Nobel Laureates join Swedish royal family for glitzy banquet

Nobel prize laureates and Swedish royalty were among around one thousand guests in attendance at the traditional Nobel banquet at Stockholm City Hall on Sunday (December 10) following a royal award ceremony at the Concert Hall.
As tradition mandates, the winners in literature, medicine, chemistry, physics and economic sciences were celebrated in the Blue Room where toasts were made to King Carl Gustaf and in honour of Swedish businessman and dynamite inventor who founded the awards, Alfred Nobel.
The banquet is a highlight of the social calendar and sees royals, scientists and the Swedish political and business elite meet and mingle with diplomats and political leaders from around the globe.
The dinner is followed by a dance in the Golden Hall.
While the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded in Oslo, the other Nobel prizes are handed out in Stockholm on the same day - December 10, the date Alfred Nobel died.
