Ya the stick is upside down and I would guess yes, thats how he plays.
Not a ton of drummers do it, but some do, so he probably is doing this intentionally, yes.

Shrimp Daddy they aren’t upside down. There are sticks made with no tip. The drummer from the acacia strain also plays with similar sticks
