Is this method easier/better then naming the instance fixup and triggering the instance itself with a trigger? As it normally has the right relay outputs built in. Thats what i do.
Thanks for the very nice tutorrial. Can you make a video about how to make a cube dropper that always contains a cube? Bc if I make a cube dropper like this, the dropper will be empty when one cube is out.

i did all they told me to on the weird SDK website :P
I overwrote the instance by a mistake and dont know how to change it back
so for a paint version of this instant would you just change the prop_cube entity to the paint_sprayer entitty ? and would you still use stuff like templates e.t.c

Though there's still one thing I don't understand - why you had to add the func_instance_io_proxy?
in the inputs/outputs it said "OnProxyRelay" "Cube_Drop_Relay" "Trigger", which I understand, but in the actual map you triggered the Cuber_Drop_relay directly.
The proxy made it so you could interface it. Whatever you didn't add to the proxy (16 inputs max) you couldn't interface to them from the outside

I cannot extract my portal 2 on steam, nor can I open materials from portal 2 into my hammer... Can you help please?
I mean really strip it into its ingredients instead of: edit instances->save differently->go back into main scene->switch vmf file for regarding instance!?

This really helped me out! I'm still having some problems with the parameters, though. I'm using an env_laser in an instance; the "Target of Laser" is set to $targetname, and my parms has a parameter $targetname string. The io works fine, but even when I replace the value with the name of an object, it continues to aim at the default. I don't know if it's related, but the $targetname in Target of Laser has red text, despite the value in parms. Any ideas?
uhm, i load the the vmf file in func_instance and i apply but i dont see the thing show up.
its not there. Please help cuz this is maby 1 of the most useful things in this editor.

You can import an instance from sdk_content/instances. Pretty sure there was one labelled with elevator.

Hey! I have trouble making func_instances. Whenever find the VMF file (in this case global_ents.vmf) and click apply and nothing happens. Why is that?
Pshygoboy it probably isn't working because you have used an autosave version of your map after hmer crashed or something. intlstances won't load on autosave files
i think this also works in hl2e2

How do i add like water drops into Portal.
i have a problem with instances in my portal 2 map - i'm trying to make a departure elevator in my world, but no matter what i do, or even what instance i load, it wont show up. I know that i am doing everything right, but nothing appears! i've even tried saving the map, closing hammer, and re-opening it, but still nothing shows up but the func_instance. the elevator isnt something that i made, it's a premade instance already inplememted in the game. any help?
