I started drumming in the mid 70's. As soon as I could afford good cymbals I went with the Zildjian A line. I played Zildjians for the next 20 years but I noticed that I had to go to a music store and play a bunch of Zildjian A's before I could settle for the right one. I was never fully satisfied with the process of finding the right cymbal but I continued to play Zildjian A's and K's until the late 90's when I came into some money and I was gigging a lot. I went into a music store that had a huge drum section with many brands and styles and as I played them all I noticed that any Paiste Signature series that I played, sounded great. You cannot find a bad sounding Paiste Signature series cymbal. I ended up plunking down around $1500 on 3 crashes, a splash, a ride, hi hats and a 14" china. These cymbals sounded like they belonged together. Bright , crisp and the perfect amount of sustain. I am officially a Paiste guy now and forever. Thanks Ian and Nicko for being an inspiration during my growth as a drummer. Keep groovin'!
I met Ian in 1990. Played a club in central Florida, finished the set and he came over and said "Can I buy you a drink mate?" Ritchie Blackmore and the other guys were there too. Was a pretty cool thing and unfortunately time does fly!
Two Legends of the Hard Rock Music togheter in the sofà Nicko McBrain and Ian Paice long Life to Rock Roll and Up the Iron Maiden 🖐️💪😀🎤🎻🎸📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀
Thank you for a reason to get more gear, I have a cymbal set and I’m not happy with the sound and was thinking of if I should get a new ride, hi hats, crashes, now I know I must , and also a snare ,
Two legends, I love the sound of Paiste cymbals. I still have my original set of hand-hammered and lathed Sound Formulas I bought way back in 1995. Recorded and played live with them, superb cymbals.
Been playing Paiste 2002s since I was 16..in 1976! Played in a lot of bands since then! Playing now and for the rest of my life I hope with Agent Orange! Wouldn't ever even dream of touching another brand of cymbal!! PAISTE FOREVER!!!👍👍
In my opinion, what makes Ian Paice different from the rest is that you can listen to his old records from the 70s but he sounds and plays like a modern drummer. So ahead of his time, he directly helped to forge modern drumming the way it is now. Such an influential drummer...
I have 2002's and bought some Zildjian A Customs about 20 years ago from Canada (1/3 off the UK price!) thinking I could match the crash cymbals ...wrong, as they don't blend together so, I sold the Zildjians. Still got some Zildjian Dark K HH's and ride cymbals which are great within the mix.
Thanks for the interview of two legends. I might have mic'd them, but maybe the goal was to keep it raw? Looking forward to more (hopefully mic'd) interviews...
Such a pleasure seeing these legends together and listening to their wisdom and experience!!! 🤘🤘🤘❤️❤️❤️ I would definitely choose Paiste cymbals when i get some drums!
I was always inspired by Ian Paice from the Made in Japan LP and spent many hours playing along to this album (mostly on soft furnishings to keep the noise down in the flat I lived in with my parents). I bought Paiste 2002 cymbals from 1975 (16" crash was £30 then) and haven't looked back. A replacement 16" was £90 in about 1990 but these 2002's are so consistent, you hardly have to hear them before buying them. I have many now including a 16" Signature crash which is probably my favourite. I must save up and get a nice 20" Signature Dry Ride ideally. I heard one at a drum exhibition in London back about the mid 1990's, loved the sound, and thought that must be for me. Unfortunately, time and money have prevented that so far, but I live in hope. Regards from Jim Lassen, a Paiste fan from the UK ( I use a few Zildjians as well, sorry!)
I love Paiste, my only three gripes with them is 1: no dark or lower pitch sounding cymbals at a lower price point that I can afford, 2: the ones that are lower pitch, dark are $100-300 more than the competitors, 3: and the lower lines have limited sizes and I want some bigger sizes. Like a 20”, 22” and 24” crash. More thin and medium thin. I’ve been tempted by Sabian offering lower pitch, darker and larger sizes at reasonable prices but I just prefer Paiste sound and quality but I can’t get afford 602 Modern Essential, Masters, Twenty, and some Signatures. PST 7 is sweet but no low or dark cymbals, I actually love PST 8 look and sound but same lack of flavors. I think Paiste should look into low pitch and dark sounding cymbals budget line. For example I would Expand the PST8 and PSTX and offer larger sizes up to 24” on crashes, rides, China’s etc, thin and medium thin, and a dark sounding line with thin, med thin, medium. Maybe leave the bottom unlathed, focused hammering in spots to bring out some mojo and maybe even small holes in spots to bring out the darkness on PST8 and X line make less holes and bottom unlathed might sound dark and interesting. I don’t know and neither you until you try. Have experts listen and give their feedback. I think you can make a hit (and money) offering affordable darker sounding cymbals with those two lines expanded. Same with low volume cymbals that sound better than competitors
I used to play Ziljian and enjoyed them ,had one or two early Sabians and was impressed BUT their quality started to go down much quicker. But in the mid 1990s I found PAISTE 2002 series 18" crash and fell in love, so got a 16,17 and 10 splash of same series. They sound ,feel and look amazing simply the most musical cyms ever . PASITE RULES!
Wow! My two favorite drummers talking about my favorite type of cymbals in my favorite type of sofa(that is leather sofa by the way)?! Am i on drugs or is that cool?
For me, it is all about the black label 2002 mediums. They sound and feel so good! That is what I use. The fast crashes ae too splashy for me, we we all love different tones.
I don't get paid to play or get ANY Cymbal for FREE..and I played all of them. And to me, Paiste Signature Series is the MOST musically sound cymbal I have ever heard.💪🎵Righto Nicko and Mr. Paic(st)E
Love these guys....but, Zildjian is my brand. (Loved wearing the simple black t-shirt since middle school.) Zildjian is the flagship of American middle/high school bands.

Love both of these guys! Ian Paice's playing was so ahead of it's time.

Those two are in their 60s and 70s and are still playing as if they were 30. God damn amazing

Hey! Your drumming is really good, just did a little search on your name and Agent Orange! You guys punk!

2 of my 3 favourite drummers . Rip jeff pocaro. The 3rd. Paiste is da best.
Ian paice and niko mcbrain, two of my favourite drummers, these chaps were my inspiration and i love paiste cymbals, my first set were paiste 🥁🥁👍
Ian is the voice of wisdom. I agree with all he said here.
Mis admiraciones totales a ambos y en especial a la súper súper leyenda, el de dedos más rápidos IAN PAICE yessss!
This is a beautiful conversation and also a little bit Spinal Tap with Ian talking about sounds, I love it.
2 of my 3 favorite drummers

I’ve been a Paiste guy for 20 years. I’ve also owned a few Z’s and Sabians, but Paiste are my sound and my cymbals of choice
Same here. I have a few z still in my set but they’re on the back burner
Nice ...nice ....nice !!!

I absolutly love NICO, and IAN PAICE IS THE VERY BEST ROCK DRUMMER EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Period.
MITICI 👍👍👍👍
Both legends...both need to be mic'd.
DUUUUUUUUUDE they are only 4 years of difference between these two!!! That's bonkers!
I've always pronounced paiste "paste" not pyste like Nicko, bit like the argument over scone or scon or bath or barth
these two old codgers make me smile :)
Two super power houses❤

2 BEST drummers ever on 1 sofa!!!!! … MAIDEEEEEEEN!!!!
I assume you were born yesterday. Bonham, Powell, Moon, Baker...? Google them, my son.
@@michaelstephen819 you must be kidding… you were not even born when I listened to those guys… they're nothing to Paice & McBrain
They Seat position explain they position behind the drum kits 😁
2 masters
faces of the year
It's the craftsmanship and the copper nickel difference between the rest and Paiste.
Tonal and sustain quality with definitive character particularly to volume and attack.
Pretty sure it's the craftsmanship and the copper nickel difference
