Leiden is proud of Rembrandt and we want to know that too. That is why on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 July 2023, the entire Pieterswijk and Academy district was transformed into the most authentic seventeenth-century atmospheres possible, complete with several hundred actors and extras, historical materials and other props from that time. In short, a Great Historical Theater is being performed. You are cordially invited.
Already on the way there, visitors were brought into the right atmosphere. At the site of Rembrandt's birthplace, the route through his old district, across the Rapenburg, visitors already encountered surprising events before ending up in the Pieterswijk.
For this event, more than four hundred people have been prepared to organize themselves into groups that sew clothes, build decors, materials and props, and actors and extras who write, direct and rehearse theater and plays. They are all volunteers, Leiden volunteers that is, because from now on they will pay their famous fellow townsman an annual greeting with the Leiden Rembrandt Days full of passion.
FOR THE VISITOR
Visitors are always welcome in beautiful Leiden, especially during the Leiden Rembrandt Days. On 8 and 9 July, the Pieters- en Academiewijk, the oldest neighborhood in Leiden, will be brought back to the 17th century. More than four hundred people are now working to show this as authentically as possible to visitors. Make a note of the dates, because it is already clear that it will be a special event again.
