      The static with the landing light on sounds like the radio. The extra current draw is opening the radio squelch. You could fix it by closing the squelch up a bit...

    Took my girlfriend, now my wife of 42 years, on our first date to see my 140. Nice cozy seating to snuggle in. Better for dates than a car. Go more places for day trips. Lots of trips to Sierra foothills for picnics.

    I learned to fly a long time ago, mostly in an Aeronca Champ 7AC. Then flew a Cessna 140 until I had almost 200 hours. What an upgrade from the Champ! I flew all over the state of Missouri (where I then lived). I do remember that on hot, humid summer days with two large people, it climbed VERY slowly at a shallow angle, and you had to plan your takeoff and initial climb accordingly.

    gotta love those cool, calm, mornings when the air is smooth as glass. makes for some great landings. I use to make wheel landings on our grass strip at Nacogdoches, TX (1965) and when the grass hadn't been cut in 10 days or so and was a little high, I could start the wheels rolling before touch down. Loved to fly the 140. Flew fire patrol for the Tx Forestry Service out of there for a few months. Enjoyed every minute of the 140. The one I flew had C170 wings on it which gave me 8 hrs of range. That thing would float forever on landing. We had 3 140s but the one I flew was the only one with the 170 wings.

    Learned to fly in a Cessna 140, I love this airplane 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. My first takeoff was over correcting with the rudder pedals and I froze on the yoke 😳, the pilot, my cousin Bootsy had told me of an incident of someone having the freeze happen to and then it all made sense 🤨.

    I did about 5 hours of training in my cfi 140. I do find the c140 is a bit harder to control on the ground than my Decathlon. My CFI and I feel it is because the Decathlon is a bit longer. Overall though the 140 is a great fun little plane to fly around.

    My dad was a pilot and instructor most of his adult life and was a bush pilot in Alaska from the mid 70s up until his retirement, he passed a couple of years ago at 82. He was kind of a cheap guy and only bought the most affordable type of planes. He had many Taylor Craft, Cassena 120s, 140s, Luscombe and the like over the years. He flew Beavers and 206s on floats as a commercial bush pilot for different Air taxi places out of Anchorage for a lot of years and lived off grid in a cabin on a river only accessible by boat or airplane during the summer and snow mobile during the winter way before off grid living was a thing lol.

    Looks like a 1946 or early 1947. It came with a Continental 85hp. Some have the STC that change engine crank and piston from O-200 . HP increases from 85 to 95. O-200 is a 100 hp engine which the Cessna 150 has.

    Great plane however I'd upgrade the engine first chance I got. That was one thing abou this plane was under powered for the day it was standard and it's what they had. Still classic lines and super simple controls.

    What's the useful load on this plane with the 0-200? Or atleast what was the approximate load being carried on this flight with 2 grown men? Also curious about the altitude of take off. I'm considering a 140 as my first plane but everyone tells me 2 grown men on board is almost impossible...

    • @SirDrifto
      @SirDrifto  3 роки тому +4

      That I'm not sure about as far as useful total. I weigh 160lbs. Dallas I bet is 250. So 2 full sized adults. And it's performance was quite surprising. Though even he said on a hot day she isn't the best.

      @@jimecee We fly one at low DA with two 200lb guys in it all the time and full fuel. Any high DA stuff you want to think twice about flying at full gross, particularly in any sort of mountain environment where downdrafts are common. You can easily get into a downdraft that overwhelms the climb performance at the higher DA. Mine has 100hp and a climb prop and we don't take it anywhere high unless the runway is long and there is lower terrain near it. One up and light, you can find guys landing and taking off at 9,000ft airports. One guy has an altitude video to 17,500.
