I've always loved the end. The same thing happened to our choir. Everyone stood up to applaud... and then realized we weren't quite done. I almost died laughing.
I can't believe it's been 15 years now, almost 16 (Jan 2002), since this performance. I was in this choir and it's still one of the musical highlights of my life.
I sang this song while I was at the National High School Music Institute at Northwestern University. I had the honor of being selected to sing the tenor solo. What a Great Summer!!!
I sang this for the WELS National conference of Worship, Music, and the Arts. (July 2011) I was in the National Honors Choir. (All High school aged) We didn't really like the song at first but the more we sang it we loved it and we still talk about it getting stuck in our heads! :) Wonderful job, we used this version as a preference when learning on our own!
i performed this 4-5 years ago in my high school choir and im so suprised that i remember the words and the timing of everything this has to be one of my favorites
Yeah, ..it's called polyphony.. with a nice fugue at the end! Welcome to the Baroque! I guess I'm missing the joke... 'cause this is just what was done at that time. AND IT WAS AMAZING!!
The harmony in this song is BRILLIANT. My favorite part is the alto solo, myself. Not 100% sure why, but I think it's that I like just the lone voice singing out the beautiful slur throughout that entire phrase.
My daughter is currently learning this song so she can audition for the 2025 NMMEA All-State choir. She's a sophomore, and they haven't performed it since 2002 (my sophomore year!)
I sung this song earlier this year.! Great job guys! The sopranos were a little pitchy at times and the men were sharp towards the end but GREAT job! Great HARMONY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it! Very powerful and Strong!....
This is a beautiful piece, and a beautiful rendition to go with. I'm a Tenor 1 in the Lancaster-Lebanon Music Educators Association Chorus, and we are doing the piece for 2015. I might try for the solo. The alto solo bugged me, though. Not that she wasn't a great singer, but...she has pitch problems. Sorry. The other soli were wonderful, though. Good on you for performing this with your state chorus.
Axel E. Blair Judging from other choirs I've heard do this piece; the alto solo is quite difficult. It sounds to me like this girl was just nervous when singing her solo though.
I agree, on top of that, the balance is not good at all. But they are interpreting it very well, and the dynamic contrast is very well done, but you are right, they are very flat, and that was one of the first things that i noticed.
Soprano soloist you are AMAZING!!....you are a Charlotte Church type timber to you voice very consistent and not over done....Baritone your solo in this is actually the solo part that should sound more vibrant than the other solos (not just because I am one) but didnt hear that here and the rest....Alto solo very shaky....choir BRILLIANT!
Salve o mestre MARTINI que bebeu na fonte musical dos mestres VIVALDI e LOTTI...O Padre Martini foi mestre de Harmonia e Composição de Mozart e de muitos outros! TRADUTOR: Save The master MARTINI who drank from the musical fountain of masters VIVALDI and LOTTI...Father Martini was master of Harmonia and Composition by Mozart and many others!
nah, didnt have sound recording devices back then ;) Actually we were offered to purchase cassette tapes and records back then, but I was saving my quarters to play Defender and BattleZone... I feel kinda stupid now. ... and EVERYTIME we performed this song... the audience would clap too early!!!
To start I Love the contrast in the start... different from what I've ever heard it performed.. the Bass solo could have been more assertive! I LOVE the alto solo (my fav. part of song) could have been more assertive!! Dynamics distinguished very clearly! I would have like the tenors to cresendo more on end
I've always loved the end. The same thing happened to our choir. Everyone stood up to applaud... and then realized we weren't quite done. I almost died laughing.
Oh gosh, I hope that doesn't happen to us this year
This happened to me too oh my lord! XD
As well for my choir lol
I can't believe it's been 15 years now, almost 16 (Jan 2002), since this performance. I was in this choir and it's still one of the musical highlights of my life.
This is still such a strong recording.
I love the power of the basses..and their diction as a whole is way better than I've heard in other recordings. good attempt by the alto soloist
I'm a bass and I love this song for my voice so much
Same
I TOTALLY SANG IN THIS CHOIR! WOOOO!!!!! TENORS FOREVER!
This song slaps so hard. God. I remember singing it and I just love the playfulness of it. Such an earworm

Our Varsity chorus did this at our school, I fell in love with this song.
I sang this song while I was at the National High School Music Institute at Northwestern University. I had the honor of being selected to sing the tenor solo. What a Great Summer!!!

I get to sing this for the first time!!! It's so awesome!!!!
Probably the best interpreted version of this piece. I’m not as sensitive to pitch problems but it was a bit noticeable at first.
Awesome, thanks for putting this up! I was in this choir :) Love it!!!
I was part of the Arkansas All Regional Choir that performed this piece about 2 or 3 years back.......always such a beautiful piece.
and that's exactly why you're not supposed to clap until the conductor turns around
i performed this 4-5 years ago in my high school choir and im so suprised that i remember the words and the timing of everything this has to be one of my favorites
we are singing this in choir and i pretty much love this song :)
11 years later hope this song always finds you well
These latin pieces love their staggered entries lmfao
Yeah, ..it's called polyphony.. with a nice fugue at the end! Welcome to the Baroque! I guess I'm missing the joke... 'cause this is just what was done at that time. AND IT WAS AMAZING!!
Just sang this in my District Chorus last week. We struggled with it in rehearsals, but we finally got it for the concert. It was awesome.
The harmony in this song is BRILLIANT. My favorite part is the alto solo, myself. Not 100% sure why, but I think it's that I like just the lone voice singing out the beautiful slur throughout that entire phrase.

this is beast !!!! my choir did this song almost the same way , its amazing, gives me chills listening to it
its weird to think that this isn't even an 8 part song, it's only 4 parts....crazy that the harmony is just SO chilling.
We're performing this for our choir concert tomorrow :)
TMEA!!!! Can’t wait!
It was freaking amazing!
I swear the audience always ALWAYS breaks into applause before the actual ending
That goes without saying. They're fantastic.

I'm a tenor 1 as well and we are doing this price
Axel E. Blair Judging from other choirs I've heard do this piece; the alto solo is quite difficult. It sounds to me like this girl was just nervous when singing her solo though.
I agree, the alto needs some work...
I agree, on top of that, the balance is not good at all. But they are interpreting it very well, and the dynamic contrast is very well done, but you are right, they are very flat, and that was one of the first things that i noticed.
that alto solo...
it's gorgeous! but the alto solo drove me nuts. did she turn some of the sixteenth notes into grace notes on purpose or was she just off?
We do have recordings, but I haven't had the time to post it yet! I will let you know when we do. :)
I got it!!! ;) yay!
wait but i needa learn this wheres just a soprano part :(
I wish I could get ahold of the cd we made in 2002, or showfest 2002. (we = The Moriarty Messengers)
I’m a tenor, but I still think 2:27 is the best part 😅
By far my favorite song NWHS concert Choir has performed. :) We need Taylor Chew's beatbox in the backgrond for the remix :)
CMEA All State
@sexyking19
yes, Yes, YES!!! I am as old as original dirt.... but even old music never loses its power and it never will.
@sexyking19 damn thats really young to sing a intense song like this compared to many
my all county chorus sang this song and we kicked its ass XD
That song is unbelievably fun to sing! And lol at the audience getting PWNT by clapping too early =P
Salve o mestre MARTINI que bebeu na fonte musical dos mestres VIVALDI e LOTTI...O Padre Martini foi mestre de Harmonia e Composição de Mozart e de muitos outros! TRADUTOR: Save The master MARTINI who drank from the musical fountain of masters VIVALDI and LOTTI...Father Martini was master of Harmonia and Composition by Mozart and many others!
ha, the audience was very eager to clap ...
My high school chorus slaughtered this piece.
This recording is amazing!! Great text inflection, good tone, the soprano solo is a bit "nya nya nya", but otherwise fantastic!
nah, didnt have sound recording devices back then ;)
Actually we were offered to purchase cassette tapes and records back then, but I was saving my quarters to play Defender and BattleZone... I feel kinda stupid now.
... and EVERYTIME we performed this song... the audience would clap too early!!!
Lol @ the audience clapping before they were over omg hahaha
That tenor Sounds different. I don't know what it is but its different.
In the next Assassin's Creed I play, I want to hear this song sung when I walk into a Cathedral.
To start I Love the contrast in the start... different from what I've ever heard it performed.. the Bass solo could have been more assertive! I LOVE the alto solo (my fav. part of song) could have been more assertive!! Dynamics distinguished very clearly! I would have like the tenors to cresendo more on end
We are singing this for region, and it will most likely be a selected piece for state as well.
@isingthr4iam hell yea, tenors will rule the world one day! if altos dont plague us first!. (lol jk) yea we are singing this actually, awesome piece.
*cough* Tyler Oakley *cough cough*
great song!
I guess I'm a little biased as well, my school is singing this. I'm alto 1. These guys are pretty great, though...
HAHAH the audienced clapped too early! ours didnt....
did the soprano soloist mess up the first solo or am i making that up
arkansas.
@sexyking19 Oh no its a good thing. I really like it. Thats whats different. : P
You have to solfege the song?
look competing for this solo then baritone vs bass 2 hmmm
I'm sorry, but I'm suuuuper sensitive to pitches, and the choir in general is just really flat
It's kind of a pain for me to listen to >
@sexyking19 lol me either
LOL I love it when audiences clap at the wrong time. Here's a clue: WATCH THE DIRECTOR
killian singers sang this
