    Call me old-fashioned, but I really prefer the landscape format and I’m not a Shorts viewer. Please don’t give up on Landscape format.

      Thanks Jill. I feel the same way. Horizontal is what viewers are accustomed to for higher informational & production value (like movies, documentaries and music videos) and it puts them into the mindset to slow down and pay some attention to the content. Vertical formats are conditioning people to only half pay attention and to skip through fast when it isn't immediately catchy. It doesn't suit me well, but I have to experiment with the formats and platforms that can support my local business well - I'll never stop making horizontal video so long as they let me!

      @@FraserValleyRoseFarm Thanks so much for responding. I fully understand needing to do whatever you can do support your business. Being based in NZ, I cannot buy from you directly but have learnt so much from watching your long-length videos which suits me. It’s been very rewarding watching you develop your garden spaces. Good luck!

    You do what you gotta do for your business. I watch you on UA-cam and I hate the shorts but that is just me, and I don't have to watch the shorts, I can just watch your regular youtube videos. I don't do tiktok either. I am way down here in Florida so not a local customer. I understand and I will still follow you on youtube.

      @@FraserValleyRoseFarm I hope you know I didn't mean I hate your YT-shorts, I meant YT-shorts in general. I find the vertical format an unpleasant disconcerting orientation for watching a video; I am on my computer watching most times.

      You bet. I don't take anyone's format preferences personally - even as I don't love vertical video myself I'm trying to stay open-minded that folks on mobile seem to prefer it.

    This is very interesting, even though i don't use much tech. I watch content in both formats. When you posted the peony, i turned on the TV. But I also watch shorts to pass the time, so I understand the need to produce that content as well. (PS were roadtripping to the Bradner flower show this Friday, so are making our first visit to your nursery. I'll have to check your hours!)

    Hi Jason, highly appreciate your creation & posting of various types of video clips which are full of useful “Tips & Tricks” & related information.
    Certainly, this particular information about video recording will be a good lesson to learn for many beginners.
    Nowadays, many good gadgets are coming to the market but we don’t have their information, don’t know what to buy, how to use them & after purchasing, how much they will be useful for us.
    This is my kind request to you Jason to create more such video clips on various subjects, various products & how to use them.
    As video recording is becoming an essential part for many reasons & applications, this is a good clip. No body was even thinking about learning this type of information just couple of years ago as feel it now.
    Thanks again for your positive thinking & creating videos in very simple & easy to understand format for all level of your followers. 👍🙏🌹

    Learn something from you in every one of your videos, thank you Jason for that. I watch all my UA-cam content on a a tablet in landscape style, that’s the orientation I prefer. So I’m glad to hear you plan to keep doing those too. I’m old fashioned, can’t get used to shorts and reels and stories. Very rarely watch those. Probably the combination of portrait orientation and shortness that give me a rushed feeling when watching them. As I’m not near you (Netherlands, Europe) can’t support you locally, and I understand you do what you need to do to reach your local customers. Good luck!

    Out of interest sake, what does a compost at a nursery look like. I assume you have one?

    • @FraserValleyRoseFarm
      @FraserValleyRoseFarm  Рік тому +1

      Thanks. My only complaint with the AI face tracking is that it always centers the shot on the face - and if I were framing it myself, I'd just about never place the face dead center of the shot. I suppose I could mount the camera a bit on the high side for a better shot but I'll have to play around with it. The plant trimmings from crop maintenance are about the same as you'd expect from yard trimmings and garden work, but the part that can be a little problematic is dealing with the root ball/potting mix on plants disposed (dead plants or ones graded out for quality). It's not something you can avoid entirely - and the high proportion of "brown" material in this spent potting mix can grind an otherwise hot compost system to a halt. We've been blessed/cursed with a lot of uneven spots throughout the landscape of the farm, so we've been using the potting mix waste to fill in dips and uneven ground. TMI?

  • @gardeningjunkie2267
    @gardeningjunkie2267 Рік тому

    Can you show the tripod you used in the first shot please?

    • @FraserValleyRoseFarm
      @FraserValleyRoseFarm  Рік тому +1

      I actually had to use 2 tripods - one for the gimbal and phone and the other for the camera. If you see this Amazon list www.amazon.com/shop/fraservalleyrosefarm/list/NMCM3CXQNCWL?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_aipsflist_aipsffraservalleyrosefarm_P5K79GKVQ3DDB437EEME the gimbal and phone were mounted on something quite like the lightweight tripod list and the camera was on the heavyweight (professional) tripod. It might be worth noting that the gimbal itself has some pull-out "legs" that form a little tripod of its own if you set it on a flat surface too.

      Thanks Trish. Usually I use an inexpensive Takstar Shotgun mic on my camera - it's not perfect, but when the camera is mounted on a tripod (which is my usual shot) it gives reasonable audio at 4-6ft range outdoors.

    Wow I love that! I have a gimbal but not that automated. Jason I have a question, my English roses blooms are heavy and end up on floor? The blooms become damaged and I was hoping u can give me advice 🙏 what am I doing wrong? Do they need to have support?

    • @FraserValleyRoseFarm
      @FraserValleyRoseFarm  Рік тому

      Some varieties are just famously lax and will flop under the weight of the blooms. It's unlikely you're doing anything to cause it. Some thinning pruning may help to bring down the overall weight of stems and favor few (but hopefully stronger growing) canes. Yes, some clever way of securing them to a support can also be a good solution.

    • @FraserValleyRoseFarm
      @FraserValleyRoseFarm  Рік тому +1

      Thanks John. It moves quite quickly and yes, pairs with the camera by bluetooth. My only gripe is that with face tracking it automatically centers to the face, whereas I might normally frame a shot with my face at the top third of the screen. It's kind of a funny angle default, but if you raise the camera a little higher it turns out okay.

    I wish I could justify a gimbal for my business but I don’t have the viewer base yet.
    My biggest problem is with talking clearly, and finding the time to edit… its gotten to the point where I gave up trying to edit and talk well/clearly and just shoot…
    I kinda like the end result though, its much more like I’m talking to someone next to me rather than trying to produce a movie.
