    Your Inga in the front looks amazing at 3 years! Thanks for doing this video. I planted 3 small 1-gallon trees this year. Hope they grow fast like yours. I absolutely love this tree for so many reasons. People in AZ need to start planting these in their 1st year to establish a shade canopy. Not sure if you are facing this but with our cooler weather in spring, the locusts are everywhere. They are munching on many of my plants this year including the Ingas.

    • @TropicalCentralValley
      @TropicalCentralValley  Рік тому +1

      That’s wonderful.
      We’re not seeing anymore grasshoppers/locusts activity than the typical one of two typically found in the yard.
      Lots of mosquito activity though, so, my yard smells of garlic bread every couple of weeks.

    This seems to be _Inga fagifolia_ but there's also _Inga edulis_ which grows to 2-3 feet long bean pods and it's insane.
    It's called "Ingá de Metro" (meter-long ingá), some foreigners call it "giant ingá".
    Just search for "ingá de metro" and you'll come up with a few brazilian videos.
    You probably wont understand what is being said, but just take a look to get a sense of what Im talking about.

    I planted my Inga last summer and covered it during the last winter. I live in Tucson, Arizona.
    It tripled in size since last summer and is now more or less 8ft tall and 5ft wide. So it will be hard to cover it this winter. I will probably follow your suggestion and just leave it alone.

      Very nice. In many ways, your climate is far superior to mine, particularly during the winter months. We get these Tule Fog that lingers for days, blocking the sun. Your trees and vines should make it through without issues.

    I compare the flavor to a mild horchata flavor.
    Regarding the ants. They will go after the pods and farm other insects. The issue I have with this is it rains ants on you when you're in the back, in my short experience with Ingas.
    I believe you have Inga feuilleei as I have. Small nectaries are common in this one.

      Having lived in Sacramento (go Sac High) for several years in my youth, your climate is actually very slightly more favorable to tropicals than mine.
      I would try to grow it in the middle of your yard. The one growing next to the street has plenty of soil for expansion, thanks for my neighbor’s grass lawn.

      It’s very likely the Edulis variety I have. My main issue with the growing of Inga is the lack of space in my yard. They do “fine” in containers but will thrive in the ground.
      Having said that, I do have some Laurina varieties growing from seed.

    • @TropicalCentralValley

    Will those air pruning pots help curb the root growth of the inga?

    • @TropicalCentralValley
      @TropicalCentralValley  Рік тому +1

      It definitely will help. I plan on covering this topic in a future video, but under “normal” situation, as soon as the fine roots come near the open air of the drainage holes in the container, the roots should dry out, thus keeping the roots confined to the container.

    • @TropicalCentralValley
      @TropicalCentralValley  Рік тому +2

      I wouldn’t say the roots are invasive in that, unlike jujube trees, suckers will not appear away from the parent tree.
      That said, the root system can be massive. You’ll want to provide the tree with plenty of soil.
      If you noticed my front Inga, although it’s planted next to the street, thanks to my neighbors lawn, there is plenty of area for the Inga roots to stretch.
