WE are not obsessed with SUVs, but all the manufacturers are! I am wanting to replace my V70, but there is nothing out there that equates to it.
Chicken and egg discussion
Ditto. Nothing out there to replace my MkIII Skoda Superb Estate. Like you say there's nothing out there with a sensible price tag that could replace any estate car. I buy cars at 2-3 years old so even if this or other estate EV's became available now I would have to wait a while before I could get it , or afford it!
@@colingoode3702 If only Polestar would do a Polestar 2 Touring..........you would have many Volvo and ex Volvo drivers chomping at the bit for one. Me being first in the Q
I love estates / wagons
I'm with you, but we're in the minority. Hopefully the relative inefficiency (and this inferior range) of electric SUVs triggers an estate car comeback!
The interior is beautiful! I think Nio is doing a really good job.
Finally another Estate! I wish every car maker had a estate version of all major models!
I'm waiting for the A6 e-tron estate. Shame Model S isn't available as an estate too. I'd be all over it.
I agree, that’s a beautiful wagon. I’d pick it over most SUVs.
I'd pick it over absolutely ANY SUV.
I truly detest everything about SUVs and their bastard offspring, the "Crossover", while I think that estates (wagons) have plenty of advantages for those that really do need to cutely use their vehicles for carrying stuff.
@@davidcolin6519 Crossover is just fine
@@birdyashiro1226 No, it isn't. Crossovers till have that stupidly high seating position which affects every part of the dynamics equation. Higher CoG, greater forces for the suspension to deal with, more weight, poorer handling, worse aerodynamics, poorer efficiency, poorer steering and yet not one discernible advantage other than the higher seating
*any
@@davidcolin6519Crossovers SUVs are just SUVs with interior volume handicap
good to see more and more people raising the benefits of wagons.
This is very true, it seems we are going full circle on the Karen "I'm not driving the car my mom drove!". Wagon - Mini Van - SUV - CUV - Wagon, and round and round we go! Though those Japanese super low mini vans are what I would drive, so much space and they look awesome!
I will look at this when time comes to replace my Peugeot...
@@anydaynow01 hardly anyone in their 20's today grew up associating wagons with their parents. Also small suvs have become so vanilla they are just larger hatchbacks. They used to have spare wheels on back, push bar bumpers and look rugged and capable in the 90s that styling has disappeared from small suvs
This car is not going to sell. Radar on the roof? Ugly !! And having to swap batteries? Do I hear showstopper?
@@aeropricer it wont sell because it doesn't come from a well known maker, if tesla made a model 3 wagon they would sell literally millions,
Love the looks of that wagon. Nicely done!
If this was available in the US I’d be all over it 🙌
I absolute need a SUV for off-roading because sometimes I miss my driveway and roll onto the lawn. Plus, how else will people know that I'm a macho man, other than my leather pants, silk shirt, and rose sun glasses.
😂🤣😂
😂😆
O. M. G. First car reviewer in the history of the internet that measures trunk door height thanks!
Love my Corolla touring sport (estate!). I have had 2 x Honda CRV & a Toyota C-HR crossover & they were great cars. But the estate does everything they did, plus it’s better looking & much more fun to drive. It is also better on mpg too. It’s time people started to realise that as well as getting into newer more efficient cars that if they bought smaller cars including estates they would be helping the planet more & also have car that is better to drive & cost less to run. It’s time to ditch SUVs & 4x4s unless you actually need them.
its time to realize that people buy SUVs because of potholes, bad roads, and crazy huge speedbump
Really wish we had choices like this in the U.S.
i dont know why the US abandoned wagons given their benefits over crossovers?, in europe they stuck around in small numbers
Why? You’d pay far more for an inferior and ill supported vehicle.
@@jezza6575 so people got lurred in by marketing is that what your saying?
@@quackcementit's the fuel economy standards. Wagons are cars, which means they are subject to more stringent emissions and efficiency regulations, whereas crossovers are trucks according to the rules and so they don't have to work as hard to make them compliant. Even if they're effectively doing the same job at about the same weight class as a wagon.
@@jezza6575 There is absolutely NOTHING inferior about a station wagon in comparison with an SUV. In fact, the packaging of SUVs is so bad that they often have less useable space than many sedans that are significantly smaller on their outside dimensions.
And SUVs have terrible handling, usually dreadful steering and awful general dynamics. That is because the entire SUV package emphasises a high seating position/Enormous dimensions over everything else, including basic common sense. And in order to create that higher seating position, everything else has to be higher, including the CoG.
I just ordered one. Can't wait.
Very interesting review (as always, I'd say...). European automakers must be keeping a close eye on Nio, because their cars are flawless in both design, technology and prices. It's a bit scary, isn't it?
It was the build and material quality that really shone when I drove an ET7 last year
European automakers seem to be losing it. Renault made a good Megane, but wont deliver it. Stellantis keeps trying to make every car with every drivetrain option at the cost of efficiency. WV group is way too expensive for the features. BYDs and MGs are just dominating this space, while Xpeng and NIO also try to enter the market, inevitably cutting a piece from legacy automakers.
@@JackScarlett1RHD cars please
think they are expensive compared to other not so known brands.
Expensive and too wide because of the battery swap - that's a big own goal
Great review. What a car! Pretty much like every other NIO... Beautiful 😍
Interesting car, terrible review.
Now that's what I'm talking about, what a fantastic looking car and I love the interior of this car, simple but functional fantastic.👍👍
Agreed.
I’m so happy that Wagons seem to be making a comeback. Absolutely love the design of this car!
They are not making a comeback. They are dying everywhere. Mercedes will not be building C and E class wagons soon for example. They've been a staple of the lineup but will be gone.
@imnotusingmyrealname4566 what? That's completely wrong, 90% of all C and E class sales in Europe are wagons, Mercedes wont cut them, they are just money printing machines for them
The normal ET5 has 386L trunk space. Touring has about 490L.
I was just about to comment on that, it is still a bit disappointing my megane has 440
It’s disappointing! A Pug 308 SW has 600
490litres is pretty poor. My Superb has 660 litres.
The boot opening is tiny. Try putting a bike in there.
Wagons FTW indeed, Elliot! Great review. Can't wait for these to be released in Australia...
Best review yet of the ET5 Touring! Thanks!
LOVE THE LOOK OF THIS! WHEN IS IT COMING TO THE UK?
Wow... the new ET5 Touring looks amazing! Go NIO!!
Bangs on about practicality and space, produces tape measure then only measure floor to boot hatch.
Boot size would've been good, height and width of boot opening, loading sill, how much space seats up, seats down etc.
If you're going to literally get a tape measure out you could do the basics at least.
Yes, is the load bay flat when the seats are folded?
Oh that's way too sensible! Clearly you don't know what you are asking! Why would they waste time on practicality when they can talk about aesthetics and cosmetics!! 😂
This thing looks amazing! I have a 2021 Ford Focus which has quite a long wheel base and a lots of space and I think its very good and practical car. I came to Focus from MB C class wagon and can say that the drive quality is very good. And this Neo just looks amazing and its proportions are amazing.
I love that there is a start to addressing the need for EV estate cars. I still wish that there could be that level of practicality that includes a decent sized tailgate opening. So often on modern estate (ICE) cars the tailgate opening seems to be very narrow on the outside and then even narrower and shorter when the tailgate has been opened.
I can imagine that there are enough people using estate cars who want to be able to feed a large object into the back, and not just a large number of small squashy bags.
I have had three Skoda Octavia estates, 2001, 2008, 2016, and each one has been a little more refined, and a little less practical for cargo capacity, ie: my tool boxes don't fit properly anymore, and I can't carry a 3m long soil pipe inside! 😄
MG have one here in the UK. Very understated and doesn't look like an EV, so easily missed.
@@GudieveNing Yes, I am familiar with it.
I nearly went for the mk1 but it couldn't tow or carry a roof rack so I couldn't use it. The mk2 can do both but the towing capacity is about the unladen weight of my trailer.
Sometimes I feel they are just teasing me as I keep waiting for 'the next one which will be better'. 🤣
Really I am waiting for a second hand mk2 in my price bracket, as it will do most of what I need and that is more the point.
Skoda Octavia is still the most practical wagon/estate out there. Others can't compare.
Well done. Very good presentation. Thank you very much.
I used to hate wagons but man are they becoming so stylish nowadays 😢.
NIO is an auto industry leader! $NIO
just got mine 2 weeks ago. absolutely in love with the car. they should be way more popular considering the quality they deliver.
Great review as always, good to see more variety from some car brands
Nio, if you’re listening-We’re ready for you in the US!
The soft edge look of this interior is amazing! We need interior's like this in North America!!
As the owner of an Alfa 159 Sportwagon, I love this car.
Hey Elliot. Love your work 👍
No one can hate the design of this car. Such a cute looking thing ❤🥹
I for one even like the Lidar horns!
This is a mash up of rip offs. It's hideous.
@@dalexalmao, mashup of what? Don’t be a hater. NIO has some of the best made vehicles out there
@@dalexahere we go again.. 🥱🥱🥱🤕🤡

Great review but missing details on the main reason people buy wagons. What is its cargo capacity, do the rear seats fold flat for a level cargo area etc?
Was interested in this as well. Seats up it's 450L, the smallest of any estate as far as I know. The seats fold very nearly flat, 1300L capacity.
The rear opening looks very narrow, impacts what you can fit inside, especially compared to my 5 series estate/wagon. Really hope more EV estates come out with good storage
In most cases, a 4wd wagon is a better alternative to SUVs. Opel is releasing an electric Astra Wagon and maybe an electric Insignia in the future. Audi will bring the A6 Avant e-tron. VW will have an ID.7 wagon. Skoda has a wagon as well in their presentation for upcoming EVs. Most likely they will share the platform. I expect Seat will have one as well. If they sell, many more will follow.
Where do you live or drive that you need a 4wheel drive?
The reason I got an SUV after 5 estate cars was ground clearance. So fed up grounding the estates when going over even slightly rough ground or farm tracks. The boot size was slightly smaller in the SUV than the estates but still ok. The higher driving position in the SUV is great and provides much better visibility especially when it’s raining as you are above the worst of the road spray. If you only ever drive in town or on good main roads estates are ok but having had an SUV I won’t be going back, especially as I live out in the countryside, where the roads are not so good.
ID 7 estate version (shooting brake) is another one that should be out in 24. In fact the saloon version of the ID7 looks like it has a far larger boot. Will be interesting to see how that stacks up.
I would estimate that the !D.7, when it lands in Ireland , is going to easily be an €80k car with a nice spec on it...........too expensive for a VW
Effin bland though...
@@JackScarlett1 We need BYD to do a Touring version of the Seal....that would be tasty (and eventually available in RHD)
Except VW announced ID7 put off due to “lack of EV demand”. Pull the other one.
@@FrunkensteinVonZipperneck production issues would be more likely....
Styling looks better than the MG5, but not sure that it’s 50% more £££ better. It will be good to get a direct A/B comparison once it’s available in Europe.
Interestingly from what I've been told by the time this arrives in Europe MG will be about to launch the next generation MG5
Is it me, or is the back end of that wagon a wee bit Taycan?? Not that that’s a bad thing! 😊
I see it!
The designer garden of both Porsche and Tycoon helped in the design of the et5 touring. (or at least that's what I heard)
This will be my car when it comes to the US; I'm picking yellow.
If this was available in the UK I'd be all over it, I love Estates/Tourings/Wagons etc and this one is stunning.
I checked the ET5 Touring in Berlin, its beautiful and practical. The boot space is about 450l, not 386l as you put it in the video
Correct, and if you include the second floor in the trunk and the small storage area underneath it, the boot space is actually 495L in total.
We loved our Octavia RS wagon and I was really keen to get an EV wagon but we bought an Atto 3 while we were waiting for better cars to be available in Australia. One thing I do like about the atto 3 is that I don't bash my head on the higher tail gate when I'm getting changed after going for a paddle on the surf ski. This wasn't a problem for my vertically challenged wife but she finds it harder to load the kayak onto the higher roof. I really like the look of the ET5 but the small boot space I think would be a deal breaker for us
Great video - interesting NIO estate but how will battery exchange work in the UK?
Bring this to the US, I WANT!
US trade regulations/political donors says NO
for your national security
The fin-Market;s have underperformed the U.S. economy as fear of inflation hammers the prices of stock;s and bonds. My portfoliio of $750k is down to $592k any recommendation;s to scale up my return;s during this crash will be highly appreciated.
You have to get a financial-advisor/broker to aid you diversify your portfolios to include commodities, inflation-indexed bonds and stocks of companies with solid cash flows, as opposed to growth stocks where valuations were valuations were based on future potentials earnings.
I agree, I've been in constant touch with a Financial Analyst for approximately 8 months. You know, these days it's really easy to buy into trending stocks, but the task is determining when to sell or hold. That's where my manager comes in, to help me with entry and exit points , I've accrued over $550k from an initially stagnant reserve of $150K all within 14months.
Please can you leave the info of your investment advisor here? I’m in dire need for one...
Eric T Witt is the licensed fiduciary I use. Just research the name. You’d find necessary details to work with a correspondence to set up an appointment..
Thanks, his website popped up on the first page immediately I searched him, I read through his resume and seems pretty interesting, so I booked a call to discuss with him.
Can’t wait to get mine.
I'd love to see a comparison video between this ET5 touring and the Denza N7.
I am in love with this wagon .... i really like it.
Had a kia niro ev for a couple of months now, not sure how it got pictured as an example of an suv in the opening montage though? If anything it's 3/4 the way between a hatchback and estate at 475L of bootspace.
Nice! A non-Jack video. More Elliot please
Another very good looking and well equipped EV from Nio. One thing you didn't mention is whether there is a frunk? This would be another plus in terms of load lugging capacity so may well be of interest to those looking for an alternative to an SUV.
Don't think there is, but there is more space (in L) than he mentioned in the back, and you can also lift the bottom of the trunk for more storage space, which he didn't show
NIOs don’t have frunks
That color in front of that pink wall was genius.. Whoever thought of that please give them a raise - they're not getting enough..
Is a 'raised' version with more ground clearance on the cards?
This looks really nice. Handsome car.
If it ever gets to the UK 1 I'll be amazed and 2 They'll pile the pounds on.
Any news on NIO bringing these fantastic vehicles to Ireland/UK in RHD form????
That NIO ET5 Touring (100KW) would make many, many travelling salesmen (and women) very happy.
I would be surprised if NIO did. Euro sales are minuscular and I doubt it would make economic sense to engineer a RHD variant for an even smaller market. And good luck to NIO attempting to sell a touring variant of a non-selling sedan.
@@ByronWalter I wonder are they in the Australian market, South African market, Japanese market?
All RHD also.
The UK love estate cars and I reckon it would be a big hit with business drivers in Ireland 🇮🇪 when we are eventually forced into EV's
@@06younger So far NIO has not done well in Germany, Sweden, Denmark or the Netherlands. Seems it would be a reach to spread to more countries at this point, let alone countries that would require new RHD tooling. But this is coming from someone that recently dump his NIO ADR shares and took a hit :( OTOH, I'd rock an ET5 Touring over a Tesla Y any day.
nice to see Wagons come back, but this one is only 5 cm lower than many so called SUV. 19" and 20" have the same size outside, its just how much is rim an rubber.
In the UK it's called an estate, not a wagon.
It's good to see estate EVs appearing but unfortunately neither this nor the MG5 really hit the mark for practically...their boots are smaller and less accessible than many SUVs. We need something similar to an Octavia estate, which is a medium sized car with a boot over 600l and a completely flat load lip.
Funnily enough, in my response to this thread, I said I'd like to see a fully electric Skoda Superb. The Superb & Octavia are proper "estate cars". Why can't we have one of those?
With the "Skateboard" EV layout every car manufacturer is making, dont know why they just dont make Vans and use all the space inside, you dont need a Hood in a EV
I.e. like canoos ev van?
@@4literv6 Damn that one is so cool!
@@RogueBeatsARG it really is imo. Shame they may not raise enough funds to survive and bring it to actual mass production.
They have billions of dollars. Everything is fine. Not long ago they raised 750 million dollars in exchange for five percent of the company.
What are the plans for UK launch and pricing ?
Such a great car. Beautiful Design! Let's go NIO
If i was in the market for a car now, this would be No. 1, Would pick this over my EV6 any day
The boot opening seems quite narrow though, a bit like the Hyundai Ioniq 6, and that’s really a shame. Any front trunk?
I remember that I heard that in US those SUVs and pickups have easier emission, fuel consumption and safety requirements by some legislation.. I guess that may explain something. IMO
Wagons for the win! I sure hope more manufactures start producing wagons again.
Love the colours
I like this EV, it's very necessary in today's market with huge brutal looking EV utility vehicles. It looks quite quaint, very nice styling and the color is wicked.
beautiful and advanced
Boot width looks very narrow - you should have measured that too. Car looks awesome generally. Rear end has a nice Porsche feel to it. 4:12 is the only shot of the back with the boot down.
Boot space is diappointing, Nissan Leaf has 435L in a similarly-or-more compact body.
nice nicely done
Looks like a nice estate,I never bought the marketing hype about Suv's.
If they could only give it steering with feel, most important for a driver focused experience along with handling/ride balance.
I love the way this looks. Much better than the Astra estate or any SUV. Please can we have it in the UK soon.
Supposed to be entering the UK market by the end of this year, hopefully 🙏
7:11 I that a Chademo charge port? Or something else China specific?
Wagons rule. Cool color
YES! The most beautiful station on the market!
So help me here, what is the physical difference that makes this a "Wagon" when compared to an Ioniq5 or EV6 small SUV(not an SUV ) /hatchback . It has narrow rear hatch like them and not wide compared to what I remember a station wagon was in the 1980's in Canada. No third row rear facing seats etc. 🤣
Never considered a wagon but this looks really nice.
Off Road for camping and ground clearance. Towing capacity?? Price vs Tesla. Charging speed?
I like that a lot, but is it actually going to come to the uk ?
Great review, just a few comments: 1. The price of the et5 touring is the same as the regular et5. 2. The trunk is 450 liters including the hidden compartment. 3. There is still a reason to buy an SUV. The es6 has a larger wheelbase, a larger trunk, (in 100 liters) self-developed seats that are much more comfortable, better damping quality, innovative braking technology that makes braking smooth and much more pleasant, from 100 to 0 in 34 meters. And many more benefits. What's more, it's still very attractive for tighter budgets.
This car looks really good!
I am tempted, some day when I am in the market I will be after something just like this. This is the most attractive ev for me.
Shades of the ol GTC 4 Lusso about it. Its a beaut!😍🤩
What about ground clearance and do the rear seats fold flat.
I purchased a MBZ 1990 E300 wagon w/23K miles on it in 1997. It was an eye opener. The cargo space was larger than my wife's MBZ GLC 300. I kept it until the annual maintenance was getting very expensive. I sold it and loved the wagon so much I purchased a new 2006 Volvo V70R. (136K miles and still own it). I am preparing for a new purchase and want an EV wagon. As we know there is minimal availability. I have my eye on the yet to come VW wagon due in 2025. I use a wheelchair so when alone the chair goes on the front seat. If with someone the chair goes in the cargo space w/o taking it apart. If I started waling tomorrow I would still own a wagon. They are a car frame, SUVs are trucks.
A working roof rack, GREAT, at last. However, with all those cameras, why the door mirrors?
Estates & Wagon is all we really need. Subaru still makes wagons but they are large.
Fantastic!
Loved the 'Tinder' reference 🤣🤣Agree we need more practical wagons instead of SUV's. Great Vid. 👍
Fantastic! Better aerodyn.ics and acceleration vs suv's 👍👍🙌. On our short shortlist for sure 🤩
Beautiful car, very tempting. Wish it is bigger, longer and slightly higher, eg. ET7 touring
This channel is turning into 'Top Gear'. Can you show more of the latest innovations in the world of solar set ups and new technology that is not car related.
Thanks 👍
There is a sister channel called Everything Electric which does all that sort of stuff. Fully Charged has always been EV focused.
Super cool! Elliot do you have any research on the Chinese manufacturers and battery fires/faults? Recently saw a video that was pretty drama-filled/concerning. Keen to hear your thoughts!
That’s a very nice looking car. Please bring it to Australia
I loved the NIO brand when I saw it in China but the battery swap is just not going to work in Rural Cambridgeshire. I’ll have to drive to London to swap my battery.
As a Ford Smax driver and in the past when the sprogs were babies I owned a Ford Galaxy, I often wonder why nobody has gone down the MPV route with EVs, at least this is a stepping stone I guess but I do like the higher driving position of the Smax and the easier ingress/egress with my dodgy back!
MPVs were the future once and they were actually a great idea. Unfortunately , the car buying public isn’t very bright and was seduced by the faux utility and cynical marketing of the SUV.
the most beautiful wagon hands down.
Would be interested in knowing what they coated their seats with to make them easy to clean
My first thought: sounds like PFAS!
Looks great
