Wow what an extraordinary win by Simon Whitfield, for him to win after being in the bike crash is almost inconceivable. What an exceptional triathlete!
Whitfield had the measure of Vukovic and the other competitors. Vukovic,s head was bobbing as he passed Marceau and Whitfield tracked him and judged his sprint well.
Simon ran intelligently. He knew who was up front and what he had to do with his running capacity to firstly finish the race and climb up the ranking. He’s done greatly and consistently thrugout his career.
Marceau did well in being up front for almost 40mins, Vukovick did great despite his running inefficiencies, Lessing had a bad day, Stewart and Kemper too.
@@MatzeMumpitz It is incredible that both competitions, both Sydney 2000 and Beijing 2008, had a similar outcome, even more so with two competitors from the same countries, Canada and Germany.
I was there watching it live, pity 4 out of the medallists doped to get a medal and tbh nothing radically has changed since from Athens/Beijing/London or Rio.
Pity no one thereto give him a Canadian flag I'd quite forgotten that they used to give the gold medal out first rather than third . I much prefer the new way ie 3,2,1,rather than 1,2,3
Go Canada. I remember being so disappointed when he fell, I walked away from the TV, twenty minutes later my mom runs into my room saying he might win it...he wins it...true Canadian grit.
I foget but about 13 = mins in .. geez .. thos rails were as crooked as a dogs hind leg .. can't evenhaving a trai to ride thos trax ..I think it was Bendiigo line .. ha ha .. all bent and need to be replaced ... make it a straight line .. the train drivers shall appreciate the smooth tracks .
Watching this in 2021, great respect for all the runners, wish there was commentary to acknowledge the winners and the participants.
Been on an Olympic triathlon binge so grateful for these vids but lol'd at this race that looks like it was shot on a smartphone

It truly was incredible. Hard to fathom how he did it. He must have really conserved himself on the bike.
@Lochlan Israel naw I’ll pass, but thanks anyways !
Beautiful form on the run.
"Inconceivable"!!

Real shame there is no commentary
na have you heard Olympic commentary for long events? it's diabolical. you'd be better off listening to dubstep for two hours.
what an incredible way to start an Olympic Games
watching this and being reminded of three great years living at Bondi beach and, for a short while, actually working in that beautiful opera house
Can you upload the woman's race as well?

Also Simon Whitfield gets a silver medal in Beijing 2008
And he was sprinted off by Frodeno then in the same way he did with Vuckovic in 2000.
