There were a lot of really good RnB artists and songs during the 90's and early 2k's. I think autotune came along and a lot of less gifted singers over used it. It was hot for a while, but when it faded it exposed the not so talented. By then guys like Glenn, Musiq and others got older and RnB was less popular to the younger generation. If you're as old as me (48) 70's and 80's kids grew up on RnB and made 90's and early 2k's RnB. We heard RnB in the clubs in that era. Kids these days aren't hearing that now in clubs. There used to be a wide range of black music on your favorite radio station then. Now it's mainly all hip hop. A genre I also grew up on but I appreciated both. My son sang this song at 3 years old. He was murdered at the age of 16 in 2017. I couldn't stop listening to it today on my way home today from work....I can't stop crying 😭😢!!!!
Musiq Soulchild, D’Angelo, Glenn Lewis, Jill Scott, Erica Badu, The Roots, Lauryn Hill, Amel Larrieux. The Neo Soul music era was full of talented artist/writers who sang with such raw emotion and I miss it!! Today’s R&B is definitely not the same. H.E.R, Jazmine Sullivan, Coco Jones, Ari Lennox and Sza is the closest thing we got right now. 😔
And Lucky Daye! His first album Painted was very much influenced by this era. He experiments with rock and blues, but r&b is his base, neo soul is one of his main influences.🩵
This song became my life anchor when I was on my way to the hospital to give birth to my daughter. I was anxious and afraid, and the lyrics took me to a place of peace. Years later, I met Glenn Lewis at The Apollo, and I got to share my story with him. He was touched, and he autographed a pic for my little girl. This song continues to speak to me to this day.
The record companies and execs at top are only interested in the quantity of green and not quality or the artist. It truly sucks. I’m glad we have UA-cam to reminisce.
Yes sri!!! i was listening without viewing the video and I was thinking that the tone of the voice sounds familiar... Stevie we love you!!!!. (The Force)
I heard this song when I was with my ex. We was riding in the car together. It was an emotionally abusive relationship. I was so hurt and broken. The lyrics moved me. They really speak to me today. God knows I needed to hear this. That's why I love Him so much. He never gives up on us, and He is always trying to show Himself to us. Even when we are so far away from Him.

Wow!! This song would grab a hold on me, especially back in the day. I was 30 yrs old, divorced with 2 girls. Decades later and everything is just fine 😊
When this came out i was about 15 and was living on my own. This song gave me so much strength to keep going . I never missed a day of school( except cut days) I had a after school job and had my first apartment. This use to make me cry because my uncle use to tell me the same thing but he passed aways about 6 years b4 this came out. I havent heard it in years but i needed it now To remember because now I have a 14 year old .
I just said the same. Born 94 so this takes me back to when I had no care in the world & my mom, my everything, would have these classics on from hiphop to r&b . Her love for music went right to me. I hear songs like Mary j blidge “everything” & biggie “mo money” & I’m taking back to nearly my toddler days & vividly remember the days when these songs played. Peace & blessings to you Queen
I noticed something about some of the comments about him saying he should of been more famous. Which is true, I agree. However, I'm now seeing that if guys like Glen Lewis truly musically talented with a gift like music, you honestly wouldn't want to be famous like most of the mainstream artist who came, saw and got conquered by the music industry. I rather see him be more happy with his gift then him being famous.
After 15 yrs god knows where ….. I got my Daughter Back. The streets did their damage . This song was the vibration I always felt and sent out to the Universe hoping one day I would see her again..
This song motivated me to move out of my home state with my son. I was beyond miserable but afraid of the unknown. My dad used to play this song a lot when I was younger. I had a dream he was whistling this song and I knew it was time for me to stop being afraid and take a risk. I absolutely love Florida besides the traffic lol.
God bless you. I wish I had that much strength and took that leap to relocate. My younger brother was not too pleased with me because he implored to leave because of the very limited opportunities in my state and he thought I was really smart as I had just finished my MBA within 1 and 1/2 yrs as opposed to the traditional 2 years it normally takes. I wished I had taken his heed. He was really smart himself. He was an Engineer.(R.I.H.).
I was 12 when this came out on. Watched it/heard it on BET Jazz...It introduced me to NeoSoul and it changed my life. Through this I found hip-hop (Kweli, Mos Def, Nas, etc)...Miss these days. I'm turning 31 next month and I'm married with a 2 year old. Bumping this with her all the time. Good times, life is strange and moves fast, enjoy it!
I swear this song takes me way back to when you were still here with me. The late nights playing scrabble- talking ish, laughing, eating good food and playing music late into the night-you teaching and me learning. I feel like I can remember every conversation we ever had. You told me before you left I would have days like this but everything would be alright. I wish you were here to help me get through this but I know one day I’ll see you again but you won’t fuss me out because I messed up-no you’re gonna hold me like you use to and it will be warm and good. I will never forget l, hope is what my 💜 is made of!
Never Forget The first time I heard this back in February of 2002, I was 14 years old and a freshman in high-school just tryna find my way through it all...this song really helped me get through that second part of my freshman year...Neo soul at its finest..miss those days 😌
When I tell a woman that I can love the way this song makes her feel, she smirks as if I'm feeding her soup. Then when it was too late, it I wasn't even in her horizon. Yes....this song moves my emotions effortlessly. This is on my "Emotions" play list. I'm an Aqua...we take form of whatever we put ourselves in.
Having had the pleasure of meeting Glenn back in my days in the Toronto R&B scene in the 90's, I also had the pleasure of hearing him drop "Don't You Forget It" live, way before ever released on his album. Glenn is a class act in every regard.
Can someone please gather all these beautiful, wonderful, talented bruthas & bring them back to when music really meant something, sincerely, a fan of dying soul music, like a beautiful, dying flower that needs to be watered & nutured back into season, Thanks.P.S. These bruthas include: Glenn Lewis, Dave Hollister, Jimmy Cozier, Bilal, Eric Benet, Carl Thomas, Donnell Jones, & so many more
Believe it or not Glen Lewis was project. He was amazing and should've gotten a signing deal with the record company. But, NEO SOUL wasn't the main focus in the music industry. So he was a project. Just like a lot of those one hit wonders in the NEO SOUL AND R&B category. Names like Tony Rich, Craig David, Mystic, Jerzee Monet the list goes on. But all them artists was projects for record companies. That means they give them $800,000 to do they thang and put out a album. Your one hit strikes the billboard you get a million to atlease 3 million. But they also release you with YOUR MASTER COPY and when your song gets played on radios and feature on soundtrack you get 25% while the label gets 75% or it depends on how much they agree with you on. PRIME EXAMPLE LOOK AT BAD BOY RECORDS. That's what happened to DA BAND, DIRTY MONEY, CARL THOMAS, LOON, CRAIG MAC, DIANTY KANE, YOUNG JOC ESPECIALLY. YOUNG JOC was a project for the SOUTH. Remember at one time the DIRTY SOUTH was taking over in the rap and JOC was DIDDY'S new project for the south. BAD BOY SOUTH. JOC got screwed so bad that he stooped to LOVE AND HIP HOP.
Another B.E.T midnight love classic. A lot of people slept on this brother here. They didn't know nothing about him, & he's a great artist. I love this song here.

The Neo Soul music era was full of talented artist/writers who sang with such raw emotion and I miss it!! Today’s R&B is definitely not the same. H.E.R, Jazmine Sullivan, Coco Jones, Ari Lennox and Sza is the closest thing we got right now. 😔
Facts
India Arie
Don't forget Summer Walker, Muni Long & Durand Bernarr
And Lucky Daye! His first album Painted was very much influenced by this era. He experiments with rock and blues, but r&b is his base, neo soul is one of his main influences.🩵
I’m 43 and this song still speaks and motivates me🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️

This song became my life anchor when I was on my way to the hospital to give birth to my daughter. I was anxious and afraid, and the lyrics took me to a place of peace. Years later, I met Glenn Lewis at The Apollo, and I got to share my story with him. He was touched, and he autographed a pic for my little girl. This song continues to speak to me to this day.
Who's listening in 2024?❤🎉
me 3-18-24 and its still as good as the first time I heard it

😩🔥🔥🔥🔥 this the type of music we need TODAY💯
WHEN WE STOP MAKING SOUL MUSIC LIKE THIS WAS THE BEGINNING OF THE END & WE ARE EXPERIENCING IT NOW!!!!!!🎤🎤🎤🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯
Auto-tuned Drake and Future took over... unfortunately.

(The Force)
Ben Erban that's part of what made me love his voice and this song. Real talk he look a dark version of Ginuwine and sing like Stevie wonder
God bless you Queen 👸🏿! Always follow that positive voice that you hear in your mind, God is speaking to you 🙏🏾

This is from an era where people had talent and didn't just sell soft porn.
This will forever be my favorite neo soul song!! “Don’t you be afraid!” 🌻
This is R&B
@@gustavogiblani Nope , look it up. Google it. 🥰🌻
This song has so much nostalgia back to my inner child, teenager, and adult. All the things we go through while navigating through life.
Well said.. real shit....
And the best comment award goes too LOL ...Damn well put tho 👍🏾
Yes we go through so much it's like a reflection back in time.
Nostalgia in the real world.
TRUTH
Well said.

Was this song about?
@@LaQuittaDecosey-l2sa young woman not being afraid of the world and knowing her worth
21 years later, I have not forgotten about this underrated classic. The 106 & Park days!
Thanks for this. I’ve been saying I’m moving for 7 months to Florida.. time to move on . I appreciate you sharing your story
God bless. When you do the same, you get the same. Time is precious. Be proud of the power within you to move on.

This song is magic🎶💯❤️
Just remember all those that had limited success or one hit wonders with a hit, didn’t sell their SOULS. We must respect them for that

Having had the pleasure of meeting Glenn back in my days in the Toronto R&B scene in the 90's, I also had the pleasure of hearing him drop "Don't You Forget It" live, way before ever released on his album. Glenn is a class act in every regard.
Such a beautiful piece of work STILL to this day, much respect to you king ❤

💯
Heavy subject matter. Delivered exquisitely over simple r&b drums. 🗣️🎶🔥
Another B.E.T midnight love classic. A lot of people slept on this brother here. They didn't know nothing about him, & he's a great artist. I love this song here.
