I love hearing the bids chirp in the background. We have a spoiled hen too, she always runs to my husband to be picked up. Thanks for the chicken tractor video, this is on our list.
Gosh I love the dorking style chook. Fluffy pants and fluffy butt, just beautiful and round. You guys are so interesting. I had a good giggle when Jeremy thought about lobbing a stick at the rude rooster. 🤣
So...I was amused at your husband arguing with the birds. How does he feel about his life being at the point that he can mutter, unironically, "spoiled chicken" as part of his normal conversation and not mean supper gone bad? lol
What fun. First chicks! I incubated hundreds of duck and goose eggs. Sometimes I let a goose sit on a clutch of eggs. But they don't see all that well and can accidently step on their goslings. But the whole tribe of adult geese will protect and raise those babies!
For me, there is something so comforting about these sights and sounds - broody mama and chicks - all is right with the world when I listen and watch. Thank you for sharing this with us. (P.S: Jeremy and his feathery daughter, following at his heels every step, there, are priceless! lol! You made my day! So glad I subscribed in time for this video's notification.) (: (:
Yay! Am so glad you are raising your own birds! I did this for years and it was wonderful though we took a lot of grief from “experts” from the feed store. We managed hens closely and had great success. Then we traded out roosters of new lines to keep the traits we liked. Now my adult children can do the same thing. Lovely. 🐥🐥🐥🐥!
Love everything about your videos but especially liked the pet chicken and you saying NO to your hubby wanting to throw something at your rooster. In addition I look forward to the reaction you all have toward different situations.
Marking the eggs is the way to go, but I like to draw a line around the egg so that I can easily tell which ones belong in the nest without having to inspect each egg.
A setting hen will screech like that to bring attention to herself to pretend she's running from danger. It's her way to protect her eggs/brood. A mother's love .
Lol I've been eating Toblerone chocolate for 43 years. Introduced to it in Germany as a military brat lol love your videos and how they bring back happy memories from my childhood Deb
8 out of 8!! Congrats! Just remember, if any of them grow up to be roosters, don't tell them they used to be chicks. It'll take the wind right out of their cock-a-doodle-doo.
I built a brooder box with in the coop. I believe it’s a better option. Advantage is A- no other hen can use her nesting box. B-the hen and her chick are safe from other birds. C- the hen is familiar with the nesting box. D-once the chicks hatch, it could act as a brooder and be acclimated to the existing flock.
Cute little things. Good thing you kept that broody chicken, she is so useful! I love seeing chicks hatched by hens. Now you have more chickens added to the flock, awesome!
Love it when things work as nature intended! Hope the snow is gone for you "southerners" - Just saw on the weather channel- we may be getting more snow in a week... Yay Spring!
Congratulations! Excellent build! I'm so grateful for your videos. I know when we finally get started, and things start happening, I can come back to your channel and know right what to do. You guys really are awesome. Thanks for sharing this occasion.
When i was a kid my folks sold eggs. A few hundred layers. All free range. A few roosters mixed in. I would find the clucks (broody hens) and set them on eggs someplace with a bushel basket over them for one day. When i removed the basket they always adopted that nest as their own. Three weeks later she was running around the yard with her chicks.
Aww, how sweet! We had a blue cochin, named Flora, that was a retired show bird that was given to me. She thought she was a house chicken. One Easter she climbed into a basket I had filled with ceramic eggs. After that we gave her eggs to sit for us but one day we couldn't find any of our chicks. When we checked Flora, she had 22 chicks under her wings! She was the best chicken!
We have hatched babies several times. We have an old dog kennel that we put wire around the bottom and built a house to put inside. It has worked wonderful. It never gets old seeing those new babies pop their little heads out..😍😍
I love how you guys explain everything from start to finish. Like how you even included the chicks hatching in this video. Absolutely love your channel edit: hahaha apparently I didn't read the video title, only the thumbnail lol
awww, those babies are so cute! You should make a video about them every week, to show their progress! Or just one video with clips from all the weeks.
Hi again! Progress and new life on the homestead Yay! Your chickens really have it made. Treats wing rubs and lots of personal attention! You had a perfect hatch congrats! All the hard work does pay off. Can hardly wait to see all your upcoming projects. Thx for sharing!
Aww, cute little chickies! I loved the roo keeping an eye on how the brooder was coming together. He looked like an inspector - making sure those angles were "cute" enough. :-P
We've never separated our momma's and babies. I've never had a problem with other chicken's messing with the babies. Chicken momma's are pretty fierce I've even had them attack me when I picked up a chick.
Yeehaw! That was fun! Loved it! Lol..."spoiled chicken, how'd you get so spoiled?" As he rubs the under side of her wings and...puts that spoilin' lovin all over her! Congrats on those cutie pies! Great to see you guys! Smiles and blessings...
Wouldn't you know it, just when you need her to be warm & cosy, it snows! Congratulations on your first off-grid new borns - you have the 'Nosiest' Chickens in Christendom 😄 or should that be 'Beakiest'?
Thank you for sharing. Congratulations. You work so hard to keep up your land and home. I’m inspired by you. I think cleaning out my desk and my bedroom looks easy now! 🙏🏻❤️
I put a mark all the way around the eggs when I noticed the hen sitting on them. This way, I can see at a quick glance if there are any new eggs. So far, no. And I'm excited that I have 2 broody hens sitting in side by side boxes. Each on 8 eggs.
We put a dog cage in the middle of the coop that she could get in and out and the flock can see the chicks but the chicks can't get out. Once they are starting to feather out, we let them come out with the flock. No issues, yet! Lol! Have fun with the chicks, I love having the babies!~~Leslie
Congrats on your new chicks! 🐣🐥🐤 Prior to raising chickens and turkeys I never thought poultry could bring so much joy but they really do. Nice brooder tractor. 👍
Aw! How fun! We had a broody Rhode Island Red (she has just started laying too!), but didn't want to deal with the hassle yet, so we kept taking her eggs until she gave up. Now that it's getting towards spring, the next broody girl can hatch out. Cracked me up how the chickens are with y'all!
Does a broody hen quit laying her own eggs at some point, deciding "Okay, that's enough to set on." Do you think these hatchlings are all hers, or might another hen have sneaked one in before you marked them? Will you keep a record of clutch sizes for each broody hen, either for future planning, or curiosity? Nice to see your flock increase.
They stop laying when they go broody. None of the chicks are hers. Chickens don’t care whose eggs they are they just want to sit in them. They’ll even hatch out duck and quail eggs. We do keep track of them because we sell them at 8 weeks.
I had the same problem with broody hens. I had to build a 2'x2'x8' isolation cage at then end of my chicken coup so the broody hens were left alone to sit on a specific number of eggs. The cage is about 5' off the floor above my nesting boxes. All the chickens are under the same roof and protected from the weather. About two weeks after the eggs hatch, I let the hen and her chicks join the adult birds. The hen is very protective of her chicks and the adult birds have not been a problem. I don't think I've ever had a 100% hatch. It's great when you have broody hens. I've used incubators, but always worry about power outages, and maintaining the temperature and humidity.
For MORE chicken videos, check out our playlist: goo.gl/wreqkC More info in the description. Thanks for watching!
ععععفع
Probably throw the eggs away. Lol. Incubation is 21 days. If they don’t hatch they’re probably not fertilized.
Loved that "Mom" voice.... NO!!!!! lol and just like a kid doing what that voice said, smile and drop the stick.... awesome....
Congrats! On the new babies. Call them " eight is enough"❤😜
Jeremy's nic-names for the hen. LOL this was great.
I love hearing the bids chirp in the background. We have a spoiled hen too, she always runs to my husband to be picked up. Thanks for the chicken tractor video, this is on our list.
Blueberry : "DUDE!"
Other Hen: "WAT?!"
Blueberry: "GET YOUR OWN BOX!!"
lols
I love your videos. Your daughter was so adorable with her sweet little voice expressing excitement over the baby chicks.
I've raised two generations of incubator chicks and I'm excited to say that today my first hen raised eggs started to hatch.
How's the chicks? I see your post 1 month old! I got broodie hens that are sitting one on 3 eggs and the other on 4...
"So we have a broody hen." Broody hen: "WHAT DID YOU JUST CALL ME????"
Gosh I love the dorking style chook. Fluffy pants and fluffy butt, just beautiful and round. You guys are so interesting. I had a good giggle when Jeremy thought about lobbing a stick at the rude rooster. 🤣
Congratulation baby chickens! So sweet, blessing from the UK
awe im so happy your happy in on your new off grid home , much love and loads of hugs for you all xx
So...I was amused at your husband arguing with the birds. How does he feel about his life being at the point that he can mutter, unironically, "spoiled chicken" as part of his normal conversation and not mean supper gone bad? lol
Great video. The babies🐣💚. My favorite part was Jeremy picking up stick to throw at the roo crowing and you said NO! That made my day😁. So funny😂
What fun. First chicks! I incubated hundreds of duck and goose eggs. Sometimes I let a goose sit on a clutch of eggs. But they don't see all that well and can accidently step on their goslings. But the whole tribe of adult geese will protect and raise those babies!
Congrats on the new chicks! Great job on the new broody house, this should keep them safe.
Who knew that chickens were such characters! Please keep us posted.
For me, there is something so comforting about these sights and sounds - broody mama and chicks - all is right with the world when I listen and watch. Thank you for sharing this with us. I'm watching this because I love chickens

Nice Chicken Toblerone. What a sweet momma hen! Also, I don’t think Ilaria is the only one who loves Tammy the Chicken. Just sayin. 😊
Love everything about your videos but especially liked the pet chicken and you saying NO to your hubby wanting to throw something at your rooster. In addition I look forward to the reaction you all have toward different situations.
Marking the eggs is so clever! I might not have thought of that on my own when I get my own flock together! Thank you for the tip! So clever ^_^
Marking the eggs is the way to go, but I like to draw a line around the egg so that I can easily tell which ones belong in the nest without having to inspect each egg.
I love the loud opening to this video with the broody mom🐣
A setting hen will screech like that to bring attention to herself to pretend she's running from danger. It's her way to protect her eggs/brood. A mother's love .
Thanks, very cute babies. The piggies too!
😂😂😂😂 *picks up the stick* NOO
Nice video. Congratulations on the recent additions to the homestead. Will be fun to watch them grow.
Lol I've been eating Toblerone chocolate for 43 years. Introduced to it in Germany as a military brat lol love your videos and how they bring back happy memories from my childhood
Deb
She (Broody Hen) has an epic entrance! Love it!
Me too
8 out of 8!! Congrats! Just remember, if any of them grow up to be roosters, don't tell them they used to be chicks. It'll take the wind right out of their cock-a-doodle-doo.
Now that's sustainability at its finest!
Ohhhh how wonderful!!! Congrats on the new addition
So happy the chicken family is growing again 😍
looking forward to the chicks getting their names. this is such a lovely video, please continue with this type of content, thank you
House chickens are def the best!
Temmie doesn’t have any cool outfits yet though like Penny. 😜

I just play this video on high volume and all the girls that are getting broody will carry on ! Tyvm

Love it when things work as nature intended! Hope the snow is gone for you "southerners" - Just saw on the weather channel- we may be getting more snow in a week... Yay Spring!
Ugh this weather!
The little brooder house and run is pretty awesome. Jeremy has building skills that I wish I had. :)
Good stuff!! Fluff butt!
Aww! Baby chicks are adorable.
Hatching chicks is one of the great joys of homesteading. There is no way not to love it.
Congratulations! Excellent build! I'm so grateful for your videos. I know when we finally get started, and things start happening, I can come back to your channel and know right what to do. You guys really are awesome. Thanks for sharing this occasion.
Aww thanks! ❤️
Great video. Loved the music. Nice mix of information and comedy. Very much enjoyed it.
So happy for you! I saw the piggies are doing well in the background, really epic stuff!
I just found this video. Love it. Fluffy is gorgeous. Y’all are so blessed. Look forward to seeing more.

That would be an awesome video. Would love to see how that works

Aww! She must have been a big fluff butt to fit 22!
She was big but in all fairness, some were bantys and silkies!
that is so exciting to get new chicks especially when its your hen that hatches them.
Congrats on your chicks! Nothing sweeter than baby chicks. ♥
We have hatched babies several times. We have an old dog kennel that we put wire around the bottom and built a house to put inside. It has worked wonderful. It never gets old seeing those new babies pop their little heads out..😍😍
ahaha ''Hey Butterball''. Tammy is so docile, she clearly loves the attention. Cutie.
Awe they are so sweet, what a great broody hen. Thanks for all the great videos! oh and instagram pictures.

Our Hannah Dog loves baby chicks. She was chewing her chewy and tried to give it to the baby chicks. Lol
So good to see you guys. Hope all is well!! Blueberry is adorable. Aww the little meepers. Such a good momma she is.
So sweet! Congratulations!
awww, those babies are so cute! You should make a video about them every week, to show their progress! Or just one video with clips from all the weeks.
Good idea!
Love watching and learning from both of you. Husband and I are trying to watch all you have done. Ty both . God Bless.
Perfect timing on the broody hen’s entrance
Thank you for not abusing chickens
Congratulations on the new babies! Aw!!! I wish Jeremy would come and cobble together a hen house for me!
Thanks for posting this guys, I think Cochins are the most broody chickens that I've found. Thanks, Carl and Dawn

Awe! What a wonderful event. I am very happy for you two :-)

I’m watching this because our first broody hens, FOUR OF THEM, are currently laying on eggs, and this was helpful.
It's that time of year. Get ready to have a butt load of chickens 😂
Thank you for sharing. Congratulations. You work so hard to keep up your land and home. I’m inspired by you. I think cleaning out my desk and my bedroom looks easy now! 🙏🏻❤️

I just love how the chickens come when you call them. Looks like y’all are having fun.
Yeah it’s pretty cool. 😊
Awesome, I am looking forward to our Izzy hatching out some chicks
And that's how you grow your herd! Great video.
Fresh eggs and eventually, a bird on the dinner table. Off Grid Food Production Line. Love it.
We put a dog cage in the middle of the coop that she could get in and out and the flock can see the chicks but the chicks can't get out. Once they are starting to feather out, we let them come out with the flock. No issues, yet! Lol! Have fun with the chicks, I love having the babies!~~Leslie
