Lovely color! You’ll get a much richer result using very fresh avocado pits. Less than two days since exposing them to air works well. 💕
Could you freeze them? Oops just heard you say that 😀
The different phases of colors that this avocado pit dye went through were fascinating to watch! Tks for posting!
What where the colour that it went through
Starts the process at 5:11
Love your bunny! I’m getting ready to tea dye some fabric for the first time and may try this next. Thank you!
Carley Rose !!!! I just loved watching your tutorial ...will try this on the weekend. First time. Your video was so great to watch and so are you. Love the music on the cutaway shots and you are so natural. Thank you xo
Excellent tutorial. The result was beautiful! Thanks
Love the video and the colour!! "Blush" is a great name for it. Can you do a video on using organic bamboo clothing and a vibrant colour? Maybe a lavender or a violent? I know the darker colours tend to be challenging and I would love some tips.
Much love 💜
@@CarleyRoseStudio for blue, try to find the 2 only plants that give any lasting colour: dark blue woad (dyer's woad) or true blue Indigo from India. Otherwise there is only 2 hard mineral rocks, that you have to grind into microscopic parts to be able to use & need binders for them to not wash away - lapis lazuli or Egyptian blue (copper carbonate). That's why synthetic indigo/blue colours had to be created in labs. Good luck!
Enjoyed this video very much! I’ve done this dye bath on hand spun yarn several times with the skin and and pits together. Thank you for the suggestion of adding soda to change the color. I will try that. Question...when you are using only nontoxic ingredients why are you cautioning against using that pot again for food? I would guess it’s because it’s a good rule of thumb because sometimes you will have toxic ing. in that dye pot. People dry and grind raw avocado pits as an extremely nourishing food supplement. I bet your plants really liked that treat! Please, also convert the metrics into ounces/pounds, and Tbls/tsps. as a favor to those of us who just can’t make the change. I am your newest subscriber.
Great video and loved the music! My daughter is going to try dyeing silk mesh for her year 12 textiles major work!
Thank you so much! Ohh that is going to be beautiful. Wishing her all the best, year 12 is so tough!
great video. I will try it. I am so silly, I though it would be green...love it!
I LOVED THIS! Made me miss you so much. So informative
I’m new to your channel and I’m going to dye a skirt thank you for sharing this with me thank you
Thank you your video was beautiful and the color is lovely
Lovely
Thank you! 😘 ✿
Thanks so much. Great now I know why sometimes my dye turned brown..I overheated it. I will try as you say turning off heat then turning back on and let the Color come gradually. Thanks. Subscribed ! :)
The brown can also be from avocado residue that hasn’t been cleaned off the pits and skins, it can oxidize and go a bit brown. Glad you liked the video and thanks for subscribing! 🥰
This is great to know ~ 🌿
Beautiful. And a super helpful vdeo. Thanks :)
So my mind is blown. I had no idea you could do this.
There are lots of other natural dyes out there too! Like my favorite- onion skins!
Love your avocado pit dying video. Do you find the results change if you initially chop up the pits?
Hey, thank you for the tutorial, I am excited to try this myself. I just have one question: if the dye is not toxic and okay for watering the plants, how come it has to be a pot that you will not use for cooking later? Why would it be a problem..? :-) thanks!
ingeborgeva It’s recommended to have a designated dying pot because sometimes the dye can soak into the pot and make it unsafe for cooking, but you could always wash the pot and take the risk!
I think it's not the avocado or any other natural source of dye but the pot's (metal) reaction to bicarb/vinegar that could be harmful
Fantastic video! Thank you so much! I'm all inspired now!
Hi Carley! love the video & will try this soon!
just want to know, do the fabrics has some reaction with deodorant or sweat? is it instantly make some different color spots?
This was so interesting! How would you change the process when using a cotton fabric? 😊
Thanks for sharing!!!!
Lovely video thanks
Useful tutorial Thank you! Friendly critic; the music is too loud in between transitions. I had to keep adjusting the volume between your instruction and the music. Peace from USA.
Hello, thanks for your lovely tutorial! Why do you have to use a separate pot if the dye isn’t harmful but eben beneficial for plants? Thanks!
Such a helpful video! Do you find it necessary to use prepared for dyeing fabric or should I be ok as long as I'm using 100% silk? Are there any extra steps I need to take if I'm not using PFD? Thanks so much!
Can you store the dyes? How do I store them and how long will they keep for?
Thanks love it!!
Thank you! ✿
Where did you buy the silk fabric?
Wow I love this color! I can’t wait to try it! Would it work ok with cotton clothing? Or linen? 😊
Hello love your work and the color turned out gorgeous. I have a question I got an of white sneaker a while ago but when I washed it turned white where the soap touched it. So does this method of dyeing fabric work for the sneaker.
What temperature was the water when you immersed the cloth? I plan to die cotton with avocado pit,. Its been done (bed sheets). Time permitting and if results are good, I'll let you know the results
gorgeous, inspiring :) thank you for making this vid!
I love your intro!🥺🌻
Does it matter how much water? Did you leave the garment soaking in water the whole two days you were waiting for the dye to be ready? Xx
To be honest I can't remember at this stage but I don't think I left the fabric in that long.. I would say the amount of water doesn't really change anything too much, the fabric seems to absorb all the dye out of it anyway. What would have more affect is if you had too much fabric and not enough dye. Hope that helps, sorry for such a late reply!
Hi Carley, have you ever tried ecoprint ?
Hi
I have a unusual question! I was wondering if I can color my hair with it! I don't dye my hair any more, so I have a lot of white hair.
Do you think I should bother trying it on a top that’s
1 made out of lyocell
2 already a kind of nude colour (more like tan?)
I just want it to be more of a pink-y nude but idk if it would made any difference due to the fabric and also the fact that it’s already a tan colour
Since this was specifically made for silk fabric, are there any different steps for dyeing cotton fabric?
I'd recommend that you scour the fabric first, since cotton is a fiber that usually has lots of protective waxes/oils on it, that can prevent the dye from taking properly. Scouring basically means cleaning the fiber thoroughly with a pure mild detergent/soap (nothing that deposits things in the fiber like softener etc) or washing soda in some cases, stripping it of any natural protective coating. It's usually done by simmering the fabric in the detergent solution. It's easy, and makes a big difference! Look up "how to scour cotton".
Alright then after scouring, you can move on to the dyeing just like in the video. And also, making sure the fabric is thoroughly soaked for at least an hour before adding it to the pot is good with any kind of fiber really - helps the dye take evenly. Since avocado contains tannic acid naturally, no mordant is needed. (A mordant is a substance that will bond with the dye to form molecules that are attached to the fiber, so the dye sticks and doesn't just get washed out.) Tannic acid happens to be the recommended mordant to use for cellulose fiber (like cotton), so that's convenient for you that avocado pits already contain it so you don't have to add it. So just scour, then dye! Good luck!
Hello I am wondering of u will be able to post again?
Hi Carey thank you for subscribing to my channel🤗
Thank you ❤
Most welcome ✿
Is the color wash and light fast? Thanks!!
Hi, I have a silk dress I want to dye but it has a zipper. Would it be a bad idea to try this on a dress with a metal zipper?
I wonder if somehow cutting up the pits would help it release more color....
Is this silk from silk worm cocoons?
Thanks for the tutorial! Do you think it’s ok to use a pot I also use for cooking (since I’m just going to use avocados, no chemical mordants or anything)
@@CarleyRoseStudio thanks! I've actually tried and got a nice color on silk, although mine is definitely more peach than pink. I wonder if it's because I let the avocado material boil for a while (had to take a call so I couldn't monitor my pot!). Adding baking soda definitely helped in achieving a deeper color.
Great video. You dont need to steam set before washing?
Well I ecco print and paint/dye silk scarfs. I roll them onto a pvc pipe and steam in a big pot on top of my stove. However, I am wondering if it is the paint/dye that I use that needs to be steam set versus the “natural” dyes?
Carley Rose Studio do you have a video of how to do this rolled/flower & leaves technique? I would LOVE to try this
Can you break the avocados pits in smaller pieces to release more color?
Thank you for sharing.
You can definitely break them because mine fell apart while boiling, however I’m not sure whether the dye comes from the shell of the pit (the brown layer) or the actual pit itself… I have a feeling it comes from the shell part.
I have heard you can use the skins too, but you need to make sure they’re really clean (or you’ll end up with brown instead of pink) and I haven’t tried it myself as of yet.
Let me know how you go!

For a Easter Project, I will use 12 white napkins and let each one tint different timing.
Also, when I was a child I made stamps from avocado pits (soak and stamp).
Small rabbits silhouettes will do it!
Thank you.
what temperature did you cook the pits at?
Thank you for the tips! would this technique work in cotton or linen? Do you recommend something to seal the color in the fabric? like salt or vinegar, like traditional dyeing?
Hay can you dye a cotton milk cardigan the only thing is it has wooden buttons help
Can this dye be used on cashmere? Is cashmere a protein material?
Thanks. I will let you know how it turns out.
Which fabric did you use? Natural silk or ?
Yes it’s 100% silk, this doesn’t work with polyester satin or anything synthetic i don’t think.

3:11 Nice edit
What’s peppa? A cat, bunny or pig? Can’t see it
I would let it dry with the dye and than wash.
Hey there, would you add anything in the water when you want to dye cotton?
How for 48 hours???????

This could have been a 30 second vid
Was going to subscribe but hate the background music so much I couldn't. Music is off putting and so distracting and unprofessional.
