You said "relax with the peaceful sounds of the river" and I immediately just had to add my own drone sound effects, completely ruining the effect. Lovely video, great location and the description of how you got the shots was very helpful!
Haha yea, our brains are just wired for FPV now… we can never relax. But at least I tried to bring you some peace. Appreciate the comment, and glad to hear it was interesting. I’m working another, more intense, video focused on how HDZero handles losing signal in the mountains. Some real ‘oh sh!t’ moments… stay tuned, cheers!
Thanks, glad to hear this! FPV very often is all a lot fast action, but these sort of shots can be very satisfying to watch. Thanks for the comment, cheers!
Yea, it’s a great way to spend a day, or even a couple hours. Out in nature, exploring new spots. Time for you to take an FPV camping trip, appreciate the comment, cheers!
Man, it's insane how you're killing it, cruising through all that thick foliage... I'm not sure if I'd ever have the guts to tackle that in Acro mode (with DJI FPV, I've stuck to the woods in Normal mode). Major props to you, buddy! Once again, dropping loads of useful, real-world knowledge. Thanks a bunch!
Yea, I’m very comfortable with this 7” quad, and can fly through surprisingly tight areas with it. Also it’s pretty good at smashing through branches when needed… the only time I use Angle Mode is when I’m doing slow Proximity flying with my tiny whoop. In general Acro just had better control. This was a fun run, first time I found this waterfall!
Yes, I agree, Air mode provides better control, although I must admit that Angle mode is completely different from Normal mode in DJI FPV... with it, you can let go of the RC and the drone stays hovering in place. But yes, Air mode definitely provides a better flying experience. Good luck, friend, see you later!@@GiantAntCowboy
Hey just saw this comment. I’ve never flown DJI, so can’t really speak to those modes, but Air/Acro Mode just take getting used to. Eventually you don’t even think, it’s just muscle memory like tying your shoes. In fact if I accidentally flip into Angle Mode I panic now because it feels so weird and out of my control. Haha
Hey thanks, appreciate the comment. The GoPro footage did come out nice, and it was even overexposed due to an accidental ISO setting… HDZero definitely handles these environments quite well. The image quality looks even better in the 1080p mode but I was using 720p here because I was sharing the feed with a ‘co-pilot’. Thanks again, cheers!
Great to hear it was helpful, figured some folks might enjoy see the ‘behind the scenes’ footage and commentary. I’m working on couple new videos, one discussing lost signal situations in the mountains (some intense moments.), and another comparing HDZ and WalkSnail in the deep forest. Both are coming together well, just need to finish editing… so stay tuned, cheers!
@@GiantAntCowboy ahh cool, I'm looking forward to it! I've been to Norway last summer and took some shots too. Really love the country! :) Good luck with the comparisons, I'll definitely check them out.
Great stuff! I fly HDZ in the hills here in California and I love your footage both from a cinematic point of view as well as the tips/tricks. I'm always surprised when HDZ takes a hit like this from trees, but I have the same experience. Open LOS is fine for kilometers, but a tree line can mess with you surprisingly quickly.
Thanks, appreciate the comment. Yes, trees are really hard for all 5.8ghz RF systems, actually it’s mostly the leaves. The water inside blocks RF really well. My WalkSnail system performs really poorly behind trees as well. If I was aiming the directional antennas towards the quad I would have had much better signal, but I was facing the river and flying behind myself in this situation.
Yea, a lot of fun exploring the woods like that, better with a smaller quad, but good practice either way. The video signal would have been mostly perfect if I was facing the right direction. I have some proper “Range & Penetration Tests” in my 1W review video; worth a watch if you haven’t seen it. ua-cam.com/video/jzgEcdjl-Lo/v-deo.html Appreciate the comment, cheers!
@@GiantAntCowboy Oh, long time follower, I've definitely scoped those out =) Next I gotta see about making some of those antennas for my goggles too, the reception is just, downright amazing compared to the 'basic' stuff I'm using.
@@Latchfpv funny you mention that, it’s 2am and I literally just finished soldering four new helical antennas. They’re hands down my favorite for my sort of flying. The biggest downside side is the ‘form factor’; meaning they aren’t small and smooth like a patch. But cheap and awesome performance!
@@GiantAntCowboy haha, nice! I hear ya, they aren't super pretty or light, however they check every other box, so I definitely see the value in making a set and having it with me.
Yea I’ve flown this quad a lot over the years and have gotten really comfortable with how it handles in tight situations. Thanks for watching, appreciate the comment, cheers!
Thanks appreciate it. Yea, in a future video I’ll be doing some side-by-side comparisons of HDZ vs WS in the thick woods. It’s neat to see how the systems handle those situations differently. That smearing & laggy video really does make it hard to fly certain areas. Even with 90% static I can pretty comfortably navigate with HDZero. Still trying to improve WS for those uses, but seems to be a software/compression issue. We’ll see. Cheers!
Have found similar results on my own HDZero 5in and a small wing. I do get more breakup, but I'm running a omnidirectional Pagoda kit antennas. I also have had some wavy video which in my experience has been caused by the cheap plastic threads and locking ring of the lenses. I flew my first night flight and although the dvr, which is all record, isn't good for uploading, It is easily flyable and I enjoy the look of the dvr for my own viewing day or night. The breakup is easier than analog to fly through, but if I get, and I have, the dreaded No signal screen, I am at least flying INAV which sports a DJI like RTH including great landing.I haven't done any tuning on this source one v3, ancient 2306 1700, 6s 18650 Li-ion slung under the frame. Great HDZ content and look forward to your next adventure.
Thanks appreciate your sharing your thoughts and experience. Regarding the lens, you might be right, but I tried to reinstall and tighten it a couple times but the issue still remains. Funny because I spent weeks trying to Tune the quad and could never get rid of this vibration… ugh, but was happy to have found the problem! Bummer because my RC5L lens is pretty banged up, need to find a replacement but everything is hard to get in Norway… HDZero breakup is pretty predictable, and generally easy enough to fly through. The only time I really get the No Signal screen is when I screw up and fly behind a large rock or mountain ridge line. Always scary, but a fast punch out restores the image quickly. Appreciate the support, I’m trying to post more regularly, I have like half a dozen half edited videos I just need to finish… so stay tuned, cheers!
Great video, you really sold me on hdzero, I’ll just wait for goggles to be more available and vtxs a bit smaller 😅 tried walksnail and I hate the blur and stutter when signal is weak, it’s not for me.
Yea, goggle supply should increase soon, also there is a smaller 1W in the works which I’d expect soon as well. Both WS/DJI initially have higher image quality but it quickly falls apart when signal gets tough. HDZero maintains the same resolution and latency which just makes it easier to fly out of a tough spot, even with lots of static. Also is doesn’t “disconnect” because it’s never connected in the first place… this a huge benefit for mountain surfing where a disconnect would be game over! Appreciate the comment, I look forward to hearing your thoughts on HDZero. Cheers!
@@GiantAntCowboyIf the DJI signal "falls apart", you're flying in a spot where HDZero would've been long gone. It has better penetration. To me, the only true advantage is latency, so I don't get why people use it for anything but racing. The goggle profile was nice, but then DJI came out with slim goggles too.
@geometerfpv2804 yea, I’ll admit my DJI experience is minimal, only flown it a few times. I own WalkSnail though and have been trying to improve its performance for a few months now. My biggest concern with both DJI & WS, (which is pretty specific to my style of mountain flying), is the image quality and performance creates this false sense of security, and when the limits are pushed too far the systems suddenly become blocky, slow/frozen and in worse case scenarios go completely blank and disconnect! HDZero on the other hand shows exactly what is received as it’s received, and then static for anything lost. This style of transmission is “more honest” and instantly tells you when you’re making a poor LOS choice. Also when you do completely lose signal the system won’t disconnect because it was never connected in the first place. This means that the image comes back the moment LOS is restored. That’s a huge pro for close proximity mountain surfing. DJI however is arguably the best FPV system for most people; extremely polished, easy to use, incredible image & performance, but there’s also horror stories of frozen/blank video feeds and system disconnects which in the mountains is a death sentence. At the end of the day, we all just fly what we have… I definitely interested in the O3 system, looks incredible! Appreciate the comment, and thanks for watching, cheers!
Yea. This is the way to fly a 7”… many people just float around & look at scenery, but you gotta get it there! Take some risks, It’s super thrilling! This quad is horribly “efficient” actually. It’s heavy 1700-1900g AUW depending on battery, and I fly high pitch props; HQProp J75, Love them for this quad! My motors are ECOII 2807 1300kv or 1500kv. Think I had 1500kv in this flight, using 1300kv now which are more efficient theoretically. What’s your build?
@GiantAntCowboy gonna build out an aos ul7 frame super light for the size. Will probably go emax eco 2 2807 1300kv motors as well. Speedybee f722 v3 stack, rush fpv vtx, caddx ratel 2, gemini elrs setup and a thumb pro 4k for stabilized footage and to save as much weight as possible, I'm hoping to stay around 1200g auw with a diy 6s2p 21700 pack which means it needs to be about 600g dry. I also haven't decided on props yet, technically high pitch lose thrust on takeoff from stalling the blade but perform better cruising, while low pitch are good until hitting pitch speed of the prop. I'm also highly debating going 8s after watching your videos on 4s vs 6s efficiency and an 8s2p 21700 pack is only 100g more weight
Absolutely agree, and in my opinion it’s easier to fly through static with consistent image resolution and latency than a blurry image with higher latency. Of course all systems have there place, I’m by no means saying HDZero is the best system hands down… thanks for watching, appreciate the comment. Cheers!
