They‘ve changed many things in the japanese version like the design was changed because the original would not be selled well in Japan cause its looking “scary” and to make it look more child-frendlier. The TNT crates have now a design of a bomb to explain more what the crate does, for some reason it was not changed in the Boss Fight in Ripper Roo. Minor note: The most TAS‘ers and speedrunners play the NTSC/J version because in the japanese version if you miss boxes only 1 crate falls so you dont waste much time what i think is very useful for speedrunning & The High Road is much shorter.
Yeah i can see why they're using the japanese copy of Crash 1 for this TAS When you miss a lot of boxes, youre gonna have to sit through an unavoidable cutscene of crash getting hit by the boxes. Thats a lot of precious time wasted especially when you don't wanna waste time destroying boxes. The japanese ver oddly enough cuts the animation short to just one box despite crash missing 20+ boxes. This saves time a lot Also those lizard enemies tho.. phew! I assumed since crash gets a big knockback spinning em, the TAS inputter maybe found some bug / exploit that messes with crash's spinning collision hitbox with the lizard to make him ZOOM like that
