Despite what anyone says, I really like this song as a long time fan of TMV. It’s easily their most accessible and straightforward song ever, but that doesn’t make it awful. A nice chill tune from them but I do admit that I hope the new album contains some classic TMV bangers as well.
I am with you! TMV will always be top side of my top 3 and the three songs we have got so far are so good and I am here for all of it! I can't wait to binge the new album when it drops!
complete self-delusion. like you're REALLY satisfied by it after we've had tetragrammaton for example. be serious
@@luidi7388 Day of the Baphomets is one of my favorite songs of all time but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy a more laid back song from the same band. It’s almost fascinating how little TMV fans can actually grasp the concept of being able to like multiple different songs and styles by the same artist. It will probably make more sense when the album comes out too, as I’m sure all of the tracks will be connected in some way.
@@luidi7388 yes, yes i don't want to hear tetragrammaton over & over even tho it's my all time favorite song ever.
Noctourniquet and Octahedron are both far stripped back from TMV's first 4 albums and if you are struggling to get into the more agressive stuff, I would suggest checking out some songs off those albums. Expecially Empty Vessels Make the Loudest Sounds. It's my favorite song ever and its very laid back with a beautiful interlude!
For what it’s worth, the ambient sections in the intro and outro of the video are just elements of the video itself. The three videos they’ve released from this album have all had long non-musical sections like that, but they don’t show up on the digital versions of the songs or anything. I’m guessing they won’t be on the album either
Oh, that answers that question. That's one of the negative aspects of doing music videos 😅
The Mars Volta is interesting in that they massively change up their lineup pretty much every album, leading to sometimes drastically different sounds from album to album. Possibly because of this, I find you run into mostly two kinds of TMV fans: those who mostly are fans of DeLoused in the Comatorium and Frances the Mute, comparing every other album to those two, and fans who kind of just follow whatever Omar and Cedric do with the band (and sometimes outside of it). This does lead to what feels like a lesser acceptance of their later work, but I think that it's worth checking out to get a better feel for the band and how they might find their way to making this sort of track. Octahedron was relatively casual friendly, with Cedric referring to it as Mars Volta's pop record at the time. If you want to try some of their later stuff, I'd recommend the tracks Teflon and Vedamalady from the albums Octahedron and Noctourniquet respectively.
i'm the latter type of volta fan, my favourite album from them is Noctourniquet and i also love some of Omar's albums with Deantoni Parks, i would recommend Nom De Guerre Cabal, check out the track Violet Rays Again
On the one hand, I DO find Frances and De-loused to be their absolute classics… but I’m also a big fan of the less-celebrated releases like Noctourniquet and Omar’s solo stuff like Calibration (man, Las Lagrimas de Arakuine is THAT good). I dig their pivot to Yacht-Rock / R&B styles in the new album too. Personally not a big fan of Octahedron as an album (same with Amputechture and Bedlam), but I would always recommend it to people who kind of liking some aspects of their most popular stuff but find them too much of an assault to their sensibilities for the most part. I would say it’s not exactly their Pop album in contrary to how Cedric saw it, but it’s definitely their more subdued album with a strong leaning to the Ballad-side of their music. More people should check it out to ease themselves in to the world of Volta 👍
ive been a fan of Omar and Cedric since the At the drive-in days (yea, im old), and besides the point that i am glad they put TMV back togheter, i get really excited when they move forward with their sound.
Altough i love the old albums, and still listen to them alot still, i wouldnt want them to get stuck and comfortable, i like that they are truly progesive and trying to move their music forward, and as other have said this is not really a " pull the rug under your feet" moment considering the direction of their latest album Noctourniquet (2012), wich i really loved just as much as say Frances the mute or The bedlam in goliath.
And as you hinted at they created their own magical musical world that i adore, its not for everyone and thats awesome, it would be boring if we all thought the same.
People bitching about these new TMV videos probably didn't spend the time to listen to all of Omar Rodriguez's Lopez Productions 70 albums that were released : Aka: Volta without corporate strings. They have already written an entire Universe of music nobodies ever heard of it's just that most people haven't taken the time to figure this out.
Excelent analysis Bryan!
I'm a big old school fan of them, and i loved this track. First listen was weird... but then i realized... it's Mars Volta's approach to a radio friendly pop song. And from that perspective, it's artistically impressive.
Greetings from Buenos Aires.
I love that every TMV release is orthogonal to the last one. Never get too comfortable! This song is sickeningly sweet, and growing on me with every listen.
This 100%. I felt a sense of almost betrayal when I first listened to the song. Not too dissimilar from when I listened to Noctourniquet the first time through...lo and behold 'In Absentia' is now one of my absolute favourite TMV tracks. I don't think this one will end up in quite the same category but this one is growing on me.
This sounds like "Happy Volta". Something I don't think I've heard before. I love it but I definitely didn't expect it.
Ive listened to most/all the albums multiple times. I see you are pretty well informed on this band already. Yes this song does not represent what we know of the MV, but I have always given them a pass on whatever they produce since their early albums captured something important to me. I would say the first 4 albums are really worth a listen, while the later ones are more for the hardcore fans. What they capture is maybe what I think King Crimson (and others) tries to capture, some kind of meaningful nonsense, a meandering story with unexpected events that are sometimes bombastic, holy, overwhelming, sincere, over the top dramatic.. its very contradictory while also being all these things at once.
Honestly, I think if you want to maximise your experience I would consider just listening to one album fully on your own, if and only if you actually want to :) The first listen isn't necessary be the best, but for me it really built the intrigue to then revisit them. I mean I'm not composer like yourself ^^' so I might be more "magically" transported the music than you (not that you do not get lost in music also, I hope you understand) and I dont have to analyse it like you do soo.
You kinda need to see the whole canvas before you can understand what the painting. Or rather; each song is a painting so you kinda have to visit the whole gallery before making judgement.. This is not Slayer, although I love Slayer.
🖤Slayer🖤
Thanks for sharing your musical expertise, I love your videos. I think your lyrical interpretation was pretty spot on. The singer got really into scientology for a few years around 2010, but left when his wife and several other women accused a prominent scientologist (danny masterson, vaguely famous actor) of sexual assault and rape. The trial starts later this year. It seems like a theme in a lot of his recent lyrics has been 'retribution' surrounding this topic (in my opinion, he also says his lyrics are meaningless a lot of the time, but who knows!). The last few lines fit into this for me as him speaking to his wife "I know it's almost over, I'll be with you". As a longtime Volta fan, I am digging this new sound of theirs.
I'm a Mars Volta fan and I love it
I'm a big TMV fan but feeling pretty confused by the new direction they are going in. Can't say I love it personally.
I'm also confused why someone would request that you react to Cassandra Gemini next. That's not going to end well. Lol
Still hoping for a De-loused in the Comatorium album reaction.
Oh yes, Cassandra Gemini won't end well for Brian, that's for sure. Be prepared for more confusion. I absolutely love this track hahaha :D
Since you like TMV at their more mellow and "pop" side, then for the future reference - when they released "Octahedron" they claimed it's their pop album (or even acustic). Of course it's still crazy, but definitely more song-structured and with more catchy melodies. At first TMV was difficult for me to understand and I'd say that "Halo of Nembutals" from this LP was the song that clicked for me first. So maybe not the best album in general, but a good place to start for some.
I Love the 3 new tracks, released so far & it feels like maybe what they were originally intending Noctourniquet to be, which became something else entirely?
I've been a mars volta fan for a while now and honestly I think this is a masterpiece. I hope they carry on in this direction, it has a great hook and this strange 90's pop sound I think works amazing. My favourite tracks from them even though I love there overall sound is when they make a left turn and it works!
That's awesome to hear! I'm looking forward to this album moreso than anything else I've heard from TMV.
Been a Volta fan for some time, and I can say I really love the self title. It is them at their most refined,
Awesome reaction and discussion, like usual. Maybe a bit generous for a song this simple lol.
I think at some point you asked if they ever wrote simple pop songs? The answer is yes. Almost every album has at least one 4 minute pop track, usual designed to be the lead single. Ive enjoyed them all, but i gotta say I’m not huge on these new singles. They seem a bit bland to me, but i have a sneaking suspicion the rest of the album will be different…. Or not. You never really know with them. Which is another point i wanted to make. The Volta were always an ever evolving project. Every album explores different styles/ themes/ production techniques.
I think you would enjoy their sixth album Noctourniquet. Its not big with many fans, but its one of my favorites because it has a lot Pop structures and melodies, but tones of avante garde and electronic influences on the drum work and production.
And lastly, thanks for continuing to check out a band that you dont gel with. I do think you’ll eventually come around, it will just take the right album, right time. Cant wait for Cassandra Gemini!!
The Mars Volta goes beyond music, their albums are stories, is like listening to a book, listening to a movie if that makes sense
The Mars Volta’s music is like an Ayahuasca Ceremony.
Cedric is your Shaman guide, who’s melodies & voice helps keep the listener grounded & provides a connection & a path to follow Omar’s music.
It’s engaging if it doesn’t always make sense to the listener.
There’s an inherent Groove & Rhythm, even at it’s most chaotic.
Cedric’s voice & Melodie’s are like an old friend you’re glad to see, Cedric’s lyrics are like stories told entirely in metaphors, and can really only exist over music made to be intentionally challenging.
It’s the familiar, juxtaposed against the abstract.
It’s “world music” with a Punk Rock aesthetic.
It’s the pretentiousness of Prog, executed with the humility of a Southern Rock or Blues artist, who have an immense love of Duran Duran.
Oooh, I didn't even know this was out yet. I'll probably listen on my own time and come back to check out this reaction after I've heard it.
this is my favourite single so far, the album is coming in like 2 days? i'm really excited
I love their early guitar based albums but also Nocturniquet I return too probably more. Which is slower and more electronic. This song is different though, its an indie pop rock song. My guess is every song on the new album will be completely different, just like the three singles weve had so far.
This is nice - sounds like a more refined and confident take on what they were doing with Noctourniquet. I'm actually glad they aren't just rehashing the sounds from Frances/Bedlam, as much as the fanbase might want it, I'm not sure there's a ton of room to do new and interesting things with that dynamic. Expecting a lot of variety from the record, all the singles are very different so far and we are getting 15 tracks! I'm getting some Bjork and Peter Gabriel vibes a little bit and reminds me a bit of some of the collaborations Robert Fripp has done with pop artists (like Daryl Hall for example) over the years.
This is a really fun track and I'm excited for the new album, even though they seem to be losing a lot of chaotic Post-Hardcore elements that I fell in love with originally. I do hope that the chaos comes storming back at some point, considering how many tracks are on the album, but I think I'll be content with whatever comes out after the decade long hiatus.
I am very excited for the Cassandra Gemini reaction! Based off of your previous reactions to Frances the Mute songs, it's bound to be a fun one 🤪.
The chaos will certainly return. Omar can't control himself.
I've been a volta fan since around 2005-06 and have been anticipating this album for a decade. I gotta say, I'm pretty disappointed with what i've heard so far. This song in particular embodies almost none of the qualities that made me fall in love with them. The ending is cool, but it's just a short, watered down Eunuch Provocateur. I really hope this song makes more sense in the context of the whole album, and I hope we get at least few chaotic bangers.
I see what you mean
This what I've been saying this whole time with these latest singles. Just not feeling em at all, I'm hoping for he same as well maybe they're holding back their good stuff but so far not looking forward to the new sound.
Just heard this for the first time here with you, feel a bit like rug pulled from under me as well. It… sounds good? It also weirdly sounds like them but not at the same time. I’ve heard more softer, melodic songs (from Octahedron mostly) but this sounds a lot more electronic. BTW, you’ve heard songs from three separate albums, only two songs from Frances the Mute, “Cygnus, Vismund Cygnus” and “L’via L’viaquez”, where Cassandra Gemini is from (there are two other songs, plus a separate single). The first song you heard was Inertiatic ESP (from Deloused in the Comatorium), which you liked in its entirety.
I'll have to give Deloused a listen if I enjoyed that one track. I vaguely remember it being kinda jammy but otherwise that side of TMV has been replaced with the abrasive side of Frances the Mute in my mind.
The phasey noises are the sound of a moog mf102 ring modulator
Thanks for another reaction Bryan. Sure would love to know what some of your favorite bands/artists/recordings are.
I get asked this often enough that I should probably make a video about it. When it comes to rock/metal my absolute favorite bands are The Used and The Human Abstract.
I'd highly recommend listen Cedric's music (Zavalaz, particularly) in order to understand Vigil. Nobody expected a kind of power balad from Mars Volta but it's amazing see them do whatever they want to.
This song is interesting but the two previous singles from this upcoming album are better imo.
agreed
Nah this one's my favorite of the 3 for sure. Love the chill psychedelic vibes throughout
You gotta react to Asilos Magdalena by them. I think you're gonna love it.
Long time fan. I think this record is going to be pretty divisive. Many just aren’t ready for a clean, popishly approachable album from TMV. I’m getting old, so I’m kind of hear for it. We’ll find out soon.
Avid fan of Mars Volta. Personally I really like Blacklight Shine, but their most recent three singles, while solid, are not why I got into Mars Volta. They fortunately keep a lot of their layers here but it's pretty... conventional? It's like the exact opposite of what I listen to them for. I'm confused more than anything else. Why is this under the band "The Mars Volta"? It feels kinda like this more of an Omar Rodriguez-Lopez side project (He has a lot, I recommend Bosnian Rainbows and Antemasque) that happens to have Cedric Bixby-Zavala (Vocalist).
Cassandra Gemini is gonna be quite a ride based off of how you felt about Tetragrammaton lol
In all honesty these recent TMV tracks remind of how Chicago fans reacted when the band went from “I’m a Man” and “25 or 6 to 4” to the ballad of “If You Leave Me Now”. It’s a good song but completely different.
That's always going to happen but I'm always happy to hear bands change things up, even if the result is something that bounces off of me.
I know this didn’t land for a lot of TMV fans, but I kind of dig it. It reminds me of drugs-era Beatles, where it’s got saccharine pop elements coupled with some odd elements, sort of a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down situation.
The reaction reminds me of everyone’s excitement over Metallica’s post-St. Anger return to thrash albums, where they excitedly referred to them as “the album(s) that should have come after And Justice.” And if those albums had dropped in 1989, I’d have probably been excited for them. Maybe I’m weird for this, but I don’t particularly want to see a band come back from a long hiatus to crank out more of the same. I adore pretty much everything TMV did during the 2000s/early 2010s, but it would have felt like a bit of a letdown for me if a decade later they put out something interchangeable with what they’d done before. It would maybe be one thing if they had an album or two in that sound, but when I want classic TMV, I have over 6 hours of music to choose from. I kind of want to see what they’re bringing to the table with a decade of growth, development, and new influences.
Apparently what they learned over that decade was restraint, which is a bit weird, I have to admit, but I dunno, it’s a good record, and I’m curious to hear more in a way I probably wouldn’t be if I’d gotten another hour of zany, high energy, throw every note at the wall and see what sticks hard rock.
The song you remembered enjoying was probably The Widow. If you’re looking for palatable TMV, that’s about your best bet.
In regards to the intro it is the same peepers sampled for Miranda off Frances the mute. I think I remember omar stating the samples are from Puerto Rico. The 3 new tracks and videos Puerto Rican history and culture are central and not surprising given Omar’s native to PR. One of the other tracks videos (maybe black light shine) has extended intro/outro of bomba music and dancing accompaniment and I’m curious if these are just for the purpose of the “short films” or are also incorporated into the new album. Lyrically, sounds like Cedric’s take on of church of Scientology attempt to hush rape allegations against Danny Masterson, which involve Cedric’s wife and the resulting fallout. My take is instead of getting some wild narrative we’re getting autobiographical experiences of Omar (Viva La Puerto Rico) and Cedric (Fuck Scientology) Really appreciate your critical analysis of the track. I think there’s a lot that’s being overlooked as people dismiss this as bland pop music. I’m excited for the new release and even though its energy isn’t going to be like their earlier albums I think it’ll still contain some creative/interesting/challenging composition in subtler forms.
This album is definitely shaping out to be an evolution of the sound they were going for on their last album before they split up. Haven't at all had that rug pulled out from under me feeling. Especially with some of Omar's solo records being pop albums and again this just sounds like an evolution of Noctourniquet. I love them so far, all 3 tracks they've released have been really killer
Same here, just after 2-3 listens of those tracks I find something interesting in all of them, so I think I'm going to like the rest of it. They can still write engaging melodies and that's important for me.
Evolution of the mars volta sound....or an evolution into more marketable and radioplayablity ....
Cderic is still my favorite vocalist and lyric writer....but this....this is a completely different sound energy which in turns means its not mars volta ....its like taking an action movie ....taking the action out filling it with rom com bullshit and then marketing it as an action movie...should have just formed a new band. Hes right its not rock its adult contemporary pop music
@@printisdead1983 watch out man that fedora might rip as a result of your ever expanding brain
@@droptherapy2085 why,did yours do the same ?
Huge MV fan. I can play all their shit on drums. It’s not hard on my ears. But the drum and bass grooves are not interesting like the past work. And I know the current drummer is probably the most talented. Just doesn’t have what I like from them.
Early 2000s vibe!
Feels like 311 slash Incubus early stuff. I dig it
Die-hard fan here: utterly disappointing, not because accesibility but because lack or originality. Antemasque was amazing and accesible but this? This is throwaway demo stuff...
I respectfully disagree. Mars Volta wouldn’t give us “throw away demos” …. You think they’re just trolling us?
This is probably my favorite of the three new Mars Volta tracks, but judging from these three...if the rest of the upcoming new album is similar, then I expect it to likely be my least favorite Mars Volta album of all. However, I do still hold out some hope that they are holding back the best stuff and will actually surprise me with at least one or two amazing new songs...fingers crossed.
I love that perspective, that you enjoyed the song but wouldn't want a whole album of this. That's a fantastic way of viewing this track, especially for long time fans who might be expecting heavier or more chaotic ideas.
Octahedron had me feeling like this. But it has some of my favorite songs on it. That's why I love the music: the hell with my expectations.
@@CriticalReactions Here’s what is strange about TMV compared to other bands, Cedric & Omar have 3 bands that express their musical partnership.
All 3 bands are pretty distinct, even though these new songs are short, less chaotic, less heavy, they still “Feel” like TMV.
They wouldn’t fit on an At The Drive In or Antemasque, album.
I’m trying to think of the word to attach to what makes it TMV?
“Experimental” & “Progressive” have too much baggage.
The 3 songs so far, sound like they were exploring, engaged, & not “contrived”.
When artists follow their “Muse”, instead of making what they think they should make, it’s usually really good.
It would’ve been so easy for TMV to make six 10 minute songs, that go off on tangents.
It sounds like they’re being adventurous in how they make music and how they think about themselves and I’m here for it!
@@TheStacanova The Mars Volta is like if Fugazi started worshipping King Crimson
you would really like Lapochka or maybe Vedamalady by them.
For some insight into the lyrics, this album has a lot of Cedric's recent personal experiences woven into them. His wife is currently involved in a legal battle as she is one of the women accusing Danny Masterson of rape. This stems from a time where Cedric and his wife became involved in Scientology only to face a significant amount of harassment from the church when they tried to leave and bring charges against Danny Masterson (also a Scientologist). Apparently they even poisoned and killed their dogs.
Definitely a new direction for these guys. I do like this song best of the 3 new ones.
From what I remember the songs you have reacted to are from 3 albums not including this song.
Oh! I had to look it up but you're right. Francis the Mute is certainly my most reacted to; which I know because I associate that album art with so many emotions of their music. I see that red hood and I know I'm in for a tough listen 😅
If you're looking for something where they didn't flip the lid too much and also what could be a good entry point for a casual rock music enjoyer, then perhaps Eriatarka from their first album.
I totally forgot that I heard Inertiatic ESP from their debut and gave it a glowing analysis. I've added Deloused to my listen list now. I figure that's a good place to start my TMV journey given what others have told me.
I would love to see you react to a latter period Scott Walker song, like Epizootics! for instance ua-cam.com/video/2Ih7KzKLLWA/v-deo.html
Scott started out as 60's baroque pop singer, first as part of the group The Walker Brothers and then as a solo artist and as time went on his compositional style became more and more out there and avant-garde, baring no resemblance to any particular style of music. Complelely unique but quite influential, having been cited by artists like David Bowie, Brian Eno, Radiohead, and others as inspiration.
The new album threw me off massively. I didn’t even like it for the first little bit, but just like when I first heard them I didn’t like them, and then I heard them a second time.
I feel like every album is pretty different. So I'd expect nothing less, can't way for the release
It is a pop album, they call it a Pop album, but I really love that pop album. And I hate pop. That´s what TMV made me do.
I will be shocked if you can make it through all of Cassandra Gemini.
I'll do it. It might be with a grimace on my face or a quick sigh of relief when it's over, but I'll do it. And who knows, maybe this'll be the one that gets TMV to click for me :)
Either the clipping was intentional, or you broke the guitarist's heart and wholly validated his neuroses
Well I know you do have this love hate relationship with them I was always hoping that you would get to Cassandra. Really can’t wait for that video! Your total time for your UA-cam channel review may be close to two hours though lol. I guarantee you have never unpacked a song like that one will.
It'll be in a rare company of over 3-5 songs that are in that length that I've checked out.
to me, Day of the baphomeths is his best work
It Wilts!! Deloused and Frances are TMV’s 2 best albums hands down. Amputechture is where things started to go south. It’s still a good album but not at the level of Deloused or Frances, this is also the last album Jon Theodore played on. The Bedlam in Goliath is unfortunately the last good album TMV put out.
I think that Amputecture wasn't too far off from Deloused and Frances, but definitely agree that every album after fell short of expectations.
Ooh I fucking hate when people express their opinion as fact. One time a black metal fan called me a weaboo for liking newer behemoth stuff.
Im probably the biggest atdi fan and loved those first three m.v albums had that ENERGY.....this...this is straight pop music adult contemporary ...yea theyve. Grown or matured or whatever but you dont always grow into a better version some mature into worse versions....this is the latter. It sounds like something that would be in a lexapro add spot....side effects may include.....and we got a bunch of fans coping ....sorry guys music as a whole is dead...im sorry but it is...at least in the mainstream...it has been for a while
Have you not checked out anything from their first album, De-loused in the Comatorium? Only tracks from the next album, Francis the Mute? I prefer De-loused as a more aggressive prog album, and even some of their albums after Francis the Mute...
I was reminded that I've heard Ineratic ESP and recall enjoying that one so De-loused is probably a great place for me start.
@@CriticalReactions definitely recommend listening to the De-loused album in its entirety as well, as the first two albums are concept albums that are to be enjoyed that way. All of the build up and jumps and many left turns that their music take to also give a mood to the story they see telling. You are supposed to feel uncomfortable some times because the subject matter requires it.
Best way to explain why so many that love their albums is because the album taps into all the human emotions, not only to be enjoyable. Omar, the guitarist, is very pure with what he produces in that he wants what he is trying to convey be true to itself, just like human emotion, messy, confusing, frustrating and rewarding, among other things. I think he likes to mess with expectations as well, keeps you on your toes, but like in life, you will be disappointed with too many expectations.
@@CriticalReactions deloused is a pretty solid album. Not sure if you would like it though.
Damn it sucks to hear they just dont hit for you at all. Im one of those people who think they are incredible but I also love experimental music more than traditional music like what it sounds like youre more into
Experimental music isn't a catch-all because it basically describes anything less traditional. It's not like a more rigidly defined genre such as Swing or Rock. With that said, I enjoy some experimental music but can't stand others. I do tend to enjoy experimentation in theme, emotion, and melody though, less so experimentation for experimentation sake (which is where I put TMV). I don't feel their abrasive elements add to the track in the same way that many 20th Century Classical composers do. For me, TMV's eclectic additions detract from my experience.
@@CriticalReactions makes sense for sure man! I still like your take on music too and everything just makes me sad not one of their songs has been a great experience for you 😆. Hope you have a good one brother.
The song is about Scientology, FYI
Just gotta say that sucked, i don't come to TMV for this stuff. That was something else. Not my cup of tea.
Imagine saying you're a composer without giving references. Then saying the things you said in this video that totally discredit "composer" as your title.
Do you....do you think that all composers have the same taste in music? Or do you believe that because I disagree with your opinion about a song that I magically no longer write music?
@@CriticalReactions I believe that you're not a real composer but you think your opinion is somehow important.
Give us your credentials
And your statements are not "opinion" - you are attempting to explain something about the songwriting, not an opinion. But yet your statements aren't factual in any way.
No wonder you can't even top 5k views with a very popular act as your subject.
You're not a composer, quit clickbaiting.
I place links to my music in several forward facing places on both my channel and on every video. You're free to listen to the music I've written whenever you like.
And I don't think my opinion is important. But there are lot of people who find my perspective and insight to be valuable. I've stated many times that I'm just some dude on the internet who loves music and understands how musical ideas and theory can be used to express certain ideas or emotions. I don't feign importance because, in the world of art, there is no omni-voice.
My videos don't break large numbers because I have a niche format. Long form videos where a majority of it would function 90% as well as a podcast doesn't do well on UA-cam, neither with the algorithm nor with the core audience. And I'm fine with that. I'm not trying to be UA-cam famous. I have an amazing community and I enjoy what I'm doing.
A bit of an aside, I do what I can to elevate. I find positive elements in every song so that even if a song doesn't work for I can still appreciate it on some level or incorporate a compositional technique from it into my own writing. I also analyze up and coming bands in order to both provide some free peer review and showcase their music to a (hopefully) larger audience. To be the bigger person here, would you like for me to feature one of your songs on the channel?
I was rude to not have dropped a link for ya. Here's one of my classical pieces. Unfortunately I didn't have a small orchestra to record this so it is MIDI. The music is solid, the production is not. Again -- I'm a composer not an audio engineer soo 😅 www.bandlab.com/criticalcomposer/surprises-through-the-forest-draft-1-ba5aeb84
He can't tell whether to hate the Mars volta or respect them.
They aren't for everyone. Them and tool are my favourite bands in recent times. That said, this new sound isn't the one. I do not like this.
I 100% respect and appreciate them for what they do. TMV has rarely been *for me* but I love that they exist and continue to do whatever they want to do, primarily focusing on the art of music and their self-expression.
@@CriticalReactions all good bro I am a big tmv fan but their last 3 albums are not great imo. Listen to this shit.....no need for reactions but you might really enjoy them.
Hrvrd - ghost

Vela ceras - new Orleans
Wishwell - say what

Peter cincotti - broken children
At the drive in - enfilade
Atlas of Id - cataclysm. Volta ripoff but that's a good thing imo

Red hot chilli peppers - califoniacation
Jamiroquay - cosmic girl
Traumatik - psychadelic ascension

Beach Boys god only knows
Pendulum - propane nightmares
Mars volta - eriatarka
Frank sinatra - my way
Dream theatre - on the backs of angels
Dear hunter - Lillian
I pretty much like everything. Prog rock is probably my favourite genre, just because it's not shoved down my throat constantly and never gets boring.
Do you like mastadon? They are like prog metal.
ok by it and bynow we can already say TMV is over. to defend it is to "prove" you're a fan-no-matter-what" - congrats bro
Hate all 3 of the new songs
Thats not the Volta👎
