Its incredible to see how Spain have developed in sports, first they won the FIBA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN 2006, WON THE SILVER MEDAL IN 2008 OLYMPICS AND NOW THEY WIN THE WORLD CUP IN SOUTHAFRICA SOCCER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP...THEY ARE GREAT!!! LOVE SPAIN..
i agree with you that NBA and USA are #1. nobody will argue with that. but you cant deny that rubio and other european stars are improving alot. rubio is a star in the nba right now, (your prediction failed) as he is ripping nba defenses apart and creating open shots for his timberwolves teammates. he is a team player, not a primadonna like other nba stars who only care about "statistics" and not about helping their team win
He tries to be a bit too fancy at times, but the way he sees the court at such a young age is unbelievable. And if you saw him in the Olympics against team USA, he held his own against the likes of Chris Paul, Deron Williams, and Jason Kidd. To be on the biggest stage agaisnt the best point guards in the world, and almost come up with the victory is truly remarkable. Ricky Rubio makes his teammates better, gets them easier shots and is a really good and annoying defender.
usa is the best in the world. nobody will argue with that. but that doesnt change the fact that at 22 rubio is probably one of the best young players in the world. and he is playing very good in the nba, helping his team mates score
I think Ricky will enjoy playing in Minnesota more than here - guys like Al Jefferson and Wayne Ellington aren't gonna mess up his highlights - they can put the ball in the hole.
it's funny reading these comments how so many of you guys said ricky wouldnt "make it" in the "rough and tough" NBA. ohhh. the "NBA" is not for europeans, blah blah blah. But in his first year in the NBA Ricky was a big success. if it werent for his injury, he would have had a great year. he's among nba best in steals and assists, and yes, he's ripped a few nba teams to shreds with his smart, intelligent passes. and the incredible thing is he's only 22 years old. so dont be too quick to judge!
ALRIGHT a NEW highlight on RICKY, Yeah, I'll be checking this out for awhile. I play street ball every evening, rain, sunshine, hard fouls on concrete, clothes lines, against Negros, Mexicans, Native Americans, Spanish, Whites, Oilfield and Powerplant workers. We all get along on the concrete court. Sometimes there are over 50 players waiting for NEXT. Yeah, on Sundays. Brookside Park. Sometimes it is Bloody.
This young man can play. Outside of a young Jason Kidd, I've NEVER seen anyone rip people off the dribble like Ricky Rubio has. AND he's getting a shot? And he's growing facial hair? Uh-0H.
sacramento is ignant for not taking this guy in the draft and not just because he is a great player but also because there is a huge latin community in the california area and the golden boy out of spain would've sold a lot of tickets. too bad they're now stuck with steve francis light
@eKriZZLe The Lakers and Clippers both played Barcelona last year, and neither team beat Barcelona by more than five. Although, I doubt the Lakers or Clippers played their starters the entire game, it shows to me that the NATIONAL TEAM could compete with and beat any team in the NBA. I won't judge Rubio until he competes with some NBA stars.
@eKriZZLe Absolutely correct. Rubio would have gotten destroyed by the athleticism of NBA guards. He might have made it a few games, but he wouldn't have been able to hang for a whole season.
No, the "playmaker" of the Timberwolves is Kevin Love. Rubio is a decent point guard...not a "star" by any sense of the word yet. Maybe that's what they say in Spain, but not in America.
Check Ricky Rubio mix (6:33) and exlain-me "who and when"have assisted better than Ricky in NBA and with his age?. Why the Barcelona paid 3,5 million Euros to get his rights yesterday? Is the biggest amount of money paid for a european basketball player in the history. Prepare dollars if you want to see him in NBA in two or tree years.
actually these days with the pathetic rules the nba is less physical than european ball, and the usa has only won one of the last 4 world tournaments 02/04/06/08. so yeah, wrong on both counts.
@mariofan38 where was Rubio when Spain was getting raped by the USA by 37? and how is Spain being the 3rd best team a valid argument for Rubio being an NBA star? fact of the matter is...it's really USA #1 then everybody else. in Europe, he's #1. in the US, he wouldn't even be ranked. if the Spanish national team played an NBA team, that could be a competitive game. but that's it.
yeah the Spanish wish it was FIFA. they'd actually be good at it! seriously....if the FIBA wanted to even beat the worst NBA team, they would need to put together every single star of their league onto an all-star team. then they would have a chance. Rubio is a bust. he won't be an NBA starter..and if he is it won't be for long
@mariofan38 I understand your enthusiasm, and Spain is good by European standards, but getting beat in an off season game by the CLIPPERS? hahaha Come on, man. Here's a better analysis of the medal game with spain and the USA and *why* they only lost by 11 instead of 37 like the previous game. watch?v=u_znTKoTkHQ

Awesome man, I read his Twitter update and thought I'd find it on here. Nice man.

That behind the back pass was amazing!

ricky is a really smart player, people dont give him credit for that
they werent required to play in the most recent world championships because they won gold in the olympics. They will be playing in FIBA 2010.

wrong. he is playing in the nba. and he is a star already. he is the playmaker of the timberwolves
es una pena ke no pueda irse este año a la NBA..........
is the USA even a part of the world championships? Because if they are then they surely aren't televised or not even on the news.
Is #13 of Great Britain Tyronn Lue?
who's the guy wearing the Rubio jersey?

wrong on what counts? i just said we gets nasty, which is subjective yet undeniably true.
No, because we gets real dirty in the NBA. Come on man, IT'S THE FUCKING NBA; Euro ball doesn't have shit on us!
@mrbishboshful I understand I jus never saw them play on the world stage b4 and I watch international tournaments occasionally.
@eKriZZLe Absolutely correct. Rubio would have gotten destroyed by the athleticism of NBA guards. He might have made it a few games, but he wouldn't have been able to hang for a whole season.
Anyone else really surprised Great Britain has a basketball team? lol
The USA never play against any other countries.. the only time they play against other countries is months before the olympics start.
No, the "playmaker" of the Timberwolves is Kevin Love. Rubio is a decent point guard...not a "star" by any sense of the word yet. Maybe that's what they say in Spain, but not in America.
mj, crayoned in white

Spain is the 3rd best team by FIBA rankings.
You argument is invalid.
Not, Spain is the first.
hahaha.. he'll use it when he need it...

Ricky debe mirar mas a canasta, Ricky must make more points. Ahi el tonto de Iturriaga tiene razón. Iturriaga has reason
