Well it is only a research vehicle not commercial production. It is very strange that they could do that but still Nissan 20 30 years later went downwards. That is coward management and marketing people!
Check out the JDM versions of - UZZ31 Toyota Soarer, Mazda Cosmo, Nissan Leopard and Honda Legend. Most of these have these features and more in a production car.
Vintage Time Australia Oh man I totally forgot the Soarer existed! I'd take a Cosmo HB, 80s turbo rotary? Yes please! Don't forget the Mitsubishi Starion!
Almost 40 years later and collision avoidance is still an optional extra... Imagine how many other safety features could have been done decades earlier, and save countless lives, but it wasn't cheap enough.
If you care about your safety so much you can always pay the extra to get the safety features. Or maybe you mean that the car producers should give up the additional revenue and pay for your safety for you?

Japanese always were ahead in technology. That's why I admire everything that is made in Japan, I believe that the Japanese build the highest quality products, the most reliable and they are cheap. All my friends drive German cars, even my father but I drive a Japanese one and it never breaks down, I also pay only a few bucks for maintenance.
No, capacitive touch screens have been around since the early 1980s. Casio even had a touch screen watch in 1983. My Toyota soarer has a touch screen lcd control system and was made in 1991
Yeah, probably driven by IR sensors around the screen. I don't think they had resistive or capacitve touch screens at the time. I also remember as a kid using touch screens that had a micro button matrix in the glass, so that could be another way of making it work. My Soarer uses an IR matrix around the screen.
Wow.The car was so much ahead of it's time.

It's crazy how they were ahead of their time, i love to see these 80's and 90's new technologies for cars
This is the most 80s thing I've ever seen and I want one!!

its amazing how this car has automated collision assist
that feature is still only an add on option in many luxury cars 30 years later
I know right? Just comes down to cost. Just like the Ford Pinto.

Sounds like GTA SA to me :o
My car in 2021 has some of these features, but not all, which is amazing!
When japan looks to the west, they are looking 40 years in to the past.
it's still high tech in today
Yeah that's it. Shows how many compromises are made for mass production.
Not really, the infotainment systems we have today are of course more advance because they are newer.
@DejaVoodooDoll Only dumb people die because of distractions. GPS, warning sytems and all that are all useful things. So are phones.
Wow, This would have been cutting edge for 1983. Who would have thought it would take nearly 30 years for GPS to become standard
Yeah, the first production cars with GPS were the Mazda Cosmo (1990) and Toyota UZZ31 Soarer (Lexus SC400 in the US, 1991).
The Nissan Cima also had it as option in 1991.
Also amazing were Hondas and Nissans non GPS navigations systems in 1981!
And it still doesn't work!
#jdm forever in my heart
Auto sensing headlights and wipers, touch screen display and they still couldn't put electric windows in it.

I thought touch sensor was introduced early 2000.

A touch sensitive CRT monitor is so alien

Wait what, it has a touch sensitiv screen back then??

Too bad they couldn't make the outside of the car look like it wasn't from 1983.
To be fair, it was pretty up to date style wise, at the time.
Motores no contaminantes, se los debo! Para los fabricantes no importa contaminar!
The Knight Rider Car Had all that and More in 1983
