Watching this in the sad knowledge that the irreplaceable Hilda will leave at end of the following year. So many of the all time greatest characters have already gone (Stan, Elsie, Ena, Eddie..) . Can't imagine it without Hilda. At least there are years still to come with Bet and Rita.
If you want to understand anything, you could have a go at how the writers expect us to believe brain of Britain Barlow had a Eureka moment courtesy of a childs suggestion of drawing a name out a box re the competition fiasco. And furthermore expecting the viewers to wear it as a realistic solution 😂
Gail does my head in, how dare she be all high and mighty when she cheated on her husband. She seems to have forgotten this. What a lovely person she is when she is using her child as a weapon against her husband. The Chinless wonder really is a right arse ;-)
Hilda really came into her own in 1986 , acting mediator between Kevin & Terry earlier in the year and for sticking up for Kevin & Sally here. Plus ,she helped re open the Rovers .
not only accents but eventually a major change in Peter's hair colour, then Simon's. No disrespect, but any person with common sense has to wonder. Fun with DNA and everyone is happy :)
Awww sally and Kevin looked lovely on their wedding 💒 day, I remember this episode (I’m in my late 50s now) but I love ❤️ watching the old ones as I’ve got many fond memories
2:08:20 Derek says he dislikes golf and can't play despite taking lessons. Yet just two years earlier In August 1984 (before the wedding that never was) he was entertaining Mavis at his house and said he played golf a lot and had a handicap of 22 which he said "wasn't bad"
@BernadetteSwemmer-jz7yl I think maybe you meant to reply to the original post, rather than my reply. In any case, if you can't say anything nice, it's best to say nothing at all.
@@BernadetteSwemmer-jz7ylit's poor when loyal fans are treated badly by scriptwriters who can't be bothered tomcheck the history of the characters they are writing for.
I always remembered Ivy being the poisoness cow, but watching again, it is Gail who I cant stand. She is just a nasty character. Ivy at least had a good heart.
Ivy to me seems ok. Gail, Vera and Susan are all awful though. Ivy at times went a bit OTT over her religious beliefs but she always stood by her son when he was treated unfairly by Gail or anyone else.
Hilda told Sally that Stan never laid a hand on her, but in the early days he used to be violent towards her and their youngest children, who ended up being taken into care. Very different from later Stan, thankfully.
@@nicolemclean9028 That is so unrealistic, even if the kids were never returned, no one would behave as though they'd never existed. I didn't know Stan's character had been violent in the past until I read about these other children.
Just trying to imagine how the scene with Eddie and Elsie ( Sally’s parents) would’ve gone if Stan had still been there- especially more like he was in the 60s.
Betty Turpin thanks God for her Gordon does she over Hildas Trevor..Same Gordon who was so embarrassed about his mother he got wed in secret..always lording it over Hilda was Betty Turnip

I grew up of all of these lovely and not so lovely characters. Now thinking about the length of kevs trousers. Surely our Vera could have hemmed them up across the road. But no.
Jesus! That crate-egg Sally. She gets the idea of a partnership with Brian. Now, Kevin can't walk in the door, without being asked for a progress report. Meanwhile, they don't have a pot a to piss in, and Brian has already told Kevin, he'll need 5 grand, to buy in.
Stan did hit Hilda and she was scared of him in the 60s. She’s erased all that now, the evolution of their relationship as she got progressively stronger and he weaker was so well written across the years
out of curiosity, because i only just started watching this series and started with the 1980 ish episodes and not trying to be ignorant but is Mavis a virgin..like is she sleeping with that derek or what..ive not seen too many characters like hers and just honestly curious
Why is she wearing a peach colored outfit for her wedding??! Looks like something Emily or Rita would wear! 😂 And why doesn’t she ever take the jacket off? It would look better off!
OMG!!!!!😮😮😮...Susan is soooo irritating and relentlessly pushy! Also such a wooden actress...how could the writers make the brilliant Johnny Briggs suffer being alongside such a useless actress!🤦♀️
Would it have been Terry or Kevin who began referring to Hilda as Mrs. O? Nobody else did, bit disrespectful really. The Webster’s wedding scenes, while heartwarming, are rather cheesy and a lot of the dialogue seems padded out.
Gail looked ridiculous losing her cool in such an undignified way there at the end. I'm glad that scene happened though because she deserved to witness that after what she did when Brian was away! His actions in the Rovers were mild by comparison. Brian is not perfect but Gail is just pathetic!!

Hilda the best ever actress in The Street. It’s hard to believe she was never actually married off screen.
Wow really? Really hard to believe she never married. She is such a gem
Perhaps all the men watching thought Hilda was not acting!
Last of summer wine hilda plays antique store 😊

I could never understand why Brian Tilsley was considered a sort of heart-throb of The Street, I could not abide him. Arrogant man.
Me neither, always thought he was a horrible person.
Nice hair, but does he ever open his mouth all the way. He talks through his teeth.

Gail is absolute poison..
Thank you so much
For these fantastic parts of our history. So much appreciated. 😄

What a brilliant actress Hilda

The Derek/Mavis dinner scene was pure gold!
Comedy gold
Nervous Mavis.
😢😮😂
Them Barlow played. great part.
Bet looks like she is wearing scambled eggs on her head 😂😂 😂😂😂😂
Thinking after seeing Susan here, were did the Barlow twins both go to get rid of their Glasgow accents?!

How can Simon Barlow be halfcast when both parents are white. No one has ever mentioned this.
Mavis and Derek, have there every been two more dithery, neurotic characters in soaps!

In the 80’smy mother wrote a check for everything. She used them like I use my debit card today. Never ever use cash(although I probably should)
That was the done thing to write cheques for most things accompanied by a check card. There were no debit cards then.
