- Situated in the northeastern part of the state, about 2.5 hours east of Dallas and 4 hours north of Houston, Jefferson is one of the prettiest towns in the Texas. Once the second busiest port and the 6th largest town in the state, it boasts pre-Civil War homes and a rich history. It's a delight to walk around the town visiting the shops and museums. The lovely Excelsior House Hotel is the oldest continuously running hotel in the state (since 1858).

This is my home town. It was a wonderful place to grow up. Oh, and there are no ghosts.
I was there 47 years ago, in fact the sheriff was a friend of mine that served in Vietnam with me!
Got to love Texas this place is incredible
Beautiful vintage American neighborhoods. I hope the politicians don't start ruining these great historical gems.
A single welfare apartment will do it.

Haven’t been in years but love Jefferson
Love Texas!👍😉🇨🇦
Very nice place to visit.
A very unique town and well worth the visit.!!
Thank you for this video, very informative.
I have driven through this town. It’s like going back in time, beautiful💙🤍❤️
It's a long drive, but it's on my bucket list
I live near Jefferson and have been there many times. Great place to spend a day just walking around and looking at neat stuff. I can tell ya though, on Saturdays when the weather is nice, the place is packed with people! You'll enjoy it a lot more if you can make it there on a weekday. While in the area, I also recommend hopping in your car and driving 20 ish minutes to Caddo Lake State Park. Its like stepping back into prehistoric times. Caddo Lake is the only natural lake in the whole State of Texas.
I love this channel, it’s my bedtime stories
It has been over 50 + years sense being in Jefferson, and remembering taking the boat up the river from Uncertain going to the boat landing by the trestle, then walking up to the converted ice house for a meal at the restaurant run by Roy & Kay Butler.
Been there many times. A lively little town with interesting happenings. I usually stayed at the Excelsior Hotel . Always stopped at the big red building looking for items. If you couldn't find it there, it ain't going to be found. Good East Texas folks.
Wow! What a neat town. Thanks for sharing. I'll definitely have to check it out on my way back through Texas.
Visited here 25 years ago, had a lovely time. Don't know why I have not gone back. Have to fix that.
It's one of the most relaxing cool towns in Texas.
It is a neat town. I went up there this spring. I really enjoyed the Museum of Measurement & Time. I was there on a Sunday. Some places were closed. So I recommend checking out the town on a different day. Blackburn Syrup is also made there.
WOW! Time capsule!
Close to home and some really good places to eat
Our favorite getaway town of all! We’ve been to Jefferson four times a year for many years. Thanks for sharing!
The praline candies sold at the Jefferson General Store are incredibly delicious!
The town itself looks like an antique, as most small towns in Texas do.
I went there with friends from another East Texas community in the 1980s. Was so much fun! Had a "Blue plate lunch" for $2.99 at one of the cafes and had meat entree, beans, greens, biscuit, tea and pie included in that one low price - a bargain even then. Friendly tourism volunteers and residents. The town is like a living museum with some residents and a lot of tourist and artist shops.
I have a 1933 edition of Gone With the Wind, and it is fragile... it was my grandmother's.
My family live in a small town not to far from Jefferson. We had a thanksgiving get together 2 years ago family from Vegas and Colorado Springs and us from here on west Texas went. We ventured to Jefferson to see the renounced general store. By chance their Christmas parade happened that very evening. Was a fabulous place to spend family time
Is this East Texas,?
Yes, northeast Texas
How could you not mention that it is the most haunted town in Texas?
I do make a brief reference to a haunted house in the video, but yes I could have discussed the haunted aspects of the town more
Idek why I’m watching this when I’m perfectly fine with living in a big city aka San Antonio 😭🤣
Maybe because you wanna visit Jefferson?
@@danielr3661 Nope I was randomly recommended this video for whatever odd reason and I decided to watch it since at the time of my original comment I was bored asl
@@lifeisshrt7929 I bet haha, anyway it looks like a nice town to visit, i will consider it in my next visit to Dallas
