Is It Possible to Beat Super Mario Galaxy 2 Without Collecting Any Star Bits? No Star Bits Challenge

- Опубліковано 26 вер 2024
- Recently I attempted to beat Super Mario Galaxy without collecting any star bits. Now it's time to take on the sequel. In this video I'm going to try to beat Super Mario Galaxy 2 without collecting any star bits.
Is it possible? I guess we'll find out.
If you want to see the footage of me beating all of the levels mentioned in this vide click the following link.

You can avoid the world map big star bit because you can move away from the star bits as they shatter from the big star bit and move to the portal behind you so the small bits that chase you don't follow you through may take a lot of trys to do so though
Really ? If this is true that is amazing !
GET THIS PINNED
Soo... After I read this theory, I instantaneously went and checked if it was possible. Well, the fact that the portal cancels the star bits before they are collected is true. However, I don't think it's possible with this particular starbit thingy. I've tried the same trick with several other Starbit thingies across the world map, and I've come to the conclusion that you can avoid the starbits for at least 4 spaces on the world map before they get you. Sadly, to get back to the portal to World 1, you need to move *5* spaces. Which made this impossible... at least for me. Maybe there is some maneuvering trick to it that I haven't realized yet, that can make you avoid the star bits for at least 1 more space, but I'm no expert. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If this is possible you are a gaming god
@@onimaku436 I've managed to get pretty close, but one thing that seems to happen is it cuts the corner at Puzzle Plank. I've tried multiple times and while you can do the one to the left of hightail faIls easily, the one on the right is...
Probably impossible.
I say probably because I was able to get pretty close to the portal. They tend to get you at or just after Puzzle Plank, where they cut the corner and grab you. However, I managed to get past Puzzle Plank and almost to the dot between it and the portal. This leads me to think that with perfect timing and movements, you could make it. But until someone does it or makes a TAS of it, we may never know.
That run of The Shadow Lining was truly inspiring, well done
I liked how he showed all 16 attempts at once
Imagine if he got 50 star bits for beating it

Too bad there was a glitch to prevent the clones from spawning, you would just have to very slowly walk into the launch star chips, but there was no way he would've known.
I just found your first super Mario galaxy no starbit run, then I go back to my recommended to find this. Made my night.

Yeah, no lie he put some effort into this vid
How could we make him more popular other than like and subscribe? If the Algorithms Overlords don't find him either obnoxious or rich enough, they just disract the viewers with cats, trolls, saxophone playing seals, before they could look up his channel? There's also Facebook but none of my friends are interested in gaming, especially one they do not understand.

I was literally watching the first one as this came out.
It’s still hard not to cry at the end of the first one.
Just got to the end, this is redemption for super Mario galaxy 1.
mario weighs 196.211 pounds, it takes about 6 mins to get rid of 8 star bits worth of the "candy" that mario collects by running, if he ran at with all the running around at 11 mph which is double the recommended around, im sure you spent more then 3 minutes in game running around right? i hope you did because if not let me show you to the world of speedrunning my friend...
also good job mario lost weight still, his diet can probably reach 50 starbits till its a bit normal, after that though his eating would be excessive

Just like with "Can you beat New Super Mario Bros U. Without pressing Left/Right?" Ceave Gaming made 2 categories of those presses. Meta Left/Right Press and Gameplay Left/Right Press. Meat presses are presses in the world map. Gameplay presses are obviously in levels itself. And Ceave Gaming didn't counted Meta Left/Right presses but still tried to minimize it. Even if he had Meta Left/Right presses he still said that "Yes, it is possible". In your situation you colleted 8 Meta Star Bits and 0 Gameplay Star Bits. If you make just like Ceave Gaming, then it is possible.
The difference is, there is no "right press" counter built into the NSMB games, but there is a starbit counter in the Galaxy games, so you can't split it into categories.
@@LiveHedgehog fuck, i just tried to cheer him up
I love me some meat presses xD
@@LiveHedgehog Just cause the game tracks them doesn't mean we can't differentiate them
@@readyorgormotti4714 They all contribute to the counter. If you're going to separate them just because they're on the world map, you might as well have a separate counter for each level.
What Ceave (and Mayro) have done with Meta right/left presses is fine, because they are the ones creating the counter. The main gameplay is the levels, the world map is just a way to get to them. Differentiating between the different types of presses is fine because it's important to make the distinction that there are presses required to move to levels, or to enter pipes in the levels. Those presses are a necessity for continuing the game but don't contribute to the challenge in a meaningful way (as in, pressing right isn't making the game any easier in these cases) so it's fair to label them differently.
But the Galaxy games have something that actively tracks your jumps (much like Odyssey's many counters) and so if you want to do a low-starbit run, you have to go by that counter, otherwise the challenge is trivialised. Just because they're (most likely) unavoidable, it doesn't mean they should be ignored.
TLDR; If you're given a counter in game and decide to ignore it and create your own separate one just to keep the number at 0, then there's no point doing the challenge in the first place. Sometimes you can't finish the game starbitless.
I like your style of editing. You know how to keep a moment tense, and you withhold certain pieces of information until they make the biggest splash. This run kept me at the edge of my seat until the very end. I’m so glad I found this channel. You are destined for great things, my friend.

Very true. Final score: 8 meta starbits, 0 gameplay starbits. :)
They’re actually avoidable if you rush into the world one portal.
mineben256 I actually discovered it accidentally after trying to collect the crystal in world 1 before the starbits in world 2 could be collected.
In other words: I was going too fast for the starbits to follow.
@@theheavilysaltededgelord7896 dude message him! He needs to make another video.
I don’t know if anyone has said this yet, but I think you might be able to outrun the starbits on the world map if you immediately move starship Mario to the left and through the portal to the previous world. I haven’t tried this myself in that particular area, but I know I’ve done it before on some areas of the map. It might be worth a shot
Another comment mentioned this, but according to them, they were only ever able to avoid the star bits for 4 spaces, and the star bits he will need to avoid are 5 spaces away from the portal. It could be possible, but it would take a trick or two.
I've tried. It might be possible, but I couldn't get to the portal in time.
Yes it does work
Maybe a TAS could do it.
Is there a video of someone completing this? I’m trying to do my own run.
I literally just watched the first one for the first time 5 minutes before you uploaded this one

You should try to beat LEGO Star Wars with no studs. It’s also funny I stumbled on the first video in this series a literal hour after this one released
Oh my gosh that's a great idea!
How would he become a true Jedi then?
Great Idea. LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga was one of the first videogames i played. Did you know that the developers accidentally put 11 instead of 10 minikits in one specific level? It was very funny when i got them all, The counter said "11/11 Minikits"
I’ve actually tried this and found that very few levels were possible to do studless.
I really enjoyed the way you presented this one.
(Ringless on Sonic might be interesting due to the way rings operate as the means of tanking damage in Sonic as well as being the collectable, essentially forcing an (almost) two for one challenge)
Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom without any shiny objects could be interesting. It’s an underplayed PS2/GameCube/Xbox platformer, where the main goal is to collect golden spatulas, socks, and shiny objects. You need 75/100 golden spatulas to complete it, but it could be possible. However, defeating enemies magnets shiny objects onto you, so those may need to be counted in the same vain as the unavoidable starbit cluster on the world map. I love these videos. Keep it up!
Edit: A low shiny object run (lowest amount of shiny objects possible to beat the game) would be more plausible
Its not underrated, there are a lot people who love this game...
There's also the clams that require shiny objects
If I remember correctly don't you need them for certain story missions so it would be impossible

That set up for the shadow lining was beautiful. The music plus the 16 runs was really cool and it gave me chills. Really well done!
I just finished the SMG1 no star bits video and went to check if there was one for SMG2 only to see it was uploaded while I was watching the first one. Crazy timing and super enjoyable vids
Oh God, first climbing the slope in the first starbitless video, and now the walljumping running from the shadows. Freaking chills.
This reminds me of Ceave/GameChamp/Mayro but is just different enough to be entertaining (not saying their videos aren't interesting).
Yeah, this is a really cool and interesting way of doing things; it seems to take something from each while still feeling like it's own thing! I love the fact that it goes in full detail of all of the problems that lie ahead. It's also somewhat refreshing seeing a longer video, and it really doesn't have to go too far in order to be funny, since the layout of these videos are interesting enough to keep me watching.
I get what you mean, those tubers are good but pretty similar with their recent content
I enjoyed GameChamps videos, his were quite original, but recently it seems everyone else has jumped on the bandwagon, and honestly, most of the videos, while still entertaining, feel a little lacking in real effort and motivation. They are kind of beating a dead horse, taking every single Mario game and doing them multiple times with little difference in the format. Every Ceave Gaming video, for example, is barely memorable, and they all sort of blur together. CMeeCraft is an exception though, partially because he’s a small UA-camr, only 4K subs (at the moment, I hope he grows), but also because he’s genuine with his content, he seems to put a lot of effort into it. I hope he continues to make videos like this, and by like this, I mean not just these challenge videos, but also other content in this similar heavily edited style, I really enjoy them.
Sayori James eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Waluigigoeswa actually found a way around the world map star bits. Here's what normally happens:
1. Fly to the star crystal. Star bits go to Starship Mario.
2. The count goes from 0 to 8.
3. 8-0=8, so 8 star bits were collected.
Alternatively, try this:
1. Withdraw 9999 star bits from Banktoad. Because Banktoad is allied with you, you already had them, you were just moving them around.
2. Fly to the star crystal. Star bits go to Starship Mario.
3. The count goes from 9999 to 9999.
4. 9999-9999=0, so 0 star bits were collected.
5. Give the 9999 star bits back to Banktoad.
Note that you cannot do this for normal level star bits, since levels have their own counters, and you can't fill that counter using Banktoad.
Man this game is almost 9 years old now! Thats just crazy to me.
Mike Gibbs I know even the graphics feel maybe 3-4 y/o at the most and quality feels modern standard ( at least for Nintendo
This game and the first one are my childhood summed up
A quick tip for any future challenge run to help preserve your sanity: don't insta-quit if you fail a level. Try to go through the rest of the it to either see if there are further difficulties/impossibilities and even to git gud at them, only then quite before saving. It's less purist, sure, but it definitely helps.
That post-credits closure to the SMG1 run though!! Incredible work here, what a journey this was.
As for suggestions, would it be possible to beat The Legend of Zelda (NES) without collecting any Rupees? Any Zelda game would be cool, but the first game seems like a good place to start.
Regardless, I look forward to your next challenge video!
Wait, what do you mean by that first sentence?
In his SMG1 challenge video, he was forced to collect a single star bit in the final level. However, the stinger for this video shows that he was able to skip that star bit, leaving the counter at 105.
Hope that clears things up :)
The Bow and Arrow item in the first Zelda used Rupees as ammunition. Since certain bosses (including Ganon himself) require either the normal Arrows or Silver Arrows to beat, I can tell you off the bat that that is impossible
@@jetstreamjackie3437 Which also means that the literal only star bits in the run that he had to collect were mandatory tutorial ones.

That compilation was the most intense thing I have EVER SEEN. I seriously thought it wasn't going to be possible. Good job! =)>
This video was really impressive, but if I could offer a bit of critique, I would say that listing every single level in each world was a bit much. Maybe it would be better to display the names on screen then only say out loud the ones that gave you trouble. Again, this is my only criticism. The rest of the video really enjoyable to watch. :)
Personally I was fine with all of them being called out.
He just tells us what is required to beat the challenge.
Perhaps he said these to potentially foreshadow that he'll only get to 68, only to find the solution, only to be let down
I actually enjoy that he lists them off. Makes you understand how much time and effort he spent on beating the game like this.
Agreed, just say "here's all the levels I played for this chapter" and show them all on the screen, then point out the problem ones.
I now hope this will become an official speedrun category

There might be a way to avoid the star bits on the world map. If you notice, there is a short span of time between crashing into the star and actually collecting them. There might be a way to time a game save where it saves in between crashing and collecting.
I gotta say, despite your voice being a tad on the quiet side, I found your commentary here a fair bit better than the first one.
It was nice that you touched on challenging Stars as they came rather than saying "we'll come back to this later."

Just found the channel with the first Mario galaxy video, and I really love what you do here. It makes me want to try some absurd challenge in a game soon, here's hoping all yours go well
I know other people are doing it right now, but just because of the way your videos are put together, why not do some coinless challenges on some other Mario games. Maybe do a coinless challenge on Super Mario Galaxy. In those games, coins are your main form of health regeneration, and not touching one during big fights and boss battles would be a challenge. Plus no one has done a coinless run on Super Mario Galaxy as far as I can tell, so you would be the first person to do it, and you wouldn't be stealing or copying someone else's video. That's just my suggestion, and I hope that maybe you'll do it in the future. I've always wanted to see someone do a coinless challenge for Super Mario Galaxy. Anyway, great video man😀👍
@Spaceman Alph true. But I still want to see it nonetheless
SMG coinless is being/has been done.
Ayy! I really liked the video, there's a couple of people doing these videos now, and they are all extremely my jam, and I think the whole genre can only be better by introducing more good content creators to it! In comparison to your first video, I'd like to say I think the level presentation was greatly improved, mixing the lists of what levels were easy enough to not be mentioned, with the ones that are, world by world, helped with the pacing issue in the first episode, and the montage section of this one was better than the already great one in the first, the addition of seeing multiple runs at once and seeing which do and dont survive is really great at conveying just how much time the run takes! If I can make one sugegstion, it would be to work on your vocals a bit more, as someone whose struggled a lot with it in the past, you tend to speak like you're almost half whispering, speaking up a little, if possible, might really help, also there were one or two takes where you stumbled a bit on your words, which might have been a good idea to retake. But other than that, I can't wait to see where you go with all this, and I'm super glad to hear you want to expand to other games!
SONIC WITH NO RINGS! SONIC WITH NO RINGS!
That would also be a damageless run, interestingly
well mostly yes, but shields are a thing
i felt really bad that he didn’t know you could outrun the map starbits
a hat in time without collecting pons
this does not include heart pons, as the bosses automatically give you heart pons on certain transitions to phases.
This format is so similar and blowing up at the time but this feels so different and better, with clever and interesting editing and a not annoying and almost soothing voice like markiplier it's something you can watch to enjoy it not to just to watch it, your not checking the bar for when the videos over your actually enjoying it, but if you don't like it your entitled to your opinion but this is the kind of youtuber I'd want to be, not giant but charming, and standing out with good content, keep it up man.
This was so fun to watch! It clearly shows you put a lot of thought into your video and i hope you get recognized more and maybe even a shoutout or something from bigger channels if you keep this up, I'll admit i was astounded by some of the tricks you pulled off there too ^^ anyways I'll see you in your next video!
I KNEW THAT ONE STAR BIT CLUSTER WOULD SCREW THE ENTIRE RUN UP, I KNEW IT FROM THE BEGINNING. Also very nice editing btw I still have no idea how you only have 3,900 subs. I subbed after the first vid I saw which was the mario galaxy one star bit run.

Why don't you do what Ceave Gaming did and call the mandatory starbits that are unavoidable 'meta' starbits, as in they are required to beat the game, but they aren't in a actual level? This would technically shave these 8 off and the mandatory few from the first game, minus that stupid hungry luma.
Also, there might be a way to avoid them by moving to a different world before they touch you. One of my favorite things to do in the game was see how long I could go without letting those star bits touch me. I've gotten at least 3 markers before I got touched before, so maybe, just maybe.
Also, great job making the comet dramatic. I thought I was watching a final boss right the whole time, and I couldn't wait to see the end of it :D

Honey Queen: "My kingdom's near impossible to avoid star bits in!" Bowser: "So?! My Galaxy Generator has a star bit you _can't_ dodge!" ?: "Ameteurs." HQ + B: "What was that, punk?" Mailtoad: _"Ameteurs."_
24:42 For every Great War or Honeyhive level, there is a Second World War or Shadow Lining level to follow. Good luck ever replicating this solution, guys.
He got to Bowser with only 8 star bits. But can he do better?
CMeeCraft, I present to you, a challenge so out there it will probably be the bane of your existence: the star bit-less completionist's run.
The goal is as follows: you must beat every star in the game with as few star bits as humanly possible. This can include Green Stars and Grand Master Galaxy, but both are equally optional. The run ends when you collect the last star.
Here are some things you could do to shake it up:
You could give each Galaxy and/or individual Star a difficulty ranking from 1 to 11, with 11 being reserved for the most difficult Star in the entire run and thus only being used once.
You could make categories of star bits, with ones in letters and on the world map being meta star bits, and ones in Galaxies being gameplay star bits.
Oh, and please keep the screen. I like that screen.
I'm very tired and don't have the energy to give like, a good comment? But I've been getting really into your videos lately. They slap! The shadow lining is honestly like .. I FELT that. I was there. The tension was real. A+ stuff.
Actually you can avoid those 4 annoying stars in World 2's map; you just have to get out of the map as fast as possible (by going really fast to World 1's map) once you touch the giant starbit. It shouldn't reappear when you return to World 2's map, so you can freely pass
Awesome video, man! Keep up this amazing work! Perhaps there are some more challenges you could try in the Galaxy games like collecting no coins or a challenge with some sort of limited move set like no regular jumping or no use of the z button.
I watched "Is It Possible to Beat Super Mario Galaxy Without Collecting Any Star Bits? No Star Bits Challenge" yesterday, and then see this in my recommended today. You've got a really great editing style which makes the videos a lot of fun to watch and your voice isn't nails on a chalkboard (yes, this is a compliment, lol). I've gone ahead and subscribed, and look forward to seeing more videos.
Beats Shadow Lining: (silent with amazement.)
8 star bit run: (Screams into pillow)
I like that your videos have genuine suspense. I recall when Ceave wasn't able to do 3D Land coinless, he revealed it in the title.
May I suggest the concept of "meta" starbits?
I still think you beat this one without collecting star bits in my book. You have my respect sir.
