Some advice: Do NOT use Walk the Abyss as a shortcut to get home after a missions. You can miss out on story content and in some cases sequence-break the game.
I agree with you; Serena is one of my favorite characters. Do you know that Serena originally was planned to accompany Christof into the 20th Century, waking up with him? Those files still exist in VTM-R. It would be cool to have this timeline, and I'm going to see what I can do (I do some modding). I could imagine several changes: 1. Given that I have figured out about how to build a nearly invincible Christof with regards to the Society of Leopold, I would allow Christof to meet Serena only after he confronts Dr. Leo Allatius (put her in the last room beyond Dr. Allatius' office area, changing the room to a torture chamber with Serena being tortured and a bit of tasteful cheesecake...). This preserves Christof doing the Society of Leopold alone and has him doing a rescue of Serena. 2. I don't think that Christof would be as willing to accept Pink's help if accompanied by Serena; as opposed to if he was alone. Serena's Auspex might identify Pink as a diabolist and trouble, or she may just use common sense. This would lead to Christof being forced to choose between Serena and Pink; I would definitely choose Serena, given that choice. If Christof chooses Pink, everything proceeds as it does now. 3. The above would likely lead to Pink following Christof, Serena, (and later Lilly) stealthily, and doing all kinds of mischief. This could lead to several very nasty battles between Pink and Christof. 4. How Serena would react to the Giovanni would be interesting (they destroyed the Cappadocians) to say the least. The Gio boss could die under her fangs just as easily as he did under Pink's. 5. For London, Lilly would join the same way as she always did; however if Serena is accompanying Christof instead of Pink, another choice would need to be made in New York. The standard timeline would follow if Pink is with Christof instead of Lilly. 6. I made the London Setites WAY tougher by giving them all Presence. Some will also have Obfuscate (like a true WOD common Setite), others will also have Potence instead of Obfuscate (like Path of the Warrior Setites). 7. For New York, Christof is offered a choice between Lilly and Samuel if Serena is present instead of Pink. Samuel will have been attacked by Sabbat Malkavians and the Underprince will be Malkavian instead of Nosferatu (and WAY CREEPIER...). Lilly will depart to try to find her sire if Samuel is chosen, or Samuel will depart grateful for the assistance of kind strangers if Lilly is chosen. 8. The sewers will have been taken over by the `Malks (many of whom have Potence and/or Animalism in addition to Obfuscate, Auspex, and Dementation; as a result of Diablerie vs. Nosferatu). A tome of Dementation will be available.
Story time: You're more right about the manual than you know: I bought this game when it came out and loved the story but particularly, *the manual* was just amazing to me. I was at a book store browsing when I saw "Oh look, Vampire: The Masquerade" but no mere manual but a 300 page hard cover book. Realizing than this was the full game I immediately bought it, then read it cover to cover a few times, then got together with a few friends to start playing TTRPGs and met other people playing them and today I am a huge fan of ttrpg games but it was all because I was so impressed by the manual of Redemption that made me go "So the actual game is just like this only 1000x more detailed?" Serena is useful as a caster, she can learn spirit touch (just one dot is enough for this power), "heightened senses" allows you to find secrets and see the nosferatu. She will learn fire thaumaturgy for free, this comes with fireball and a extra useful fire damage. Mortis is very powerful just don't bother with it this early in the game because is reaaaaally expensive just wait for the later parts to go plague wind (don't bother with shambling hordes and vigor mortis, is wasted exp). Your best bet is to go fortitude and blood healing at first because of the low survivability of serene as she es physically weak, also fortitude is one of the few things to protect against fire and aggravated damage (this will be very important very soon)
In the game there's almost no protection against fire damage, you should look for the leather armor and raise fortitude otherwise the tremere are gonna be hell. There's no need to spend in melee weapons as you find the best ones in the game for free. About the stuthered leather armor, sometimes you find it, sometimes not. Spending in crossbows or fire bows depends on you. Good luck (you'll need it)
There are helmets, shields, chest armors, gauntlets that have fire protection. And yes most leather chestpieces offer some fire resistance. Disciplines Fortitude, Ignore the Searing Flame in Blood Rituals Thaumaturgy, and Skin of the Adder in Serpentis. You need these things before Ardan's Chantry the first time you are still in Prague. Characters who do not have fire protection in key areas can just use ranged weapons. Christof: Fortitude - After getting the reliquary of Saint George, Nosferatu Tunnels last part. Blood Rituals - Haus De Hexe Laboratory. Serpentis - After giving final death to Lucretia. So this doesn't help against the Tremere but later fire hazards. Wilhem: Gets no discipline protection from fire. Serena: Fortitude - Starts out with it. Erik: Fortitude - Starts out with it. Pink: Fortitude - Gets it from the Tower of London. Lily: Gets no discipline protection from fire. Samuel: Fortitude - NYC Sewers Otherwise you can always dodge Fireballs and Firestorm with your controlled character, especially while using Celerity. Best to control the one who does not have protection. Celerity: Christof - start Wilhem - start Serena - won't and can't Erik - after killing Luther Black Pink - start Lily - start Samuel - after killing Orsi
Serena is also one of my favorite characters. Christof the Everyman is gradually learning what the “True Face of the World” is like. Before that time, he has met the “Eve” (or possibly even the “Mother Mary” …) archetype in Sister Anezka. Christof is now ready to meet the Lilith archetype in the form of Serena. Serena is Christof’s equal in every way that matters. She is a vampire; fully capable of adventuring and fighting at his side, and is definitely no innocent. Serena and her sire Garinol are the first low-humanity vampires that Christof encounters in a non-hostile situation (Serena is no Ahzra). Food for thought…. SERINA’S XP EXPENDITURE Serena’s initial XP will come from the Quest to the Nosferatu Warrens, so there will be combat…. I would recommend developing Serena to first give her some fighting skill so that she has survivability. Make Serena the equal of what Christof or Wilhelm started with; Strength (STR) = 35, Dexterity (DEX) = 40 to 45, and Stamina (STA) unaltered at 30. STR 35 allows use of any shield (including a Great Shield)/wielding any one-handed weapon, and wearing any armor up to Scale Mail, but disallows wearing Half Plate (STR 45+ required) and Full Plate (STR 55+ required). DEX 35+ also allows Serena to use a Longbow; a skill that she may need for a while until she gets access to “Lure of the Flames.” FURTHER XP USAGE: Following gaining STR 35 and DEX 40-45 with developing Auspex. Developing just one dot “Spirit’s Touch” will free the party from having to pay for expensive Spirit’s touch scrolls. At this point, stop spending XP until Serena gains access to the Discipline “Lure of the Flames.” Serena’s starting Intelligence (INT) = 40 will allow her to acquire one dot each of Torch and Fireball before having to acquire INT = 50/then purchase one dot of Flame Ring. After that, acquire INT = 60/then purchase one dot of Immolate, and finally acquire INT = 70/then purchase one dot of Firestorm. One dot of Firestorm will make Serena the party’s “sniper”; with range = line of sight, and having enough power to kill any enemy encountered on the next quest with one shot. Adding more dots of Firestorm will grow Serena into an “Artillery Piece.” Against non-Neonate vampires encountered later, one dot of Firestorm makes this attack a “Lure and Feed" if it doesn’t kill them outright, consuming blood rather than ammunition. Firestorm also does not harm other party members if they happen to get too close (no “friendly fire” damage). One dot of Immolate is still a deadly touch attack vs. any foe encountered on the next quest. Flame Ring is an omni-directional attack that does not affect other party members. At one dot, this attack is primarily useful against “rat pack” attacks (many opponents with poor combat abilities attacking in concert).
I always thought she was just a tzimisce ghoul who just happened to be mad. Although the female malkavian multiplayer character is her model. But multiplayer models are very liberally set up.
I got the boxed game when this came out and the manual is amazing! It has a lot of the stuff from the actual rule books...got me into Vampire the masquerade table top!
I had Christoph a BEAST by the end... When I broke out the disciplines, nobody stood a prayer... But never did much to presence... After awe, it just didn't seem worth it...Humanity was PRETTY high 8 or 9... So it was doing pretty good, almost holy.... (most definitely had speech of "holier then thou")... Willhelm was just a "blood sink", he was always running off in a frenzy.... Dunno how the boy survived the dark ages. He drove me nuts (the a.i. for me, was just laughable) What always seemed weird to me... Was, vampires SHOULDN'T dream..They "die" during the day... So who was sending the "dreams"? AND why?
Just discovered your channel and after watching a few of these videos I just had to subscribe; I really like this video game adaptation and the setting itself. Also - not sure if you are aware - but previews of the upcoming Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition guidebook Cults of the Blood Gods (recently funded on Kickstarter) have confirmed that Serena did not meet her final death when she disappear in that one part later in the game (it wasn't really told what happened to her but people assumed that she's gone because she just disappeared as the castle collapsed -_-): clearly the makers of the book are fans of this game to reintroduce a character like Serena ^_^
I used to edit the dot.nod game files to make the NPC enemies harder, used to make Vukodlaks AVG immunities to fire, lightning, etc, which started at 65% to all damage, and raise them to 85% avg or 95%! Or give him more and more powerful Discipline levels. His health starts at 3000.By the time you throw the Austrian fool into the molten pit, your party are all 300 health each "Malthusians". Played this 19 times from start to end. All time fave game, tied with Planescape Torment.
Was Libussa talking about her own experiences, or pulling a Malkav and prophesying what will happen to Christoff in the future? Or was she simply remembering the time she was stuck in a barrel that an elder Tzimisce bugged out on?
@tangledfish Libussa was retelling her own experiences. I own the original release, pre ordered it in Early 2000. Love finding all her journal entries in the Castle dungeons.
Hi Outstar, or anyone else who is knowledgeable enough with the background lore. I am working at a concept for a PC. He is supposed to have been a combat medic in WW1, before he was turned into a ghoul, to provide his master with fresh blood from the fallen. What Camarilla clan is most likely to have had individuals with ties to the German Imperial Reichswehr? I am not necessarily thinking about an officer (that might work, too, but explaining how he could follow military procedure while sleeping all day every day might make the story a bit clunky), rather a mad scientist working at bioweapons, or even a "patriotic" industrialist who sponsors such research. Tremere seems fitting with the mad scientist theme, but I am not sure about the Vampire politics in 1914 in Europe. Nationality might be preferably German, or possibly somewhere from the Austria-Hungarian kuk Empire. Italian in an absolute pinch only, as Italy was allied with the Central Powers at the start of the war.
Serena was always my crush in this game. Despite the romantic arc between Christof and Anezka, however shallow and underdeveloped it may have been, I did wish for there to be an option for Christof to choose Serena. Even though I have never played through the whole story, I have a distinct feeling that this isn't that type of game. Also, I'm pretty sure that Serena can learn Spirit's Touch. It's like level three or four Auspex ability. It really does save on having to always use scrolls to identify magic items, so I would have her learn it asap.
Glad Catherine came back in Shadows of New York because as much of an underrated gem as VTMR was, the graphics here make her look like an upright caterpillar
@@Outstarwalker I used to watch him play solo games ^^. Fun dude ith weird but good jokes! I kind of lost him when he started doing more co-hosting and arts though. I miss him a little :).
If I remember correctly Golconda isn't just achieved by fighting to keep ones humanity. The way to Golconda is in an acceptance of the beast and balancing it with your humanity.
hey nice gameplay, you know if you upgrade the common discipline you can get skills to indentifying, ressurrect and open portal and never need to keep scrolls again
Well, it's fortuned for the fellow that he did not "settle for Serena". Given the fact that she is a Cappadocian and they are destined to go extinct by the middle of the game. Widowhood is the one and only charming marital status, sure, but it would still work poorly for that story I think. Unless he decided to go deep into necromancy and the story included a lot more elements of Wraith The Oblivion to match this love story between a vampire and a Wraith. If they wanted to make it a crossover I would ratter suggest a Rokea lady instead. If memory serves me well they are the one werebeast race that do not die from old age. Mummy would work well too, but that's a bit too much unbalance of power in favour of the mummy, perhaps.
I just started playing this game. My game appears to have this problem where even though I have auto-cast disciplines off, they do it anyway. Meanwhile, I've maxed out Christoph's feed ability. So every single fight, Serena runs in and drops massive bombs, wipes out everyone, while Christoph drains enemies to death. The fight ends with Christoph's blood pool maxed and Serena's blood pool empty. So if you were in favor of Christoph dropping Anezka for Serena, in my game, Serena wrecks everyone and mostly keeps Christoph around as a blood doll.
There's a film from the 1920s called Das Golem. It's really good. Not as good as Nosferatu or the Cabinet of Dr. Whatsit, but still really, really good.
This game is significantly better than I remember it being... Of course, back then, it wouldn't run properly because my computer was too crummy. Now it won't run properly because my computer is too powerful.
towards the beginning, it seemed like Anezka had true faith, I think Christof might have corrupted her faith with his dirty mind, thus screwing her since she's no longer protected by her faith
Beware, Outstar. Mortis is buggy..if you dont want to exploit the unlimited xp feature dont use " shambling hordes". " Awaken" is "featured" to. "Feed" is what you want because with rank5 you can feed from nearly every enemy whenever you want ;) But the voice actores in these games where great. And brandls armour is nicely designed.
Shambling Hordes and Awaken aren't exactly even irritating when used accidentally, even if they can be exploited on purpose. Theft of Vitae and Tongue of the Asp are better than simple feed. Both an attack and resource gathering.
@@Outstarwalker It's better to fasten the seatbelt, because the trip will be bumpy and crazy, sometimes I thought my team was a pack of Malkavians lol, you will see later ;)
Outstar, you usually let the game voiceover play through and do not talk over it. Is it possible to make the voice volume a bit louder? In comparison it's really quiet
You want to keep characters ''wits'' high, cuz low values causes characters to enter frenzy very easily, and it will be a problem when fighting some enemies who can shoot fireballs at you.. ;) But it's so funny when they enters frenzy lol
Have you heard the latest rumours? Galinol has an affair with his secretary! And his wife is doing the mailman... or feeding on him... during daylight!

Really enjoying your Vampire content and this playthrough. Played this game so many years ago and just now found out Serena was voiced by Tara Strong.
Serena is useful as a caster, she can learn spirit touch (just one dot is enough for this power), "heightened senses" allows you to find secrets and see the nosferatu.
Christof:
Fortitude - After getting the reliquary of Saint George, Nosferatu Tunnels last part.
Blood Rituals - Haus De Hexe Laboratory.
Serpentis - After giving final death to Lucretia. So this doesn't help against the Tremere but later fire hazards.
Wilhem:
Gets no discipline protection from fire.
Serena:
Fortitude - Starts out with it.
Erik:
Fortitude - Starts out with it.
Pink:
Fortitude - Gets it from the Tower of London.
Lily:
Gets no discipline protection from fire.
Samuel:
Fortitude - NYC Sewers
Otherwise you can always dodge Fireballs and Firestorm with your controlled character, especially while using Celerity. Best to control the one who does not have protection.
Celerity:
Christof - start
Wilhem - start
Serena - won't and can't
Erik - after killing Luther Black
Pink - start
Lily - start
Samuel - after killing Orsi
FYI Ecaterina is voiced by the same person as Pisha in Bloodlines.
The beast rises in Outstar, strirring and gnashing its teeth, urging her to devour the pancakes entirely and consume their very souls.
I love this series !!! Thank you outstar 😊
SERINA’S XP EXPENDITURE
Serena’s initial XP will come from the Quest to the Nosferatu Warrens, so there will be combat….
DEX 35+ also allows Serena to use a Longbow; a skill that she may need for a while until she gets access to “Lure of the Flames.”
FURTHER XP USAGE: Following gaining STR 35 and DEX 40-45 with developing Auspex. Developing just one dot “Spirit’s Touch” will free the party from having to pay for expensive Spirit’s touch scrolls. At this point, stop spending XP until Serena gains access to the Discipline “Lure of the Flames.”
Serena’s starting Intelligence (INT) = 40 will allow her to acquire one dot each of Torch and Fireball before having to acquire INT = 50/then purchase one dot of Flame Ring.
The Wife omg what happened to the Nun lmao 😂 love triangle I see it coming lol.
Libussa or Libuše is an actual mythical Czech princess and prophet. I like more beautiful depictions of her.
I wondered if it's supposed to be THAT Libuše. Good to know...
Yeah, it doesn't have to be, but that Libuse is someone. And she's a prophet, like Malkavians are, and she seems to feel defiled by being embraced.
I always thought she was just a tzimisce ghoul who just happened to be mad.
Although the female malkavian multiplayer character is her model. But multiplayer models are very liberally set up.
@@rudolphantler6309 She doesn't look tzimisce a bit
He drove me nuts (the a.i. for me, was just laughable)
What always seemed weird to me... Was, vampires SHOULDN'T dream..They "die" during the day... So who was sending the "dreams"? AND why?
I got that manual form a friend of my cousin, when I bought the game all those many years ago.
It was awesome.
Alternate timeline: cristof settles for Serena.
Anezka [hidden for spoilers]
Christof is killed by the Giovanni defending Serena
Omg. If I was playing in that VTM game, I would make my new character from the Giovanni clan and continue the story from the new perspective.
It's my favorite game ever! Glad to see that even in 2020 people still remember and love it! Thank you!
I so agree with you about Serena. It doesn't hurt Cappadocians are my favorite Clan
I give you a wake but you have no idea what this game is about, I love you smile.
Was Libussa talking about her own experiences, or pulling a Malkav and prophesying what will happen to Christoff in the future?
Or was she simply remembering the time she was stuck in a barrel that an elder Tzimisce bugged out on?
Libussa is not actually a Malkavian, she is Vukodlak's ghoul.
@tangledfish
Libussa was retelling her own experiences. I own the original release, pre ordered it in Early 2000. Love finding all her journal entries in the Castle dungeons.
*In Nines voice* "Doors and Floors sure don't like you kid." XD
Once you find Cain's son, Deckard, he identifies your items for free.
@@rylian21 Not sure if that's a Diablo reference or if it actually pertains to this game; it's cool either way though.
That Golem is one of the toughest bosses in the game. :O
Sad, we never found out what became of sweet pale serena.
Another great episode! Outstar makes everything even more fun. Love all the additional lore she provides as well.😄
Libussa: He hath taken me. He hath spilled his wickedness upon my innocent busom.
Christof: Nay such acts are evil. (Mimics Archbishop Geza.)
Glad Catherine came back in Shadows of New York because as much of an underrated gem as VTMR was, the graphics here make her look like an upright caterpillar
Ok one thing you.are adorable and to why do I feel your pronunciation of Tzimisce is the right way.
mmm... I knew these intro's were familiar. You like Cryaotic? :D
Ey, it works. :)
We're pals! He's a great guy.
@@Outstarwalker I used to watch him play solo games ^^. Fun dude ith weird but good jokes! I kind of lost him when he started doing more co-hosting and arts though. I miss him a little :).
Really enjoying this series! Great story and some engaging characters. Really well played.
I'm loving the LP SO much.
Omg i'm so early the video is only 360p :D
OMG a fellow Hungarian. Who also follows Radics Peti.
Korai as fuck.
If I remember correctly Golconda isn't just achieved by fighting to keep ones humanity. The way to Golconda is in an acceptance of the beast and balancing it with your humanity.
at the beginning wilhem used feral claw discipline
But I told him to only cast healing, wtf Wilheeeem
@@Outstarwalker The AI is rock stupid in this game and actually ignores your settings sometimes.
Casting settings need to be reclicked after each startup.
hey nice gameplay,
you know if you upgrade the common discipline you can get skills to indentifying, ressurrect and open portal and never need to keep scrolls again
Turn Aneska and have both Serena and Aneska, Christoff just messing about. Man should be starting a mini vampire harem.
Serena is my favorite character in this game and one of my favorites in any game.
ARRGGGGHHHH these bvampire games only Excite me for Bloodlines 2 Ty Outstar for playing this one Vampire Game
Pretty certain the golem is easier with bashing damage
Ma'am you don't need to carry so many flasks you'll always find more as you progress into a dungeon.
Truth to be told, i would have choose Serena...
There's a film from the 1920s called Das Golem. It's really good. Not as good as Nosferatu or the Cabinet of Dr. Whatsit, but still really, really good.
There are like 3-4 Golem films. Released in similar timeframes.
I'll have to watch the others to see if they're good.
I think he appreciates you taking out Mercurio's lackeys. Maybe the cappaboyos and cappagurls you killed were not as loyal to the primogen as we think
This game is significantly better than I remember it being... Of course, back then, it wouldn't run properly because my computer was too crummy. Now it won't run properly because my computer is too powerful.
You could always walk the abyss and empty your inventory. Also equipping that shield would free space. Never mind you did just this while I'm typing.
towards the beginning, it seemed like Anezka had true faith, I think Christof might have corrupted her faith with his dirty mind, thus screwing her since she's no longer protected by her faith
I always had a soft spot for this game, even though Christof and Anezka's love story is probably more difficult to stomach than Anakin and Padme's :P
Christof sounds so drunk all the time
8:23 TFW thy cause is not as lost as thou think'st...
Yaaaaasss! This is again so amazing! Can't wait for the next video!
I love how there is no masquerade in the dark ages
Thy Christof know's not of third love.
Beware, Outstar. Mortis is buggy..if you dont want to exploit the unlimited xp feature dont use " shambling hordes". " Awaken" is "featured" to. "Feed" is what you want because with rank5 you can feed from nearly every enemy whenever you want ;)
But the voice actores in these games where great. And brandls armour is nicely designed.
Level 5 Feeding made you a near unstoppable diablerising machine. I loved using it in conjunction with the Ainkurn Sword.
@@chavhunterofcalne2443 lvl 5 presence majesty XD. Then we can drink n peace
Shambling Hordes and Awaken aren't exactly even irritating when used accidentally, even if they can be exploited on purpose.
Theft of Vitae and Tongue of the Asp are better than simple feed. Both an attack and resource gathering.
@@rudolphantler6309 maybe. But with them the game gets boring
In any way, if you kill the challenge, the adventure becomes banal.
Excuse me lovely:
When's the next one? I dont wanna play though it myself since you give so much added info here ;)
"I sent the Golem's soul to Hell!"
Five seconds later...
"Things like the Golem have no soul!"
Okay, buddy, but what'd you send to Hell then?
Poor Christoph He has such a hard crush on the nun
Arrrgh! I love this so much Outstar :D!
I'm watching this for the commentary.
Yes ! I love your playthrough of this game! Do you intend on beating the game ?
Yep! :)
@@Outstarwalker It's better to fasten the seatbelt, because the trip will be bumpy and crazy, sometimes I thought my team was a pack of Malkavians lol, you will see later ;)
interesting. Which gog or steam, is most stable to play?
Brandl: HEEEEYYEEEYEEyyyeEyey HEEEyyeeeYYEEEYEYEY I say HEY WHATS GOING OOOOON
Thats what I hear when I see him, idk why, its that hair...
Low polygon giggady 😳 love em lol
I am annoyed far more than I should be over the incorrect "thou" conjugations.
Heh... this is sweet... she won't be doing well soon. Hehehe.
Also... I'd recommend Dontnod's Vampyr. Which borrows a lot from world of darkness
37:48 I'm Pretty sure it's called "being Brujah". :3
Can you do a Giovanni-Capadocians' video????
I swear, Chris sounds like Maurice LeMarche.
Wow. Its true. Almost every Blue haired female character gets rejected. Its not just in anime.
Have you heard the latest rumours? Galinol has an affair with his secretary! And his wife is doing the mailman... or feeding on him... during daylight!
That intro was genius XD
Is it just me ore do Outstar look alt like Leila from Vampire Hunter D - Bloodlust? when she had the blonde hair that is. =)
