"President Trump on Tuesday dug in on his demand for a border wall as the government shutdown stretched into its fourth day.
Speaking to reporters after calling troops on Christmas Day, Trump said lawmakers must approve wall funding or else the shutdown will continue.
'I can't tell you when the government is going to be open,' he said. 'I can tell you, it's not going to be open until we have a wall, a fence, whatever they'd like to call it. I'll call it whatever they want.'
Trump argued that thousands of workers being furloughed due to the shutdown also want the wall."

My dad retired from the IRS this week and he can't get his retirement check until the Government opens back up. Retirement checks already take time to start coming in and there will be a backlog when the government does open. He is not expecting his first check until March right now. Luckily he is in a position where he can survive like that. I'm worried for the families and individuals who aren't as financially stable.

I had a job once where I lived paycheck to paycheck. If rent was late I would have nowhere to sleep. It would have been impossible to find another place for what i was paying close to work. So much depends on just getting what you are owed on time. The orange clown will never understand this point.

What’s the wall gonna do? Most illegal immigrants came in legally, and they just didn’t renew their visas. A wall isn’t gonna stop much. The people who cross the border are determined to get to the other side and they will find a way. I’m not with this illegal immigration via border, but these people do have their reasons. They need jobs, new homes and new lives, they don’t have as much opportunities at the time in Mexico, and they can’t wait the long af times to get approved for immigration. Most of them will work in farms and will take jobs that most Americans won’t. This “they’re taking our jobs” bullshit better stop from trump supporters. Most of the people that spout that BS act as if they want to work on a farm.

Here's something I'm curious about. Is it even legal for these employees to be forced to work without pay? I know that every OTHER business in the country would be in criminal trouble for slave labor if they were forced to work without any compensation; does our country really allow for legal slave labor if the work is for the federal government?

But the issue does come from our unpleasant history. Rather than being a 'two party' system we are a 'one issue' system. People vote for parties based on who they oppose rather than what they stand for, so neither side has any incentive to agree with the other on any issue.

its not just government employees.. its also contractors.. the people who build roads that are paid by the gov dont get paid if their boss doesnt get that check to pay them.. most of those business owners will take out loans to pay their employees until that government check comes in.. but the business owners are still stuck with that interest payment

I have a sister who -is already struggling financially- working for our national park service who isn’t getting paid (pease correct me if I’m wrong), she has a 4yo daughter to think about, she’s working two jobs just to stay afloat and now one of those jobs isn’t even paying her, all because Trump is having a tantrum over his wall.
