couple other rock diss tracks that come to mind Guns N Roses infamous “Get In the Ring” where Axl straight up rants for like a whole minute “Caught Like A Fly” by Falling In Reverse. A song where Ronnie Radke, after feeling betrayed by Max Green, mentions the abuse Max’s father gave him (“you have left my heart black and blue/just like your father did to you”), says that Max’s late grandfather would’ve been ashamed of him, addresses his drug addictions, and tells Max that when he dies, he will be smiling and will have sex with his girl. Funny enough, Ronnie and Max buried the hatchet later on and Max played bass for Falling In Reverse for a while years later. “Life Lessons Learned The Hard Way” by A Day To Remember is a very scathing diss aimed at Hunter Moore that heavily implies that the band members of ADTR at one point parked a van out by his hotel garage with the intentions of beating the shit out of Hunter with a tire iron. “Coattails of a Dead Man” by Primus hasn’t been outright stated, but seems very heavily implied to be about……Courtney Love, of course “Starfuckers Inc” by Nine Inch Nails, also aimed at…..Courtney Love! (And Marilyn Manson) “Aesthetics of Hate” by Machine Head is a very brutal tirade against a journalist/music critic who said disgusting and disrespectful things about Dimebag Darrel after he was killed
I can't believe it's this far into the comments and just now being mentioned. Not sure if it was ever confirmed he was the subject. But there are few songs as full of venom as that one.
Blink-182's Man Overboard sort of counts as an insult song. It was written by Mark and Tom in regards to their original drummer Scott Raynor and how he was constantly drinking to the point where his reliability as a band member was too much to keep him around.
The thing about "Bye Bye Beautiful" ... considering what Tarja's husband revealed to the wide internet years later; it seems it wasn't the band that was mad at her. Just Tuomas. Marco was very friendly to everyone and kept in touch even after their fallout.
Not surprised at all. The impression I've gotten throughout the years is that Tuomas was in love with Tarja. If he was, his bitterness is at least explained. Otherwise, where is all his bitterness over Tarja and her husband coming from? Never made much sense to me.
Green Day has TONS of insult songs. Songs like “Platypus (I Hate You)”, “Haha You’re Dead”, “Time of Your Life” (kinda, cause it is a breakup song), to name a few.
this is true, the whole concept of Hollaback Girl came from Courtney calling Gwen a cheerleader to insult her, so Gwen made a cheerleading style song and video that dissed Gwen and became a huge radio single, arguably the biggest song of Gwen's solo career and the biggest Courtney Love diss track
I watched the whole video just waiting for Death on Two Legs. I love that song so much and its almost humorous to listen to the lyrics and how far Freddy went. Insults Including (But not limited to): -Misguided Old Mule -Big-Talking Small Fry -Hot Air Balloon -Overgrown School Boy -A Dog with Disease -King of the Sleaze ...as well as other lines such as: -"You never had a hart of your own." -"You can kiss my ass goodbye." -"Do you feel like suicide? I think you should." -"Insane, should be put inside." All this on the opening song of Night at the Opera, the album that, by most accounts, is Queen's masterpiece. All this on the same album as You're My Best Friend, Love of my Life, and Bohemian Rhapsody. Crazy.
Lamb of God's "Redneck" was a potshot directed at their own frontman, which makes the context behind the song even more hilarious since both the writer of the song's lyrics and said frontman are still in the band.
Check out "Better without you" by Evanescence that takes a stab at their old record label Wind up. The song was released on the 18th anniversary of the release of their first album Fallen from the record label. The song starts out with a wind up doll sound and she even says we are Fallen in the song.
Was looking for this one. Also love the snark that "Gift" by his side project The Sisterhood (just to block former bandmates from using the name) opens with a woman saying "Two-Five-Zero-Zero-Zero" because the record label offered 25,000 PS to whichever Sisterhood delivered an album.
I think Trash Theory has a video called Songs That Are Probably About Courtney Love - Gwen Stefani's song with This shit is Bananas, Tori Amos's Professional Widow, NIN's 'No You Don't', possibly the Foo's 'Stacked Actor'.
I've had a theory for years that "Money for Nothing" by Dire Straits was written about Motley Crue, particularly when you get to a certain verse (you know which one) where I think it becomes clear given the time period. And given how you also had "Dude Looks Like a Lady" by Aerosmith written about Vince Neil, and "Tattooed Millionaire" by Bruce Dickinson written about Nikki Sixx, they certainly knew how to push musicians' buttons.
"Money For Nothing" is well documented to be about a man going off on rock stars on MTV and how they make millions for doing jack shit while normal people have to actually work for a living.
@@johndelgado8536 it could have been directed at any glam rock group or hair metal act of the era. It's too broad to say with 100% certinty that it was ment for Motley Crue. It was more about the style than an individual group.
Breakdown by Seether, which is essentially Shaun Morgan's response to CMWYS (even though he stated he wouldn't respond, he wrote two songs about Amy, Breakdown and No Jesus Christ) is better than CMWYS.
I've never thought of Call Me When You're Sober as a diss track... of course, having had that relationship, it mostly just feels like validation when you get the heck out
I've never heard the song, I can tell it's art and not dis track even though a diss track can be both but it's still not a diss track. I'll write a diss track about abc youtube's parent company, going full big algo data on humans, and it will be purely a diss track.
For all the difficulties she may or may not have been a part of and the struggles after, one is never left feeling like Yoko Ono doesn't truly care about John or his legacy and she's made strides to not destroy completely relationships with the other Beatles. I honestly don't think that I can feel Courtney Love even truly cares about Nirvana or Kurt's legacy. She cares about being noticed as part of it.
These Precious Things by Tori Amos isn’t exactly rock but definitely a diss on Trent Reznor with the line, “you can make me c**, that doesn’t make you Jesus “
As a Nightwish diehard, Master Passion Greed was the one that immediately jumped to mind but I get why Bye Bye Beautiful was chosen since it was a single and all. But kudos for making sure both got mentioned. 🤘🏻
I didn't like Annette's vocals so tuned out of Nightwish for a bit. I do love Floor's voice, though. I am pretty sure that Tarja's song Until My Last Breath is a jab back at Nightwish, but I don't know for sure. Dark Star definitely sounds aimed at someone, but I don't know who. Supposedly they are all chill now, so we'll see.
@@RockenGangster Why would there be one, though? Nightwish and Marko parted on good terms and in understanding that it's the best for him to leave, I don't see any reason for something like Bye Bye Beautiful happening here xD
@@RockenGangster Marko left due to mental health and overall being pissed at the music industry. He just needed a break. Don't see why there'd be a song about him for that
Fred Durst is awful at many things, but who would have thought that he is also terrible at throwing shade. Dude could probably throw a rock at the ground and miss.
That Smell by Lynyrd Skynyrd. This song is about Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington, who bought a new car (a Ford Torino), got drunk, and crashed it into a tree, then a house ("whiskey bottles, brand new car, oak tree you're in my way"). The band was supposed to start a tour in a few days, but had to postpone it because of Rossington's injuries
the two that come to my mind are "Enemy" by Sevendust which drummer Morgan Rose wrote against Coal Chamber vocalist Dez Fafara, and both "Love And Luxury" and "Ever Be" by Korn which were written about then-ex guitarist Brian "Head" Welch
Ministry's 'Ghouldiggers' This was a song that took a hard shot at music executives/companies, who've profited off of dead musician's material. Al Jorgensen lists off notable names like Janet Joplin, Kurt Cobain and others are some examples. It was also backed by lyrics like "You vultures want me dead What's up with that? You make more money off the carcass that is dead What's up with that?" That clearly paints the picture and Al knows that he too, may very well be on that list as well.
For everyone who's interested there is a video by a creator called Trash Theory called Songs That Are Probably About Courtney Love. Also Sweet Home Alabama was written to diss Neil Young.
mushroomhead made a song towards slipknot and yet nobody never talks about it is a direct diss towards slipknot so i hear one of my middle school friends told me about it and im surprised slipknot did not make a song direct back at them
@@thereturnofdarthcaedus that's cause mushroomed are trash in comparison to slipknot. They are utterly forgotten by time, meanwhile slipknots legends. Also that mushroomed song wicked which didn't help xD
Two of my favorite insult songs were from the same artist, from the same album, and had the same target. I'm talking about John Fogerty's "Mr. Greed" and "Zanz Kant Danz" (the latter had its name changed as the target was so insulted by it).
I will always remember being visiting Buffalo years on July 4th and they played American Woman, I was like, seriously? Listen to the lyrics, " American Woman, stay away from me... " Older one of course. 🇨🇦🇺🇲
You could put any song off of rumours on this list. Also the new Primus song Conspiranoia is basically an 11 minute long insult to all the conspiracy theorists in the world.
Speaking of Trent Reznor: apparently the Nine Inch Nails song “Piggy” is said to be about a certain band member that Trent fell out with during the making of the Downward Spiral, another Limp Bizkit insult song called “Just Drop Dead” said to be about Britney Spears and her “relationship” with Fred Durst (which spears denied), “Submission” by Sex Pistols is said to be not necessarily an insult song but more of a piss take of Malcom McLaren (does that one count?) but a PiL song that is definitely an Insult song to Malcom McLaren is “Public Image” (as if we didn’t know that Johnny Rotten hated Malcom back then)
And who would you say that that song is directed to? I happen to love that song, but I can't seem to figure out who he directed his anger at. Thank you if you get a chance to respond.
@@mkjk1564 Speaking about what the song is about, Pantera's drummer Vinnie Paul said: "The story behind this song is we were opening for Megadeth, and there was a guy that was flipping us off the whole show and so we stopped the show. And I was like, 'Listen, in case you haven't noticed there's 18,000 people who really dig what we're doing. You're the only one doing that stupid shit without even having to egg the crowd on.' Ten guys just jumped the guy and beat the shit out of him. His dad called the manager after all the lawsuits and this and that, and basically said, 'Give me five minutes with that Phil Anselmo guy. I want to whup his ass.' "[1] Pantera's vocalist Phil Anselmo spoke about what the song is about saying: "There are always gold-diggers out there. The way I remember it was there was this kid that swore that I jumped off the stage and beat him up. Well, that was bullshit. That did not happen at all. When the father asked for five minutes alone with me, our manager responded aptly and perfectly: 'No, you don't.' [Laughs] 'I really doubt that,' and basically hung up on the guy. But once that story was conveyed to me, it actually made me angry because it wasn't fucking true. I basically plucked out those words from my agitator's mouth and yeah, man, 'five minutes alone,' fucking bring it."[1]
Not a rock song per se but 'You're So Vain' by Carly Simon is a fun diss track. She's always played coy about who it's subject is but most think it's Warren Beatty. Another candidate is 'Diamonds and Rust' by Joan Baez (rock fans will know the Judas Priest cover) which is her break up song to Bob Dylan.
Joan Baez did a number of songs about Bob Dylan. It is interesting to see how they progress. Winds of the Old Days, from the same album is another one. Visions of Joanna is supposed to be his song about her.
Who's so vain is one of the best mysteries in rock...believe she said it was David geffen (certainly fits) but then walked it back And yes it fits as does cry me a river ( Vicious attack on Britney Spears) my favorite mistake (At Eric Clapton even the opening is a style parody of Clapton then again knowing Sheryl Crows other choices in men o think slow hand knew when to fold em lol) Alanis you ougtta know (Dave Coulier has said its about him but given both songs have the same producer it could also just be an update and tribute to you're so vain)
Another good one would be The Vandals and Agent Orange. The Vandals made a song titled "Aging Orange" making fun of how Agent Orange thought that the one of the Offspring's songs (Come Out and Play) took riffs from their song (Bloodstains). The song also talks about how Agent Orange is becoming old and that they have to go after newer punk rock bands just to stay relevant.
Much of Falling in Reverse’s first album The Drug in Me is you was largely a diss towards his former band Escape the Fate, which makes it hilarious that years later both bands toured together to celebrate the album going gold.
John Lennon's "How Do You Sleep At Night" was a counterpunch to McCartney in response to McCartney's song "Too Many People" - a song which first took a swipe at Lennon.
So great to see Death on Two Legs getting some love!!! My favorite Queen song!!! If you ever do this again, maybe look into “Liar” by Sex Pistols, I believe it’s about Malcom McLaren.
"Limits" by Bad Omens is directed at The Amity Affliction and Senses Fail after they talked crap about Bad Omens and Noah Sebastian when Bad Omens backed out of a tour due to conflicts over their contract.
Starfucker by Nine Inch Nails is also a song about Courtney Love. She was the one who was responsible for Trent and Tori Amos breaking up. Tori used the work in the song Profesional Widow.
"Narcisista" by The Warning is a great clap back song aimed at the haters who complained about them singing in English instead of Spanish. (They are from Mexico.) So they wrote their first Spanish song, telling the haters what they can go do, IN SPANISH, so there would be no misunderstanding. :)
Wow I never knew the history between Amy Lee and saun from seether. Never knew they were together. After watching this video and seeing that lyric about "call me when you're sober." The song "fine again" makes so much more sense. Especially the lyrics: "You say it's over I can sigh again, yeah Why try to stay sober When I'm dyin' here?"
Enemy by Sevendust was directed at Dez Fafara from Coal Chamber/Devildriver. Morgan (drummer and writer) used to call him "Pez" because he "wanted to pull his head open and yank his tongue out the back of his neck." or something, and Enemy was his outlet against his wife's apparently bad treatment from Dez (his wife being Rayna Foss, ex-bassist of Coal Chamber).
More country then rock, but I nominate "Not Ready To Make Nice" by the Chicks. The legend goes that certain lyrics were based on a disturbing letter by some wingnut in Texas aimed at Natalie Maines, who threatened to go full Ed Gein on her for criticising President Bush. She stated that she wrote the song to get back at the haters like him. This story is even more sadder when you consider that everyone in the entertainment industry, not just music, now recieves threats like these on a regular basis thanks to incidents like the Mass Effect 3 shitshow
On a related note the rock band Saliva had the song 2 steps back which included a couple lines about the “The Dixie Chickens running their mouth in a foreign land”
Alestorm once went on tour with Gravedigger, and the two bands hated each other. In one interview, Chris Boltendahl -- the lead singer of Gravedigger -- called Alestorm a "rumpelkombo". As far as anyone can tell, he made up the German word to describe Alestorm as a bunch of clowns. So Alestorm wrote a song called "Rumpelkombo". It's only two seconds long, comprised of a brief keytar riff and shouting "Rumpelkombo!" And Boltendahl was credited as a writer on "Rumpelkombo", meaning Boltendahl was entitled to royalties every time that song is played in recording or in concert. The amount of the royalties depends on the length of the song, and the song is literally two seconds long. The upshot is that Alestorm plays "Rumpelkombo" in literally every single one of their concerts. And every time they do, they send Gravedigger a royalty check worth less than the paper it's printed on. That's some god-tier trolling right there.
Devin townsend has a few.: S.Y.L about a shitty former job, Happy Camper about shitty music execs, and his “Cooked on Phonics, Punky Bruster” album which mocks pop punk, bands that change their sound to follow popular trends they don’t actually like just to make money, and possibly the aforementioned music execs that wanted him to go pop punk
I was playing "Death on Two Legs" on my college radio station and while it was playing the Dean of Students called the station letting me know how much he loved this song, mind you, I was in college at the time in 1993 and I was at a Christian private college.
Emilie Autumn’s musical teardown of Billy Corgan in “Liar” is a notable one. Honestly, it’s surprising there aren’t *a lot more* angry songs about Corgan.
Surprised The most obvious Insult song ever, "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morrissette, didn't make the cut this time considering Alanis has been more than public with the fact that it was a gid at her then-ex, Dave Coullier..
I think he was going for the more rock side. Alanis is like... powerpop, I guess? Dave Navarro and Flea were on that track anyway, it makes sense to include it.
@@DragonTigerBoss I think it's close enough that you could count it as Rock for the sake of discussion. It's certainly heavier than the rest of her known catalog..
Given your love for Sevendust, I'm surprised you didn't include Enemy. Morgan Rose was furious at Dez Fafara from Coal Chamber for basically treating his wife (Coal Chamber bassist Rayna Foss) and the rest of the band like shit. Morgan even said he nicknamed him "Pez" because he "wanted to pull his head back and rip out his fucking throat"... For a Christian man, Morgan is a goddamn savage! That being said, however, it seems like they've patched things up since then, with LJ even saying that he liked Dez's band after Coal Chamber, and supports whatever he does in the future. BTW Hot Dog is fucking terrible. It was always fucking terrible. The best thing about it was reading an interview with Trent where he was asked about the song. He was like, "I don't even know how this could be a diss. Maybe I'm too stupid to read between the lines, but it doesn't sound like a song about anything. But hey, if it makes people happy, let them make whatever they want." Trent's a class act with a trucker mouth, and I love that shit
I always though Dio’s Rainbow In The Dark was a dig at Ritchie Blackmore, and Tobias Forge, on Ghost’s fourth album, has a few songs that go after some of his ex nameless ghouls, Simon in particular…
Anthrax had a similar experience touring with Motley. The song "Nobody Knows Anything" is about that experience and Charlie Benante intentionally drums rings around Tommy Lee on that track.
Death On Two Legs is one of the most vicious diss tracks ever written. I think it fits numerous music industry characters of the time. Heart’s Barracuda is based on the same. There were a lot of sleazy individuals on the management side of the industry back then that’s for sure.
“Sweet Home Alabama” is a good example too. I’m sure most people know this by now, but it was directed at Neil Young because the members of Skynyrd felt that his songs “Southern Man” and “Alabama” were generalizing Southerners as being racist when segregation was really being recognized as nonsensical. Neil later admitted that “I don’t like my words when I listen to it. They are accusatory and condescending, not fully thought out, and too easy to misconstrue.”
Bye Bye Beautiful is a great but Master Passion Greed is Nightwish's most badass song. I hate that people threw such a tantrum over Anette because Dark Passion Play is my favorite NW album.
Ah so someone beat me to mentioning Master Passion Greed. Also about time I find who also thinks DPP is their favorite. Granted in my case it's probably because it was the first album I've heard.
"Nightmare Fanatic" Amaranth got me into them. Probaby imo one of the best female fronted bands of the 2000s next to Evanescence, Within Temptation, Epica and Flyleaf
"Go Your Own Way" Fleetwood Mac. "Holla Back Girl" Gwen Stefani. "Get In The Ring" Guns n Roses. "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" Spin Doctors. And anything recorded by Eminem.
Not sure if it's in the same ballpark, but "Something That I'm Not" by Megadeth was a shot at Lars Ulrich after the way an intimate conversation between Lars and Dave was edited in the documentary "Some Kind of Monster."
'How Do You Sleep' by John Lennon (1971) takes a dig at at former Beatle bandmate Paul McCartney. '"Those freaks was right when they said you was dead", "So Sgt. Pepper took you by surprise" and "The only thing you done was yesterday / And since you've gone you're just another day" are some of the lyrics in the song referring to McCarntney.
Wasn't Foo Fighters' "Stacked Actors" also about Courtney Love? And, while it's not quite a rock song, Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl". Also, Arch Enemy's "Avalanche" is about Alissa White-Gluz's former band The Agonist.

almost every song on fleetwood macs album rumours, so many things going on within the band that the album was nearly never finished
The Ozzman had a TON of fun with it. Lol
He also hated Stryper, a band that became Christian because of Swaggert. Televangelist hated Stryper so much they released a secular album. Miracle man in a great song and video
Is Jimmy Swaggart the person in question when Iron Maiden mentioned a Jimmy Reptile in their song Holy Smoke?
Great call
In a similar vein, Genesis' "Jesus He Knows Me" is a clever swipe at televangelists, and the video made it very obvious.
Insult songs directed at Courtney Love could be its own separate list.
It could be it's own seperate channel and almost never run out of content.
But if anyone deserves all the hate, it's her! Totally justified as there few people in history more deserving of being despised!
@@bladestar2322💯Accurate!
Indeed it could. Can’t think of a more deserving recipient.

Love that story and song
Man, now I know why every time I listened to that song, I had an urge to go get revenge on all the dickheads in high school.
I didn't know Thor was a Slipknot fan
Everybody in the Hundred Acre Wood loves Slipknot. Pooh, Tigger, everyone!
"Silly Love Songs" by Paul McCartney
One of the cheerier diss tracks in music history, this song was a direct response to comments from McCartney's former bandmate John Lennon, who derided McCartney's song "Yesterday" as nothing more than a silly love song. Paul decided to fire back in song, with the thesis of the entire song being 'So what? There's nothing wrong with love songs and I'm going to keep writing them.' And then that song became the highest-charting song of 1976.
Always shooting for the lowest common denominator: the Key to Success…
If we're talking Lennon-McCartney diss tracks we should start with McCartney's "Too Many People" (even though he denied it being about Lennon) and Lennon's "How Do You Sleep" (with Harrison on guitar!). "The only good thing you did was yesterday", jeez...
@@AgnessaMo That is a great song, for him.

When I saw the video title this is literally the first song that popped into my head.

Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know" really is the most vicious song written by a female singer, even more than any Adele song. "Are you thinking of me when you @#$& her?" Hard to top that.

A couple other rock diss tracks that come to mind
Guns N Roses infamous “Get In the Ring” where Axl straight up rants for like a whole minute
“Caught Like A Fly” by Falling In Reverse.
“Coattails of a Dead Man” by Primus hasn’t been outright stated, but seems very heavily implied to be about……Courtney Love, of course
“Starfuckers Inc” by Nine Inch Nails, also aimed at…..Courtney Love! (And Marilyn Manson)
“Aesthetics of Hate” by Machine Head is a very brutal tirade against a journalist/music critic who said disgusting and disrespectful things about Dimebag Darrel after he was killed
Not strictly speaking rock, but rock adjacent is "Professional Widow" by Tori Amos... I'll give you three guesses who that's about...
Only axl could jab at multiple people in one song 😂

Anyone talking shit on Dime should get their ass kicked.
Trent dissed a good amount of people in the Starfuckers music video (e.g. Billy Corgan and David Lee Roth) as well.
You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette was about the guy who played Uncle Joey on Full House. I'm still not sure why I know that.
I can't believe it's this far into the comments and just now being mentioned. Not sure if it was ever confirmed he was the subject. But there are few songs as full of venom as that one.
Who is Uncle Joey?
Blink-182's Man Overboard sort of counts as an insult song. It was written by Mark and Tom in regards to their original drummer Scott Raynor and how he was constantly drinking to the point where his reliability as a band member was too much to keep him around.
How did I not know this? 😲
Yep
They would not have blown up without Travis Barker, but Dude Ranch is a great pop punk album
Buckcherry's song Crazy Bitch is about Paris Hilton. I always thought that was great

-Overgrown School Boy
-A Dog with Disease
-King of the Sleaze

-"You never had a hart of your own."
-"You can kiss my ass goodbye."
-"Do you feel like suicide? I think you should."
-"Insane, should be put inside."
All this on the opening song of Night at the Opera, the album that, by most accounts, is Queen's masterpiece.
Did they fool him to sing it not knowing it was about him or what?
Check out "Better without you" by Evanescence that takes a stab at their old record label Wind up. The song was released on the 18th anniversary of the release of their first album Fallen from the record label. The song starts out with a wind up doll sound and she even says we are Fallen in the song.

@@johndelgado8536 it could have been directed at any glam rock group or hair metal act of the era. It's too broad to say with 100% certinty that it was ment for Motley Crue. It was more about the style than an individual group.

Who's so vain is one of the best mysteries in rock...believe she said it was David geffen (certainly fits) but then walked it back
And yes it fits as does cry me a river ( Vicious attack on Britney Spears) my favorite mistake (At Eric Clapton even the opening is a style parody of Clapton then again knowing Sheryl Crows other choices in men o think slow hand knew when to fold em lol)
Alanis you ougtta know (Dave Coulier has said its about him but given both songs have the same producer it could also just be an update and tribute to you're so vain)
Great song, but it’s actually titled “How Do You Sleep?”
@@seanm3226 Thanks for the pickup. It seems that all you want is the truth.
@@debonaire_nerd Yes, just gimme some truth.
Random side note, Shangri-la Dee Da is a really great album.
So great to see Death on Two Legs getting some love!!! My favorite Queen song!!! If you ever do this again, maybe look into “Liar” by Sex Pistols, I believe it’s about Malcom McLaren.
such a great song! Queen at their best
did the Sex pistols do any songs that weren't an insult to somebody?
@@SpamEggSausage Fair point 😂😂
John Lyndon’s band Public Image Ltd did a song called Public Image, which is a whole diatribe against Malcolm McClaren.
(They are from Mexico.)
So they wrote their first Spanish song, telling the haters what they can go do, IN SPANISH, so there would be no misunderstanding. :)
Wow I never knew the history between Amy Lee and saun from seether. Never knew they were together. After watching this video and seeing that lyric about "call me when you're sober." The song "fine again" makes so much more sense. Especially the lyrics:
"You say it's over I can sigh again, yeah
Why try to stay sober When I'm dyin' here?"
When Dick Cheney signed Borat's water boarding kit was horrifying.
Rayna is a goddess.
Crying like a bitch is one of my favorite godsmack songs
Sludge Factory by Alice In Chains
Definitely a dig at Corporate Management
"Burning Bridges" by Slaughter was about former KISS guitarist Vinnie Vincent, who 2 Slaughter members were in a band with called Invasion.
One of the few modern country songs that I actually like. Good choice 👍
Wow now that is some next level petty shit
She stole my plush spider
Violet by Hole is also a diss against Corgan - one of the few diss songs written BY Courtney Love.
Smashing young man by Collective Soul is also about him.
While Starfuckers, Inc. by NIN isn't about Billy Corgan, Trent dissed him in the music video.
I didn’t even know that song was about Corgan. Wild.
"You Know I'm Right" on About Face by David Gilmour was a shot at Roger Waters
I was expecting a different *tool* song: "Hooker With a P****" (a 'Take That' at a poser fanbase)
That was faith wasn’t it (the ghost song)
Anthrax had a similar experience touring with Motley. The song "Nobody Knows Anything" is about that experience and Charlie Benante intentionally drums rings around Tommy Lee on that track.
Tommy, as good as he is/was, was never in the same league as Charlie when it came to drumming. Not even close.
Death On Two Legs is one of the most vicious diss tracks ever written. I think it fits numerous music industry characters of the time. Heart’s Barracuda is based on the same. There were a lot of sleazy individuals on the management side of the industry back then that’s for sure.
Oh god, that Limp Bizkit one is priceless! Paying the person you’re dissing is the very definition of cutting your nose off to spite your face
Of the Anette Era albums, Dark Passion Play is the best.
I preferred Imaginaerum myself. The range of styles was impressive.
Ah so someone beat me to mentioning Master Passion Greed. Also about time I find who also thinks DPP is their favorite. Granted in my case it's probably because it was the first album I've heard.
@@MsMeiriona Imaginaerum was poorly written and the orchestral elements were used like musical spackle. Case in point: Scaretale.
Since you mentioned in the video, I'd love for you to do a video about Trainwreck: Woodstock 99 and your thoughts about it.
I love your content! I wish you would upload more. But I understand life is busy! Take care.
The entire "Rumors" album from Fleetwood Mac.
Don't cross Stevie Nicks.
“Range life” is a song by a band “pavement” to diss smashing pumpkins
Liar by Megadeth, although he doesn't state directly who he is talking about, its pretty clear that its about chris and gar if you know their history
"when" also a pretty big angry song
Not sure if it's in the same ballpark, but "Something That I'm Not" by Megadeth was a shot at Lars Ulrich after the way an intimate conversation between Lars and Dave was edited in the documentary "Some Kind of Monster."
I would like to add the song 6:00 by Dream Theater because it is basically a Dream Theater diss track made by their own keyboard player
Bruh lol
Nobody expected a diss track from Mr. Simmons himself. Even in Dream Theater standards, nobody expected a diss track from Dream Theater.
Lie too
'How Do You Sleep' by John Lennon (1971) takes a dig at at former Beatle bandmate Paul McCartney. '"Those freaks was right when they said you was dead", "So Sgt. Pepper took you by surprise" and "The only thing you done was yesterday / And since you've gone you're just another day" are some of the lyrics in the song referring to McCarntney.
I don’t blame limp bizkit for the riots at Woodstock 99, but they sure as sugar didn’t help
