    Awe Donna, this yellow budgie you see me kissing on my yt profile pic is my dear Goldie ❤ he passed away from this very thing you've outlined in today's video. He was diagnosed by a vet when 8 years old. His tumor would bother him, but luckily for him this tumor would shrink and his illness symptoms would diminish. His brown cere stayed with him, but never seem to bother him. He had these episodes tumor bothering him about once a year, he lived to be 12 years old before this tumor took him. Goldie was one of my birds who bonded with me closely. So I can add to your video, that these tumors can shrink, if they're lucky, and still have an enriched life with you... one would know by their improved health between tumor flairups. Thank you for this very informative video. ❤🐥 I miss my Goldie ❤

    Donna, Thank you for making the episode with this subject. I lost my 15 year-old Chipp last year with the "brown cere". His cere turned brown 3 years before he passed. He was doing fine until about 3 weeks before he passed. He was not tamed so it was the first time that I felt him when he was really struggling and took him to the vet. The vet did not recommend x-ray or abrasive exams because he was old enough and too weak at that point but extracted fluid from his body that was making his breathing difficult. No cancerous cells were identified from his fluid but the brown cere obviously indicated his having testicular problems. He also made sure that not having found anything in his fluid did not mean that he did not have cancer, either due to such a small amount that was extracted. He gave him an anti biotic injection and extracted some more body fluid in 30 minutes after the first one. Chipp looked much more comfortable and came home with me. I gave him a quick warm bath and massage that night. He passed shortly after that. He was not struggling or suffering. He seemed just too weak to go on at that point. I just hoped that he had a good life with his 7 other flock mates. After he was showing symptoms of illness, I observed closely and noticed that his abdomen was swollen as if he had eaten too much. If he had been tamed, I would have noticed much earlier about his swollen belly and could have had him examined much earlier to my regret. I just lost another parakeet last Friday. He was 14 year old. His cere turned brown 6 years ago just about 2 months long though. He slept a lot then but his cere turned back to bright blue and it stayed blue until he passed 3 days ago. His x-ray and symptoms showed that he had problems in his liver. He did not eat and mostly slept all day. He lost weight and I force-fed him with a syringe a couple times until he gained enough strengths to be able to eat on his own. He had a weekly anti-biotic injection and oral meds every 12 hours 6 weeks long 2 months ago. He recovered well enough so he became fairly normal but suddenly he stopped eating and had typical droppings when parakeets did not eat enough. Those were bright green and runny. I fed him with a syringe again and gave him the liver meds that he was on 6-week long previously. He lost weight so quickly and his feet were cold. This time, I knew his time had come. He was showing all the signs that he would not last that I have seen in many birds that passed. I kept him with me all the time that night. He was having a bit of bite here and there so often. He was not suffering but just weak. He passed in his sleep. He looked peaceful and kind as he always was. I hope that his life here was good. I still have 7 parakeets today. I do often think how hard it will be that I must see them go one by one 7 more times. They really are like children to me. They give me lots of joy, love, kindness, and emotional challenges. I only hope for good quality life as long as they live.

    I had no idea this could happen. This is super informative. I hope my male budgie doesn’t get testicular cancer, but I will now know what to look for if it happens. I try to take extremely good care of my sweet little birdies, and want to know exactly what’s going on with them.
    I have a female budgie whose cere has gone from crusty brown to pink with no crust. I think she’s about 8 years old, and I assume this means she’s no longer fertile. I didn’t realize that male budgies ceres could change color with hormonal changes after adulthood also

    thank you for this very informative video! I had no idea that male budgies were that prone to cancer. I just got a male budgie this past year because I was trying to avoid a potential egg-binding situation with a female budgie. My budgie is just over a year old now. I will keep watching his cere for any changes as he ages. Thanks again for making this video and I am so sorry about your two budgies!

    My male budgie just turned 5 yo. And I noticed that his cere keeps changing color it changes from very dark brown to pink so I don't know if its cancer or if its something hormonal 😢

    My most wonderful budgie, Ginko, died in precisely this way. His cere turned brown, our other male began attacking him, and he lost the use of his leg. Once the leg went lame, he lived about another month. His final month was obviously a struggle for him, but he always seemed happy, right until the end. I held him as he passed away.

      If you knew your other bird was bullying your sick, why didn't you keep them separate, that's the least you could have done for him to comfort him and give him the last days of his life.

    • @TPBGR

    I think the safest way to determine gender by sight is by the budgie behavior. Males and females are so distinctively different.

    Would love to see more videos about beak health for birds. My budgies beak is much darker than your budgies. It's also flaking.
    She's on pellets as well as fruits and veggies. Doesn't get any seed except those in nutriberries.

    I thought my budgie was a male when she was young because she had a light blue cere. Then just before she turned 1, her cere turned brown. I was shocked! She seems fine, but now I have 2 females in a large cage, but they bicker. I think they do like each other but I have to buy them 2 of everything.

    So the brown cere doesn't necessarily mean they have testicular cancer, but possibly a hormone imbalance? Yes, euthanasia is the worst part of any pet ownership. It is necessary to keep a pet from needless suffering, though. Pets and our bonds with them are temporary, and all we can do is enjoy our joy and time with them as much as possible.

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  Рік тому

      That's correct but there is a high chance that it's a tumor

      It's possible that they have tumors. They act normal. Sterlings cere is more brown then Jack's. Jack's cere seems to be turning more blue so he may be okay.

    What was the avian vet diagnosis for your male birds in the video?

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  5 місяців тому +2

      My vet said it could be a tumor or hormonal unbalance. She recommended not to do an xray as it will stress him and doing surgery is to risky. They budgies in this video are doing fine but still have brown ceres.

    • @TPBGR
      @TPBGR 3 місяці тому

      The chop you make especially with the legumes (cooked beans/lentils that you need to soak overnight then cook the next day) are excellent for tumors or hormonal problems. As are broccoli, swish chard, kale, carrots, butternut squash. A little garlic won’t hurt them. The most powerful thing you can give them to kill tumors is colloidal silver. Just put a teaspoon or two in their drinking water or replace their drinking water with colloidal silver for max effect. Research shows beans/lentils, the aforementioned vegetables, and colloidal silver all kill cancer cells.

    Oh my, I had to check out my male budgie, and the cere is blue (9 and a half years old), so that's a relief. I can see Sterling's cere is brown, and can see Jack's turning brown; guess it has to be watched now. Hopefully, it may just be hormonal imbalance. You have such nice budgies. Very informative video, although, I'm not feeling good about it; C'est la vie.
