Found one of these guys at a local pet store while looking for snails. As much as I hate supporting pet store chains I just had to have her. She's in a much better setup now and prefers to be called Mango. Absolutely gorgeous
My captive bred one was super shy as a baby but he hangs out on the surface all the time now and begs for food when he sees me walk by. They're great if you're patient with them!!!
I’m glad you said that.... Just got 1 and I haven’t seen him in 3 days, he’s definitely alive I’ve seen movement. But thanks for your comment. I’ve only had yellow belly skinks before. But I’ve got 3 chams and 2 leopard geckos 🦎
I love my little fire skink. I don't see her often but I know when it's hungry cause the little poop comes flying out of its hiding spot looking for some grub.
Do the juveniles tend to have same patterns or markings as each parent. Does the color shades and how much red on the body and intensity ever vary with the juveniles. I notice this with Tegus" fav". Reason I ask is I see from one individuals Fire Skink versus someone else's. Some just gorgeous and others just lacking. Considering getting one for awhile , I just can't find a really nice one with rich blacks and a lot of rich red. Good video. I enjoyed it
Hi Andie. Yes the babies are small and yes that is the plan. We are holding back babies at the moment to increase our breeding stock so we can breed enough to start selling : )
Andie Toth captive bred fire skinks are very cheap because the breeders have to compete with wild caught sellers, so from what I’ve seen I’d say in the range of $40-$60
Personally, I bury one of those cheap temperature & humidity measuring pieces that you can find at the pet store, put it right on the side of the glass where I can see it, straight at the bottom of the tank.
Hi, how does 'double clutch' work? We found our pair had 6 eggs... 2 hatched December 2019, and the other 4, a month later. We were trying to work out how that happened. We saw our pair mating 29 days ago, and the girl is looking fat, so we're expecting another clutch any time.. and want to be prepared if the same happens again 😃
Dear Ultimate Exotics Reptiles. What insect can we use as a cleanup crew in a bioactive terrarium for fire skinks (since they also have a warm and humid tropical style terrarium)? Springtails? Or isopods? Or larger milipedes? Or will adult fire skinks just decimate isopods and milipedes? Could springtails work? Or trying to add any kind of insect cleanup crew to a fire skink "lair" is just a bad idea? Can insect cleanup-crews hurt skinks after they have just shedded?
Ultimate Exotics Reptiles mine is short I don’t know why I just got it today and they said that’s the biggest they can get and it’s body was as long as my palm
Ethan Berg it depends. A 20-40 gallon is best. But u can do a 10-15 gallon as the dimensions of the floor surface are about the same as a 20 long. As long as u have 6+ inches of substrate for borrowing. They don’t need uvb if u use d3
I was quite excited to watch this video since I recently acquired a pair of these amazing animals. However, I was confused when some information in your video and the information in the link you provided contradicted each other. for example the video says they need 5 to 10 cm of substrate while the link states a minimum of 15 cm. Also, the video says they do not need UVB as long as food items are dusted with calcium and vitamin supplements, while the link states that they need UVB to process calcium. I am hoping for some clarification so that I can provide the best environment and husbandry for my animals. I did learn from your video that I was keeping their enclosure entirely too hot, and I am grateful for the more accurate information. I really enjoyed your video and especially enjoyed watching the hatchlings. Cheers.
Like you, I kept my 2yo female's tank too hot from some good ol' misinformation. I keep the temp gradient around 90 for basking and 70 on the cool side. I calcium dust every third feeding and use a UVB bulb with the basking light with the basking bulb on a dimmer. I used to use a UTH but I've found it's largely unnecessary
I dislike the chore of a water dish , so , i go with filtered ponds Take 2 dollar store plastic shoeboxes One to hold the place in the just as deep substrate And one you can frain and slip out to clean A small submersable filter or the dribble mouth turtle pond type of filter keeps it healthy Rest of enclosure filled with substrate and decor Low maintenance
Jesus loves you and died on a cross and rose three days later taking our place and paying our debt (for the wages of sin is death) so you can have eternal life and be forgiven of sin if you repent and pick up your cross and follow him daily
Their pattern looks like the flames you see in retro video games 😍
So awesome!
Ultimate Exotics Reptiles should I get a leopard gecko or a fire skink

Oh wow, those babies are tiny! Do you plan on breeding them to sell ever? I want to get one but I'm having trouble finding captive bred ones :(

Do you have any morphs?
How to you check the substrate humidity? How am I able to check that along with the surface humidity

superb!!!!
Wow really vibrant lizard!
Any suggestions for feeding. He eats very sparingly and little. Have tried cricket mealworms Sonia roaches?
CAREfull keeping these guys together, they breed readily.

Did you ever find an answer to this???
Is the care information provided for a fire skink the same for a common skink?
Good Evening

I think this boy was eating too many superworms!

ive heard a lot 40 gallon long

20 is the smallest but 40-50 gallons would be better

Looking for breeder. Can you suggest fire skink breeders based in or that can ship to the US?
Underground reptiles
My fire skinks must be SUPER BREEDERS because I ended up with 18. They laid a total of 23 eggs in all. 😳
Wow thats amazing, was that in one season?
@@UltimateExoticsReptiles Yes, that was this past season. It was their first clutch as well. They were laid and incubated inside their cage naturally.
My fire skink is literally a garbage disposal, it’ll eat pretty much anything a blue tongue skinks will eat.
