How interesting to see this 1978 kit - the bit about securing the gears with a hot nail astounded me! I love the way you painted the upperworks - I´m sure that Lt. Kennedy would have no trouble recognising his old boat, with the subtle way you´ve weathered the torpedo tubes etc. Well, I´m dying to see it run - apart from anything else, I´m curious to see how well it goes with a silver can 540/550 brushed motor!
@@AdventureTimeRC Oh no! They did look a little narrow; I guess the manufacturers of the kit weren´t expecting you to use such a powerful motor. Maybe they thought you´d use a 180 or something.
@@AdventureTimeRC nice, I can't believe they are still available!! I had one as a kid, it sunk in lake huron, michigan never did find it!! For the one I have now I bought traxxas 380 gear, just need to install it......one day!
@@AdventureTimeRC I did not because I couldn't source counter rotating props, although changing brushless motor turning direction is easy. The boat tracks straight using headlock gyro from RC helicopter I have around. ua-cam.com/video/cnic4iYb5Ss/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/u8k4daIJ6Vg/v-deo.html
That's extremely impressive Brent!!! I saw the thumbnail and thought it was a static Model. Great RC conversion!!! 👊👋👋👋👋👋👋 I'd love to get a RC Boat.... But guess what the one thing that's missing from Arizona?? 😖
THAT'S THE ATTITUDE Brother!!! 👍👍💯 I might actually get a small Boat, to run in our Apartment's Pool!! 😋 Seriously. Your Boat is something special though... It's a beautiful Scale Model.
nice SCORE, complete with all the old school Dumas style hardware. counter rotating props? looked again, its not, shouldn't affect it much, not high power or speed and dual rudders aren't going to allow much of anything prop walk, you'll maybe see a little better steering one direction. nice painting, waterline maybe a little high but easy enough to correct that, fully load it and float it in the tub, mark with a pencil. a lot of the real ones were pretty crazy, all wood construction powered by three 1,000 hp Chrysler engines to run 65-70 nauts, they'd have give a modern super boat a run for its money. a few years back a friend and I were seriously contemplating building a 15 foot mini replica to pilot from within, AirSoft machine guns and motorized torpedo's to wreak havoc at the lakes just for giggles.
Have one. Converted it to a regular model kit. It bugs me to no end that the gun positions have no safety railings. Not the 109 though. 109 didn't have a mast & there was a 37 mm cannon on the bow. This is an inaccurate toy some one can play with in a pool or pond. For some reason the gun tubs are not the same diameter.
Yes, accuracy leaves a lot to be desired. Also, the front windows on the chart house are way too big. They look correct on the box picture. Actually the mast does look correct and the 37MM gun was only put on before it’s last patrol.
Nicely done. Dad & I built this model when I was kid, not motorized. Thanks for the memories. 00
Thats awesome you can still find them really great kits I will have to do some work if I want to keep driving it the gears don't hold up well
That's great review, the music and the boat so beautiful 🥰👍
Thank you very much my friend
Nice build with a sweet paint job from a good looking kit. The instruction to me seemed better than a lot of kits I build in the past.
Thank you Malcolm the instructions are surprisingly well for being 43 years old i have also had newer kits with much worse instructions

built mine in 2009, converted to two direct drive 750kv brushless motors, 2 2200mah 3s lipo batteries.
I need to convert mine did you use counter rotating props I'm not sure what ones to use

What color for hull? Dark gray? Green 0r olive drab on top?
I use 2 motors instead of the gearbox
I plan on doing the same it seems like a better option

I shredded the gear drive first run lol I am going to redo it with direct drive saver can 540 motors it went great for about a minute lol
Strange I didn’t get a notification on this. I’m not getting them on several people. 🤬
I have been having issues with lots of different stuff on you tube as well don't know of they are updating their system or what
AS2 motors instead of this 1 in the gearbox black wire
