- Today, we're taking a trip down memory lane and exploring the evolution of the stage select screen in the classic Mega Man games.
Mega Man is a beloved video game franchise that has been around for over 30 years. One of the most iconic features of the Mega Man games is the stage select screen, where players can choose which level they want to tackle next.
In this video, we'll take a closer look at how the stage select screen has evolved throughout the years. We'll start with the original Mega Man game on the NES, which had a simple and straightforward stage select screen. We'll then move on to Mega Man 2, which added a few new features to the stage select screen, such as the ability to see which boss you've defeated.
We'll then explore the later games in the series, such as Mega Man X and Mega Man Battle Network, which took a more modern approach to the stage select screen. We'll examine how these games added new features such as map screens, sub-bosses, and hidden stages.
Throughout the video, we'll provide insights and trivia about each game and how the stage select screen impacted the overall gameplay experience. We'll also showcase some of the most memorable stages and bosses from the Mega Man games.
So sit back, relax, and join us on this journey as we explore the evolution of the stage select screen in the classic Mega Man games. Don't forget to like and subscribe to our channel for more exciting videos like this.

Look its OilMan,TorchMan,WaveMan and BladeMan! Well... they look totally different from the original. Also SharkMan appears later in MegaMan Battle Network
@TheAnimationGuy technically bit man is hard man they look similar with diff colors
I’m not sure but I think bit man turned into bit from the mega man x series
Я чуть было не получил инфаркт от местного мега мена 💀
And hard man ._.
6:01 Dr. Light: The Reactor’s running usu- ...he went back to the stage select again...
Reactors running unusually well. Maybe go fight Wily.

A perfect successor of W-megaman
Mega man X8 is my favorite part of mega man. It’s a pity that the continuation did not work out
Docter wahwee
Mega Man 3 stage select, hands down best music imo
I disagree I say the best is mega man 5 for intro music
Those are great, I personally like megaman 4
Mega man 9 is best but yeah i agree as well those are also good

@@linkoftw2605 ong best music in the series

Could have done without the incessant moving of the cursor. Ffs.
AGREED! Holy fuck!
Agreed. Jesus...
finally.
someone who dont skip megaman and bass.
+1
The person skipped Mega Man DOS. Mega Man 3 DOS was there. He did not show Mega Man Zero either. Stage Select was present in 2, 3, and 4, but I do not know if it's important to show the first one.
Jarbloko Not sure why he went with the GBA version when the Super Famicom version had better audio.
The only reason anybody would skip Mega Man and Bass is because is it not part of the classic series
@Maddox_The_Teacher_35 I thought so too
Shhhh
We don't talk about Megaman & Bass
2:47 megaman7 yeah haha one pf best childhood game
I think my favorite part was moving around the screen constantly making that noise over the music. Awesome.
Mega Man 8 was such a huge graphical/aesthetic upgrade.
that stage select BMG was so good too.
@@ryanmahaffey5891 Backmusic Ground
So all the megaman games I've played were before I was even born.. and I thought it was amazing how the graphics had evolved.
How is X6 over 20 years old?!
Um... why exactly did you not use the normal stage select theme from X, X2 or X3?
On top of that, moving the cursor around on the NES themes mutes out part of the music
They did the X2 one, what are you talking about?
@@blackpants7385 That was the X-Hunter version, not the normal stage select version. The theme changes when all bosses are defeated
@@k1productions87 It wasn't. It really is the regular version. Look up a video on it to compare and you'll see the one used here isn't the X-Hunterd version. You even see in the video how all bosses are alive.
@@blackpants7385 care to time stamp it?

The best one of the bunch it hits so hard, x4 bops too

My favorite one was *SELECTION NOISES*
I think I like 3's stage select appearance the most. The simplicity of the 3x3 square is really easy to look at, and I think it's cute how Rock's eyes follow the cursor. Also, I find it a tiny bit funny that the megaman logo is placed below him where the robot master names are, and the "III" is obscured, making it look like "and this is megaman."
1:06
LOL in that game the robot masters look like other ones like that "WaveMan" who looks like AirMan or BitMan who looks like HardMan.
Their official art is literally just combined/edited versions of older robot masters.
Shark Man is Snake Man
Wave Man is Air Man
Blade Man is Metal Man
Bit Man is Hard Man's head put on Crash Man's body, with Spark Man's arms
the others seem mostly somewhat original
@@SleepyReapy32 oil man is flash man, and torch man is magnet man
When i was a kid and i played megaman for first time,i tought robot masters were playable ;-;
Lol, me too!(because my first level-flash man)
I mean, in super mario crossover 3 some robot masters are playable
RAX The Metal Monster witch game was is it? (By the way I’m a big big big mega man fan)
I think you can play as robot masters in megaman power up
Playable in Megaman powered up

Man, Rock looks like he's depressed and just had a Family
Ok, but there actually is a Blade man, Torch Man, Oil Man, and even a Wave Man that came out before that so....
I really enjoyed this video. I was looking for single videos showing the gameplay of each game but you went above and beyond showing versions o f mega man I never even knew was around.
My first Megaman was Megaman 3, I immediately fell in love with Megaman
why is Megaman Zero not included?
I believe that you're using the 50hz version of Wily Wars.
Lâm Quang An correct
Yup, very inauthentic!
The PAL Version?
@@squidyellotheinkling2474 The version released in European regions that make the game run slower than NTSC versions in North America and Japan, specifically around 16% slower than the proper game speed.
@@Nintega345 I knew that, so it's PAL, right?
Its crazy how obviously better Mega Man 8's is overall, yet its the most underrated.
Megaman 3 is honestly my favorite!
3:18 mi tema favorito xD

It's the best
It was fantastic how you kept moving the cursor on mm1 so we couldnt hear the actual music
My childhood sound is megaman 2
MegaMan 3 DOS the robots are revolting: The robots are revolting indeed, my friend
The Wily Wars music was too slow. Also, where's the first DOS Mega Man game?

Megaman 8 is the best, so clean
Megaman zero?
NO
My favorite game is megaman soccer, I need megaman soccer 2 or Megaman x9
Wait a minute, somebody skip Megaman Zero saga and ZX saga.
Could you spend more then 5 seconds on some screens so we could actually hear the music or in cases like the x games read the info presented for each stage?
I loved those sinisters Robot masters and Mavericks from megaman series On Act 5th New kid's Story Part 4 The Risen of the Hero
Somehow I feel like this video was mandatory to be made
Appreciate the collection....however you have the end of game / Sigma music highlighted for MMX1 and MMX3 instead of the standard stage select music. Opportunity to highlight both per game IMO. EDIT - got it right for the iOS version at 5:32 - MMX2 stage select was correct though.
Personal opinion - Mega Man X4's stage select music was fucking ON POINT! MMX6's standard stage select felt more suited to end of game status IMO with the heavy organs but....with the whole nightmare stage thing.....still solid. MMX5's Zero stage is INGRAINED in my memory.
1:06 Nice music
Some of those X games, you used the inferior Sigma stage select themes. The regular stage select sounds so much better!
I like how 3/4 of all the screens in the thumbnail are all Mega Man 1
Your missing Mega Man for DOS. You have Mega Man 3 for DOS but not the first game. Very nice though.
Anyone else saw that knockoff-looking Oil Man from Mega Man 3 DOS: The Robots are Revolting?
When Capcom will make X9?
I do not know why the stage name is not shown in Mega Man X3. There is a way to make the stage name show in the first Mega Man X game, but you have to select one of the corner panels on the Stage Select screen.
The X3 is one of my favorites (normal one)
WHY ARE YOU NPVING THE SELECTOR AAAAAHAHHHAHAHHHGH
Where's mega man and bass 2 for the wonderswan
It's called challenger from the future
Mega man 8 ❤❤❤❤💖💖💖💖
If only I can make my own games that are Mega Man like.
Nice try but the noise of the cursor on every music is irritating.
Can you not move the cursor around so much please thanks
Why?

You need to put Challenger from the future too.
The Genesis mini has Mega Man: The Wily Wars and it's at 60 fps. Maybe revamp this video at some point.

So wood man, Hard man and Plug man walk onto a movie set....
Wheres mighty no 9? It was developed by kenji inafune, creator of megaman.
It's not Megaman tho
But its a spiritual successor, so it counts.
It has nothing to do with Megaman. It's not even a spinoff.
mega man powered up was cute.

The guardian of the water
Mega Man 7's stage select was so annoying. Just the simple act of removing the robot master names from their profile shots made me select the wrong stage 5 times during my first playthrough, and since I couldn't exit the stages, that meant I had to go through and fight the boss with the base weapon. Mega Man games are at their best when you can form a strategy around boss weaknesses, trying to guess which one is "shade man" based on their looks is like flipping a coin.

Megaman III Is the best
