Absolutely wonderful acting. These are amongst some of the best scenes of the show. "A pity". I agree. Xu Zhu is closer to Buddhahood and enlightenment than all the righteous leaders condemning him through his dalliance with the outside world and begging true forgiveness and redemption. The irony is that the outsiders in the room recognize it, but the righteous monks are blind to it. At least the abbot hints at some understanding whwn he talks about all the other temples in the world - not here, but there.

This was always my favorite parts of this epic, this remake is new to me! I watched most of the older versions that I can find. I always look forward to this part of the series. Sometimes i skip over the other stories (there is 3 story interwoven from 3 different POV) just to follow this monk’s story.
