This has been a hit for a few months now here in the Netherlands (where they're from). This song gives me goosebumps every time. And on my bad days, it makes me cry. Sort of in a good way, but still.... Di-rect has been around for years and years. When I was younger (and they too😉) I found them a little "lightweight". But especially since this singer replaced the previous one years ago, they've (in my opinion) hughly evolved. In lyrics, in music, in everything. In my opinion, they just keep getting better and better as the years go by. Like a well-aging wine or cheese😉
Although I do enjoy 'Soldier On', I personally have the opposite opinion regarding their current music compared to how they were back when Tim Akkerman was their lead singer. I _much_ prefer the heavier rock sound of the old Di-rect to the new Di-rect. But, to each their own. And as I said, this is still definitely a good song.
Every day is a battle but every day I wake up soldier on. My MS is progressing but I fight for my new normal and never give up. Watching your reaction videos make my day. Thank you for sharing with us.
I might have been to this venue, not sure as I think it was called het paard, it was definitely in Den Haag and it would have been around 1995-1997 as I had a friend, she was also English, who lived there. We went to see the Twinkle Brithers. Time went by very quickly or the venue closed relatively early but it was a great evening.
After working in a homeless ministry for a number of years and seeing so many homeless veterans this song pointedly sums up the message we tried to get through to them. To be honest I did cry with this song. India, soldier on.
There are so many homeless people online now. I follow them every day. My friend passed away last year but from college until then, he got up every morning and he kept track of where every homeless person in our capital city lived. He had all of their addresses.
I am also a veteran but my problems are not service connect... just an unlucky life. Sometimes, no matter how deep you dig within ones self, you just come up empty and you can't just "soldier on" and that is when it all comes crashing down on you. I know the artists means well but sometimes words are just words and they are gone as soon as they are spoken.
although they just seem just ''words'' i just wanna say to you.. soldier on.!!!. words are just words. but its the only thing they can be spoken by people that don,t know. its sounds hard, but you have to give them some slack.. they don,t know any better. this is about dutch veterans as well. and they have been founded out by the screbenica disaster as well. even though that was nato confirmed, they where left behind.. people try to soldier on, any wich way they can. its what this song is made for., its was not made for you to them understand what you where going tru but just that they know that what you went true, is something you have to try to handle. they don,t know because they haven,t served.. its just that they tried to help the dutchies THAT served on veterans day...
