Pininfarina is known for their design work with Ferrari, and commissions with industrial and household products. This is an attractive pen. Thanks for the review Douglas
What a beautifully-designed and ergonomic pen! Thanks for this excellent and thorough review, Doug, and thanks to Joost Appelboom for providing this pen for review.
Lovely pen. Italian design is style plus function which is why it’s usually so good. They believe an object has to have both. This pen is no exception. Also love the Douglas Addams quote. I remember finding surprisingly a group of American nerds who knew and loved Hitchhikers and we spent an evening trying to figure out and try recipes for the pan galactic gargle blaster in a bar in Atlanta. Thanks again Doug for the pen and the memories.
Douglass had such an amazing turn of phrase. Hated writing and when I talked with his publisher he was already a year late in delivery. Do you know he and Stephen Fry were close friends? I bet the air was electric between them, two great brains and alternative thinkers. @@InkquiringMinds
@@brightonbabe2139 I knew that Douglass hated writing - especially deadlines. He was a masochist though because he'd deliberately paint himself into writing corners. Like in HHGTTG radion show, he kills the main characters in the second episode and then had to "invent" the Infinite Infinity Drive to keep the series going for the next week's broadcast!
That is a sexy looking pen and not ridiculously priced. Thank you for the review. I would never have known about this pen otherwise. I'm on a pen buying hiatus until the end of the year but this one is going on next year's shopping list! 😊
I've had this pen (in black) for nearly two years now. I was attracted by the design, found it to be a very good writer and even learned how to use the clip one handed (but it's still tricky). That cantilevered clip is still not the most grippy so I defaulted to what I think is this pen's metier -- desk use! As you found, it's very handy for quick notes, lists etc.
Cool looking pen! Thanks for the opportunity to see it. Pinanfarina also did the second year and subsequent years body design of arguably the first American sports car after the Great Depression. If you ever saw the old George Reeves "Superman" TV series, you probably saw one, as Clark Kent's car was a Nash Healey. Only seams are trunk, hood, and doors. (The only one I've seen in person is still about 3 miles from where I currently live. Guy is a HUGE Nash collector.)
Hi Douglas. Thank you for another great video. It would be interesting to see a side-by-side comparison between the Diplomat Aero and this Pininfarina. And maybe throw in a similar Gravitas a/o Ensso model. I’ve been looking at both the PF2 and Aero, trying to decide which I like better and why. Thanks again.
Nice pen for sure. Super slick in looks. Nib reminds you of the Visconti Mythos Apollo? I feel they missed the boat to make this pen have a hooded nib to match the look on the outside, but it's still a good pen. Might of jumped the price up a hair for the hooded nib as well where as this isn't bad at all on price. Nice review Doug! Also I got the new Esterbrook in Antique Rose with the Gena's Journaler nib and love it. You are going to love the Josh Lax Scribe nib!! I have one and love it!
@@brightonbabe2139 I actually just acquired a Waterman Carene in Marine Amber with a medium nib and also after a couple years of delaying it got a Pilot E95s with a medium nib in the Burgundy and Ivory. Both wonderful pens!!
@@williamcatalano1762 They are both beatiful. I just got my second Waterman Carene Black and Silver delux with a fine nib and is as beautiful in life as it looked in the picture. I was outbid for an orance Waterman Carene but there will be others. Enjoy your pens and thank you for sharing.
@@brightonbabe2139 I had problems with mine with ink flow. It acted starved and would hard start. Even if I primed with the converter. That was with diamine ancient copper. I took that out and cleaned it really good again and put Noodler's Dark Matter in which is more lubricated and wet. Haven't had another problem... who knows. Those pens might be finicky on what inks you use
I am surprised at how well this pen is constructed and the overall performance of the pen. The PF One was not one I would consider. Also Pininfarina made pens initially that were perhaps more for display than for use. This pen is sleek, seems to hold well in the hand and appears to be a lovely writer. The price is reasonable. It is a worthy pen worthy of consideration. I don't have any pens with a Schmidt nib. It seems to perform nicely. Does Appelboom time the nibs before shipping? Here is the big question. Will you keep it? Great review, Doug.
Thanks for the review. The pen is nice but it's just not my type. Regarding your comments about Pelikan: At the moment it is still owned by a malaysian investment group (since 18 years) but it most likely will be sold to the french Hamelin group at the end of september (if the shareholders agree). Hamelin also owns the Oxford paper brand. The Pelikan pens always have been manufactured in Germany and that will not change under Hamelin.
Lovely pen, with a minimalistic design but too expensive for a steel nib at 140eu. Especially with the magnetic cap that would make me think this as an EDC. I would prefer a version leaning towards the 200eu, but with a gold nib. Something to rival the Lamy 2000.
If you buy an Italian sports car do you get a free pen? A lovely, very shapely pen I think I’d put in a pouch. It looks like you have to be a contortionist to use that clip? If you want more magnetic thrills look at a Monteverde Ritma or Regatta.
The pen has a nice heft to it. However the converter is very disappointing - feels very cheap. Also the nib could have had more choices rather than just steel. Other than that, a great pen.
Bought mine at the Orlando Pen Show last year. The clip is useless. I will say that it doesn’t dry out even after a long period of non use. Great review.

I have never had a UA-camr cost me so much money. ;>). Carry on.
LOL 😂
Love that design! The cool looking blue finish and distinctive shape are super. Nice review. Thanks Doug.
Cool pen, Doug! Pininfarina also designed the GM Cadallic Allante (1980s) body. Those Stroop Waffles can be addicting.
I give them away to a Dutch friend!

Very attractive pen, and, unlike many pens bearing a 'prestige' name, actually worthy of its heritage.
I was skeptical but it is very nice!
Unique shape, nice to see them experiment with a new design
Thank you! Cheers!

Thanks. Appelboom will only tune nibs over a certain price point by request. There was no ink residue so I don’t believe it was tuned.
