This is an excellent video on the daily grooming and care of a Bouvier, especially for humans new to this breed. Finally someone has discussed and demonstrated how to keep the Vulva and Anus clean and how to trim. This is so necessary with a Bouvier, regardless of how long/short their hair. With my female Bouv, the incidence of urinary tract infection diminished greatly once I was shown by my Vet how to keep this area clean by rinsing daily with water and trimming. Thank you again.

Great video Carin. Starting as a puppy, I brushed my Bouv, then as a reward we'd go for a walk in the woods or a ride in the truck. It didn't take too long before he started bringing me the slicker brush, as if to say "let's get this brushing business over with, so we can go play!" He was very independent minded, but when he wanted something, he'd let you know in a very direct way. Bouviers are smart. Gary in North Texas.

Thank you, Carin, for putting this video on youtube. Although we keep our Bouviers' coats trimmed fairly short because of the heat and ticks (we live in the tropics), the tips on the trimming around the feet were helpful. You have a lovely girl there :-)

This is *exactly* why I have a working-line Bouvier -she doesn't have 1/10 that amount of hair (like how ALL the old Dutch Police Bouviers looked). >=^)
I think it's nice that you took the time to put this video together to help people out. Your dog is pretty cute!

Thank you, very clear information. We have just rescued a three year old Bouvier Bernois which is what the French call a Bernese Mountain dog. Your video has given me all the info to start grooming this sadly, very neglected dog. I think I may have to do some cutting out of the really hard matted areas.
    Happy New Year!

Im my experience it's: chase bouvier around house, pin him down cuz he thinks you're playing, get a hind foot in the throat, get chinned by his enormous bulletproof head, cut self with scissors, release bouvier... repeat

You are very rough with your dog, I have a bouvier as well (puppy, just a year and 1 month) and I have to be very gentle because she otherwise bites me (not very hard) to get me to stop. She’s never gotten a hair cut (only her face to get hair out of her eyes and toes) I don’t like the look of short hair on bouviers so I keep it long (I also bath her myself because the groomers was costing to much and they were leaving behind mats and I was just paying them to wash my dog in the end) any tips or tricks to help with nibbling and running away from me?

You do not address the real problem which is undercoat loosening. you need to use a device that takes out the undercoat with a much more vigorous movement than a slicker. It is not the "long ends" it is the undercoat that makes the dog pack and get "knots".
Feet need a poodle comb first, tight comb second and a trim out around the pads and the bottom. you do not address the knots that are between the toes, cutting at the level of the pads does not maintain good foot healthy. Use a scissor that has a balled end and cut from the large pad towards the outside deep to remove knots.rocks, acorns, and other debris can house themselves in between the toes. so just attending to the areas you suggest can cause infection if not addressed at the inner toe area!
When you use a slicker you go over the packing and not get to the skin to remove the packing. You need to go beneath the packing with a poodle comb then use a tighter comb to take out the rest.. While it is a good thing to try to educate the public, your tape is too simplified. A newbie watching this may think it is that easy, It is NOT.
The ears, NEVER PULL. YOU NEED TO SHAVE. The vets say the interior health of the ears can be changed if you pluck. While we used to do this we no longer pluck. As for the plague telling the general public to remove flakes on the teeth, you will need to make sure you do not put divets and scar the teeth, as this can cause severe damage.
This is a beginners version of the care of a Bouvier, it is not what will keep the dog looking good. A bouv owner needs to seek out multiple sources to make sure they are addressing all the needs of the Bouvier coat and grooming prior to thinking that it is just this easy.

You have no idea how ridiculous you sound! We were very much in charge (and still are, we have an adult rescue dogue de bordeux that came to us with no training or manners whatsoever. He's got them now!) It was all fun and games, until I would have enough and he would stand (and in his later years, lie down) and let me brush and trim him until I said it was finished. His death was still very raw when I read your first comment

This is helpful. However I do not recommend an amateur comb a Bouvier roughly with a metal comb. This lady is a professional and knows how much pressure and what angle to put the combs.
I use plastic brushes with knobby ends to loosen the inner coat. If you scratch the skin you may be inviting irritation from the dog and his skin.

I like that the ears and tail have been left uncropped. These practices need to be eliminated. Unless the dog needs to guard herds from predators.
