I really do get in to these classics. my meaningless opinion, they're different than now days (obviously), but, they keep me interested as movies now do. Classics let me enjoy more of what now mvs don't have.. CLASS!
Your "Opinion" is no where being meaningless !!✔️👍 Alot of times if I don't remember the movie I go to the comments if there is no description of it and read them to get an idea of the content of the movie 👏 So everyone keep them coming ! Thank's all. Good movie about young reruits becoming Men "POLICEMEN" that is.
Don't see it mentioned by anyone here, but Gordon Jones, the Police Rookie here is also the guy who played Mike the Cop on the Abbott & Costello TV shows. I guess this is where he started his police career.
Interesting/informative/entertaining. That rookies badge # should be (714). Enjoy viewing the cars/indoor lighting/phone booths/( No TV sets ). Realistically portrayed citizens/gangsters/trainees/Academy police officers/of that era-!!! 🤗.
Gordon Jones in the lead here...12 years later would become famous for his role as "Mike the Cop"...on the classic Abbott &Costello tv program, which ran 2 seasons, and incorporated decades worth of classic bits which the boys performed all over the country...
The "Chief" talking to the old cop, "you've been on the force for 23 years". When did he start on the force, when was 45 years old? Why is it always in movies and TV shows that cops never seem to be able to put in 25 years to retire with a pension? It's always 23 years and they look 68, 20 years and they look 56, 18 years and they look 50. Something always happens and they never put in their time. Have to quit or retire without a pension. Or they get arrested and indicted. Take the character "Detective John Munch" on "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit", he left the show in 2016 (but I guess he got a pension). The actor, Richard Belzer (who cracks me up every time I see him) was 72 years old in real life when left the show.
Let me see now, me own mother was a mere 12 when the movie was made, I need maybe my grandmother's help in the slang? I don't know what all the words mean! But, I love the movie in it's simplicity.
Wasn't the widow of the elder cop, Mary Gordon, a landlady shaking out a carpet in the Edward G. Robinson movie, "Brother Orchid"? Yes, just looked it up. She played Mrs. Sweeney, Flo's landlady.
Good production values. Actors did their personas well. Plot standard tedium. These B movies during this time period typecast the actors in grit-your-teeth roles. I complain now but then, it was work at a time just as the Depression was ending and WWII was imminent.
@27:48 They pass the Civil service exam and have a badge and gun issued to them? Come on. Let's wait until they complete the seven months polic Academy training.
Yeah really..so many people apply today's mores to these old movies. They are nostalgic entertainment, pure and simple ( sometimes a little too simplelol) So sit back, relax, enjoy and wax nostalgic for the" good old days".PS They ain't coming back
Luckily in today's America - the Ends do not justify the Means as they do in this movie. I can think of several laws the police and the hero broke obtaining evidence illegally and resulting in two deaths.
(1) It's a movie. (2) It was written as a B movie to fit a time frame, not be factual. (3) The laws of evidence, apprehension, t=investigation weren't considered for a B movie and everything has changed dozens of times since that time period. It's a movie - get it?
Engaging semi-primer that treats a serious subject with respect Hoped it would be a progressive intro of a woman to the force. Should have known when the title didn't use "girl." For all the injustices we must overlook in old movies, e.g., sexism, racism, stereotypes, etc., they can't be accused of ageism. They are peppered with seniors at all levels of responsibility and influence.

Good old fashion cop drama from the 1940s. I enjoy the old B&W movies especially the film noir ones that had style and imagination.

Thank you for the upload. People seemed to be more caring for one another in those days.
Historical police records would say different. 😂
Opening shot is the old Los Angeles County Hall of Justice. It was in operation 1926-1994, then 2015-Present
@Randy McNary Thank you for the information. I think, it looked so very familiar to me because I had already seen in many other movies.
Thanks very much for sharing this new addition with the viewing public, greatly appreciated. Thanks again!
Another thank you for the upload, and have a very, merry Christmas!

He also played the Green Hornet in the 1940 serial.
This was when "real" acting was done and thought was put into every scene and evey line spoken!
How would you know if any lines weren't spoken?

I nearly lost it when I heard that!
So get a badge and you can kill😲lol✌️
Killing the Blackmen.
I love tghese old low budget movies that look as if they were made over a long weekend.
Pretty good 👊🏾

A nice "follow that car!" type of film.
Haven't seen this classic movie sine the early 70's, it was shown here in Australia in a late night movie marathon.
Thanks, I enjoyed it.
This was a very entertaining story.

Aw, bless your little heart. Tis' music to my ears to hear such sweet sentiment ;)
Lôve these tear jerkers with happy endings.❤
...Characters two-dimensional, acting mediocre to fair... Sorry, but I LOVE these old movies!!
12:45 "Mom, be a good girl and get me another cup of coffee"
Lol
Gordon jones, I just watched him in the last alarm with the same wife. There he was a fire captain.
25:30 “swipin’ fruit never made anybody a cop!” 😂
Mike The Cop from Abbott and Costello show! 11 minute

She also played the landlady in many of the old Sherlock Holmes movies, as Mrs. Hudson !!!😊😊😊 !!!
"Mike the Cop"...

Love it
What a line for pal Kelly to go out on. I wonder if the actors gagged after the cameras stopped rolling.
very good movie

IF YOU ARE A ROOKIE COP YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE A YOUNG COP, NOT 72 YEARS OLD.

As it should be and once was.
The 'luck of the Irish' is overrated. I thought he was gonna get shot in his chair.
Terrible acting but a lot of fun! I used go see these as a kid for .50 at the Majestic!
How many rounds were fired, without anybody being hit!? Goodness!
+ToniA5555 It's not unrealistic. There have been gunfights that happened at arms lengths with over 16 rounds fired and not a single hit made.
@@Hotshotter3000 Indeed, it is rare to get shot in a gunfight.
