I strongly disagree with the opinions expressed in the video. The Apple store concept was established long before Angela came to Apple. Her vision was to turn Apple stores into a social hub like Starbucks. She wanted it to be a place where people just go to hang out and collaborate. She has made numerous public statements indicating they this was her goal for Apple stores. The “today at Apple” sessions was a strategy to compliment that, but the content is so asinine and superficial, such as a tutorial about how to access Notification Center. They even have sessions about iOS development, yet even as someone who is currently studying that very thing, I wouldn’t even consider attending. Her vision simply isn’t coming to fruition and I’m sure the retail store data show it. Seems clear to me that Apple recognizes that people just aren’t interesting in hanging out in their stores for the sake of it, and is going to change their retail strategy.
I don’t think she did a poor job. I just think she had an idea that wasn’t successful. At some point, you have to abandon unsuccessful ideas.

The timing of Ahrendts' departure shortly after the results of Apple's poor iPhone performance is not a coincidence. She may have seen the writing on the wall and decided this was a good time to make a face-saving exit. She could have believed this was as far as she could go at Apple. But you of all people Rene shouldn't so easily fall for the spending more time with family story, not especially when she was tipped as a potential successor to the top job.

Honestly, I think you nailed in in your comment about “time”. You can get paid in money, and have tons of it, but you’ll never get more time. There is way more to life than being a bazillionaire, so if someone wants to spend time with people that are all getting older then that seems like a smart move. You are also right that Twitter storms say more about society than anything the tweets are about!

The choice of Deirdre O'Brien to be the SVP of Retail & People looks to me as a stopgap until Tim can find someone to replace Ahrendts, or someone to replace O'Brien in HR. No way she can do both for any stretch of time.

Angela was disliked by the thousands of in-store Apple Creative Trainers and customers alike, because she disrupted and dismantled the very customer popular One-to-One training sessions. Training was now geared to just generic basis users, than to longtime users. Angela wanted the Creative Trainers be placed on the sales floor instead of training enduser customers on how to use Apple apps. Many Creatives left Apple for that reason. Angela ruined the way Trainers were teaching. A big sigh of joy went up last week, when Trainers hear she was leaving. GOOD RIDDANCE TO ANGELA.

Ive seen many coments across the internet saying she was pushed, or jumped before she was pushed, because of the recent poor iPhone sales. I look at it this way, why would Angela get the blame for poor iPhone sales? She would have no control over the design or pricing strategies involved or for that matter the marketing. Yes she would be in charge of the stores both fisical and online and how they implement and manage any such launch. But here again as busy as stores are especially around an iphone launch, Apple sells the vast majority of its iphones through third party’s wether that be through Carriers or retailers such as Best Buy ect. So even if sales have struggled in Stores it would account for no where near the drop off they have experienced. She has spent the last almost 15 years in very demanding roles at the top of two of the worlds biggest brands (and earned good money doing it) so maybe she has decided its time to put herself and family first.

This demonstrates the insanity of the media world. Ahrendts' stint with Apple was, if anything, a major success. There is no way she was fired. People just don't understand, that even world's top successful executives have private lives and may, at some point, choose to prioritize the needs of their kids/spouses over continued existence at the top of their industry, where they have already achieved acclaim and have nothing more to prove.

Angela Ahrendts will be missed. I have a lot of respect for her and her work at Apple. I am a big Apple fan and a marketer. Angela pioneered in the retail customer experience space. Have you noticed how other tech companies have put together some off brand Apple Store look alikes in the time since Angela has been at Apple? Microsoft Stores look like Apple Stores but with the wrong logo and products, and even Samsung have massively redesigned their retail presence. I remember when Samsung stores (the few that were around) looked like carrier stores, but only sold Samsung products - very generic and very corporate.

Getting rid of 1-1 was not good. Neither students nor Creatives likes it. Not in San Francisco nor in Beijing. In fact, many Creatives in Beijing quit and left.

Opinion is divided on the changes Ahrendts made to customer education. For many years, you could pay a $99 annual fee and schedule one-on-one training sessions with an Apple worker. Ahrendts replaced that with Today at Apple, free group sessions where customers can learn to drum on GarageBand, use an Apple Watch or enjoy a concert. The company says few people signed up for the previous service but that 18,000 Today at Apple sessions are held each week. Employees say customers complain that the classes proceed only as quickly as the slowest learner and recommend bringing back the one-on-one sessions.

An an ex- Apple employee, I was there for years before Angela started, and for 4 years while she was there.
I have no doubt that my entire store experience, as an employee changed, for the negative once Angela started.
This has nothing to do with sales or anything. She made the retention rate of staff drop SIGNIFICANTLY across the globe. We lost 50+ employees in 2 months, just in my store. She made so many changes to the way we would serve customers and the way that we had to function generally.
These changes made us feel in-human and made customer satisfaction drop.
I would need to go into immense detail to explain this all properly, but please trust me that she destroyed working in Apple retail for many employees. The years I worked there before Angela, were the best years of my life.

Siri/voice 1st/Siri 0S. I just saw that JG has recently announced a long view approach to Siri. What do you think that means? Do you think this means we won’t see any substantial changes to Siri for a very long time? Siri is kind of near and dear to my heart, but I am not a young person and I am wondering if we will see any major advances over the short term when I might still be here to see them. Also, do you think that there will have be off-line Siri in the short term? Could you address these in one of your videos, please? Thanks. Really enjoy your viewpoints.

The biggest issue with retail is the average or typical consumer (non Apple fanboy) doesn't know anything about what the Apple Store has to offer. Nobody has ever done a good job or promoting what it has to offer. Maybe that's on purpose, maybe they don't have the manpower to really take on more, but then what's the point of having it if you don't want anyone to take advantage of it? What the point of paying her twice as much as the CEO to create Today at Apple, if they then want to keep it a secret?

Rene Ritchie I just think she has made it more difficult. It used to be you had a problem with an Apple device. Apple wanted to make sure you left satisfied. Now not as much. Now they try and find a way out of it. They are still at the top tier of customer service. Just not the shining beacon they used to be. Now they want you to get Apple care to get back any kind of semblance of the customer service of old. It’s really off putting. Probably not all on her but I feel she has brought a lot of that into Apple.

Not saying I like standing in line, but it was a way to network for a lot of the community in a city and now it's gone. finally, bye bye
she took apple to the white collar people with her pricing, apple is like a fashion company now with super expensive leather goods like sleeves and Hermes 500$ watch bands, they forgot they are a tech company and the Mac is their soul, starting with the 17,000 dollar apple watches in 2015... , Jony and her got along just fine with their expensive overkill taste, 200$ MacBook sleeves, 450$ stainless steel apple watch bands... crazy
in all these time they abandoned the Mac,
iMac design is old with those ridicules bezels, the mac pro is a joke and the mac mini got attention after almost 5 years
and! the biggest one, the MacBook air, the lemon of apple, squeezing that old one for 10 years now with his TN 1366X768 display and his old hardware, when they finally update that thing they still sell it for the same 999$, a 10 years old machine!!! remember when Steve jobs KILLED the iPod mini for the new nano in his PRIME?? now, apple keep the old alive, and with same prices! Decency at its best!
and those palaces stores that cost us all with those price hikes, on top of that iPhone design stayed the same 4 years from 2014 till 2018 with those iPhone 6 antenna lines (remember that design embarrassment after the legendary iPhone 4 and 5 design? i wonder that Steve would have done to Tim for launching with those antenna lines)

Her wish to spend more time with her family across the pond is very reasonable. Even though trips are cheap for someone with her wealth they are tiresome and inconvenient. There could also be other reasons but we will have to wait to see what she tells us in a year or two.
I hope it has nothing to do with the way the stores are doing. Times are getting hard (in some parts of the world) and some bean counters may want to save money by reducing some of the free activities that don't generate a cash flow.

Rene....you really are the thinking person’s tech commentator!!
I may not always completely align with your take, but the argumentation of your opinion is beyond reproach. Can’t believe you have 85k subscribers; there should be a zero on the end of that number.
Oh well, I guess you need to buy an oversized knife and do some mindless unboxing videos to kick the subscriber base up.
    Thanks for your efforts.

Rene Ritchie Product breakdown, What products are generating how much cash.
Which ones are growing the fastest.
Market breakdown of India, why consumers have not been buying, and how much is the room to grow there.
Numbers crunched out, What justifies a Trillion dollar company. The future of Apple in health care. How much can be made there.
Where lies the end of Apple as a company, and the market as a whole.
Then if you are up for it, if you owned the whole Apple company, how much would you sell it for?

    • @isakhelgikarvelsson409
      @isakhelgikarvelsson409 5 років тому

      Also to put in perspective,
What would Apple have to do to make a 100 Billion dollars in net income a year.
How many thousand dollar Iphones is that.
How many millions of people paying a monthly service account to come near that.
Is there no possible way, or maybe not so difficult..
With a normal industry p/e ratio of 20
That would make it a two trilliondollar company. Twice its all time high

Rene, it's difficult watching your videos. They are fully and utterly impressive in analytical detail and quality, but I always feel like you are approaching them to legitimize most Apple decisions. The videos can often feel closer to propaganda or "explanation videos" and makes me wonder whether you should be a paid Apple employee, instead. I am a huge Apple fan but always worry that I'm being sold something - that shouldn't be the case with a brand that we love.
