@@wqv5423ln My sister is 82+ and lives in a small town government-run small attached bungalow (side-by-side) in SK, gets the minimum pension from the government, her husband died and left her 7 years ago with $9K in debt, and pays $625 for her rent, plus hydro. She runs a car, gives to her church, gardens in the summer, visits shut-ins and local friends and her daughters, one of whom lives in that small town. She has been able to save enough money to buy 2 separate GIC's (I told her not to lock them in again, at her age, even if she is in good health, that is a leap of faith). She doesn't skimp on buying groceries, but the local grocery is quite expensive because the owners are having to recoup delivery costs to the small town. She and another friend will motor to Yorkton and stock up on non-perishables and meats on sale. She has just purchased an older home that she will move into in the spring, (the heating system needs to be fixed, or she would move into it) eliminating the rental cost, which she will plow into improving her new abode. She is living proof that living on low income can be done and life can be quite sweet if one concentrates on spending one's income on NEEDS, not wants. I know most people are having financial issues because they are paying so much for housing. See what you can do. I'm a low-income senior, too.
As an atheist, I don't want to die. Some say the victims of violence and or frostbite and or starvation go to a better place, but politicians never say otherwise, and that's problematic to the point we distract ourselves away from the willful ignorance in layers. Rurally I moved 4 hours down the road from my chucknorris right wing older brother. Some people really only pretend to care and they know who they are, and they refuse to publicly talk about it because they say willful ignorance is a human right.
Wait until you read the fine print... The GST only comes off for booze that's under 8% alcohol content, meaning a good chunk of wines won't qualify. Oh, and most Spirits aren't included either. But hey, Merry Christmas care of our self-styled Emperor!

The future of the world (both economically and demographically) sure looks bleak. Canada fits right in. Lets all work to make it better, not moan about it.
Depends on what you buy. Why is it Trudeau's fault? Post-COVID prices have sky-rocketed for almost everything. Before COVID, I was paying slightly less than $200 to have my furnace and air-conditioner yearly maintenance. Post COVID, the same company bills me for over $300, their maintenance workers don't even collect payment after they finish, which they did before, one signs a work order and get billed via email a couple of weeks later, because some home-owners get riled up about the increased price and abuse the maintenance workers verbally, some even ordering them out of their house. The new costs were more than 50% increase. I don't believe an elected official can order the furnace people to roll back their prices. The home-owner has to find another, hopefully, cheaper maintenance on their furnace.
I've purchased groceries at one shop that filled my cart for less than $100, but I've also purchased groceries at another shop that don't even fill one bag for more than $100. Depends what it is. It is the companies who have increased their prices post-COVID in order to recoup their COVID losses and have kept them there, with shrink-flation and increased prices to cover freight costs. Sorry, but they've all done it. I get past the worst high costs, I'm on a fixed income, by buying basics around the walls in the grocery, like fruits and veggies, bakery, dairy, fresh meats, buying at an outdoor local market and planting a raised garden during the summer. Non-perishables and laundry soap get purchased when there is a sale and I stock up so that I don't have to pay full prices later. I live and eat very well, not buying processed foods and frozen meals but making my own from scratch, by-passing all those chemical preservatives put in those. Grocery prices are bound to go up a whole lot more in January if Rump south of the border deports the migrants who harvest vegetables and work in meat plants for shipping to our grocery markets. The US federal minimum wage is $7.25, migrants get paid less than that, Americans don't want to do the dirty jobs migrants do, and fields are going to have to move to "U-pick" operations if they don't want to go out of business and that usually only works for small fruits like strawberries, blackberries and blueberries. Then there are the issue of Rumps 25% tariffs - if the grocery bothers to keep any fresh veggies in stock (I walked into a local small meat market last week, they only had 3 heads of lettuce, half a dozen celery stalks, some oranges and apples, onions, carrots and potatoes), these will be very expensive: If the head of lettuce costs $3.25 in your grocery now, add 25% plus the exchange on the 82 cents increase, which would increase that to over $5 a lettuce head. If you are concerned about your grocery basket now, it is going to be a whole lot higher soon. Even if Canada takes to buying fruits and produce from Mexico, unless they put them on boats to the west or east coasts and distribute from Vancouver or Halifax to various cities in order to bi-pass duties on trucks moving through the US in order to get to Canadian markets. I don't know the answers, we need to check into these issues before or as they arise in order to understand why our grocery costs have risen so much.
It's all on rich people stuff. Potatoes are $9.00 for a 10 lb bag. It should be $3.00. All staples should be cheap. I get NOTHING...absolutely NOTHING from Trum...er Justin! . I don't eat in restaurants, drink wine, I don't buy pre-made salads soups etc. I'm retired. NOTHING NOTHING NOT A DAMN THING FOR A 73 YEAR OLD SENIOR LIVING IN A CRUMBLING HOUSE ALONE ON A MEAGER PENSION.
IF YOU can't AFFORD Rent, Mortgage, Food, Hydro and Gas Bills, Fuel for YOUR car to go anywhere YOU are NOT going to be BUYING ANT OF THE ITEMS on this LIST !!! It is JUST a B!OW JOB !!!
people who need the tax break are not buying $1300 bottles of champagne and where is the break for the elderly or other low income people who have contributed all their lives. I call discrimination!
Go to the government website - there are payments that will be announced to go out in January, they just didn't want to mix working people up with seniors and people with disabilities, as they will be sending more money to the last set. Yours will be coming ...
Every country has problems with inflation - when I heard that countries were shutting down to try to wrestle COVID to the ground, the first thing that sprung to mind was - EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE SO MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE when countries open up and go back to normal again and there will be all this wailing and nashing of teeth from the electorate. And sadly, I was right. We were used to a more affordable lifestyle and this has hurt, but it is not the government's fault, companies and corporations rule the world, they just don't sit in parliament, who end up being the target shouldering the blame and get vilified by us, the consumers, and those corporations and companies are ever so happy to let them do just that, you will notice there isn't a single peep out of them. Everything costs more because those business entities are trying to recoup their losses, then the prices keep staying the same as those same businesses build up a corporate fund to so they can survive the next pandemic, which is likely to happen again, possibly sooner than expected if RFK gets vetted and installed south of the border, as he doesn't believe in vaccinations or drinking fluoridated water. When I left high school back in 1967, I could buy 3 sliced loaves of white bread at Safeway for 25 cents. Yes, 3 for 25 cents! But that was 25% of minimum wage, which was $1 an hour. (Those were the days, my friend, we thought they'd never end) Today, one loaf of the cheapest sliced white bread at Safeway is $3.25 and minimum wage is $15.80 an hour. $3.25 X 3 = $9.75, or 62% of that minimum wage hour for 3 loaves of bread, and most people make more money than that, and most people will only need to buy one loaf of bread anyway, so that would bring it down to 20.57% of that minimum wage, quite affordable if you follow my logic. So let's stop moaning and every time we purchase something, ask ourselves, do I really need this, will I ever use this, or is it just a want? For legal reasons, I will say allegedly, just my opinion.
The G & M didn't bother to check the government website - there is a payment coming in January to seniors and people with disabilities. Everybody wants to quickly report without doing any research.
The motive is the same ...to buy votes. I'm voting New Blue. As a low income senior neither govt has helped us according to our dire straights To put the icing on the cake, I along with many others nearly died in ER after waiting eight to ten hours and not seen by anyone. Recently, I had a torn meniscus and can no longer walk or drive due to the pain and dysfunction of the knee. The hospital cannot even give me an appt. for an MRI, be cause they are so back logged and have people coming from other cities. So as of today I still have no appointment and it could be spring or summer I was told. This is inhumane to say the least. After the MRI you likely have to wait six months to see an orthopaedic surgeon, and then the surgery could be another six months before you get the surgery. This is NOT HEALTHCARE FOLKS! This is third world country service. No wonder people want private health care now! Unfortunately I now have to get someone to take me to Buffalo to get an MRI, at my own expense. Since I am low income there is no extra money for this, and I will have go in debt. It's a disgrace to see our health care in such disarray, and yes, Doug Ford is to blame! He's giving out money by the millions for highways and building projects, but we cannot get healthcare! Something is wrong with his priorities! There should NO reason why we cannot get timely help in ER, or get an MRI!! Not to mention how many people cannot get a family doctor!

And of course trudeau doesn’t need it with the ridiculous salary he gets. If you’re not going to help people, at least don’t hurt /insult them.

Knowing Rumps penchant for not paying up (6 business bankruptcies), wouldn't we be better off grabbing our money back now, before he actually takes office, or will we kiss that money good-bye like his creditors did during his bankruptcies if we leave it there? Where are the answers? jmo ... allegedly, for legal reasons ...
This is just vote buying. The reason Seniors are NOT being included in this tax break is because polling data shows they will vote conservative in the next election. What makes this worse is short tax breaks like this make more work for businesses, especially small businesses to implement and then later revert back.
This money is your to start with. More "free" money in = high interest and inflation. Why people are still not demanding this person to leave? How bad can it get until the people do something? a $250 insult

It must be illegal to wear a face covering to a protest. The only reason you wear a mask to a protest is to commit crimes and acts of violence. Making this illegal will enable the police to arrest these criminals before they join the protest. But I still do not understand why these events lack adequate policing. Canada should stop holding international events until we are prepared to secure the events
If she had said good morning would have been considered antisemitic. It is always amazing how that word comes out when governments need someone to blame.
Very likely, since PeePee has managed to fan the flames against the current government. Need I remind you that Pallister did just the same in MB - it netted him a mandate and he began dismantling the health care system to the point that doctors took off to the USA or other provinces and nurses weren't allowed full time work, as that would give them benefits they had enjoyed up until then, and most preventative programs in health care got axed, and everything got centralized in various health centers. But COVID did a number on him (KARMA gets it every time), he tried to enforce the social distancing mandate and ended up quitting suddenly and moving to Costa Rica for his own safety - he and his family were getting death threats. And he was staunchly PC ... Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it. allegedly, jmo
maybe you are right but maybe you are wrong! look around you, majority of people across Canada can no longer afford basic, basic necessities. Everything has gone up. The current government is taxing us to death! For what, to give out free money which serves as a bribe for next year’s election? As far as I can see, the demographic that loves this government are the same people who are waiting for free handouts. Just how I understood it 😢.
A $250 dollars insult, and what's more insulting is people who really need it aren't going to get anything. Someone make sense of this please. Are they trying to get PP elected? Because that's going to be another doop. Step Left Poop. Step Right Poop. It's just poop all the way forward.
The $250 is just for working people. Seniors and people with disabilities have a different amount coming to them, look it up on the government website. They didn't want to confuse people, so only mentioned the one item.
This is definitely last minute vote buy, but still funny seeing people complaining about getting their money back lol. Definitely seems like a logistical nightmare with people being accidentally charged tax and the minimum wage people working the till trying to correct it on the busy holiday season. Same with covid minimum wage workers having to try and enforce mask mandates fearing they'll lose their jobs if they dont.
PM Trudeau and the Liberals giving the Conservatives a possible future through the crystal ball. Canadian provinces LGU asking Federal government rebates for lost revenues on the two months tax break. Now Canadians must ponder sincerely Conservatives plans to ax GST and more taxes they deemed unnecessary.

Sorry Justin, no Canadian cares about saving a “penny” here and there. Canadians - like older retirees - who earn less than $50,000/net per year are looking to save more than Loonies here and there. Wake up and get real. Get with the facts...
Seriously how cheap is this guy. He gives 250$ for two months only and puts a criteria where seniors and disabled are not included, then he wonders why nobody votes for him. If this is how he's gonna do things then he needs go because nothing will change. I hate to say it but a lot could do his job better than him with their eyes closed.
1:50 "....Help Canadians get past that vibe session."? Really??! For the love of God, can we please get a real Finance Minister? To think that this woman is our Deputy PM scares the bejesus out of me.
This $250 in a year. From now isn't gonna help anyone and it certainly isn't going to help seniors who are starving half the time who are out of food and money long before the end of the month. Think about that while you're discussing this crap is just another ploy. If he was going to do something he'd bring in universal basic income for everyone. And that way at least we won't starve to death
If people are starving to death, that is their own fault. They spend their money on stuff that isn't food and then moan about their lot in life, they are starving. I know seniors who spend their pensions at the casino and bingo halls, then wonder how they are going to pay for their prescriptions or supermarket food. Registering at food banks so they have more money to gamble or smoke, which are mostly tax. Some even smoke, which is shortening their life and their loved ones and killing their bank accounts. My b-i-l (may he rest in peace) spent all his old age pension on his cigarette habit, which gave him osteoporosis, shortened his 6'2" frame to 5'8", then his hip broke, he got that fixed, then the other one broke, got that fixed, then he couldn't walk anymore and died in a care home. But before that, he made life so ruinous for my sister that she died of cancer (may she rest in peace), trying desperately to keep house and home together. Oh, in addition, he liked to eat out at fast food outlets, which don't really have much nutrition at all. In short, we make our own heaven or our own hell - pick the one you want to live in.
@GrannieAnnieMB2024 your full of it. Self righteous. I'm a senior who doesn't drink or smoke and I don't use the food bank. I do accept that others need help with their mental and physical health. Life isn't fair and some people are dealt a lousy existence that is not their fault. Please focus on that situation.
Really wouldn't make any difference. You got to get to companies and corporations who have jacked up their prices post-covid and are keeping them there as a hedge against another assault on their commerce. jmo (allegedly)
It is the sign of the times - every western country has had issues, the people are restless and someone likely paid some hooligans to set fire and loot in Mtl. jmo
Ok what? So people in power should get paid by tax payers then give it back? Or just never get paid a dime? So they just burn through their personal money while in power? It is still a job you know. Go run for office and refuse pay 😂😂
Well, with that line of thinking, there will be NOBODY willing to serve in elected government, leaving it wide open for a crazed dictator. My not-too-distant ancestors fled a war-torn country when a dictator took over and tried to starve them out, I certainly DON'T want to see that enacted here. I see from other videos that there is a MAGA movement happening here, because they have assessed the fact we have a pretty hefty Bible belt that harbors a lot of people that buy into this hatred of our present government, and they are capitalizing off it - getting ready for our next election ... likely go for the wrecking-ball style that the uneducated south of the border voted for - a dismantling of everything they held near and dear, literally throwing the baby out with the bathwater ... well, vote for it and you get the government you deserve. No sympathies from me if you guys do that to yourselves (I will undoubtedly suffer alongside the morons who vote that way, but hey, that is democracy.) About down south, I read some comments that some seniors had watched what MAGA's had been purchasing down at the mall, and it was pretty much spending lots on "wants" but when it came to "needs", they were moaning about the price of eggs and other groceries, and used that as excuses for voting the way they had been. Schools really should be making sure kids, especially teenagers, know about budgeting so that they don't rack up massive debt as adults, it is hard enough to make tuition for university and paying that back without using credit cards to live the high life - someone has to pay the bill in the end, always a day of reckoning, unless one wants to wreck one's credit rating and do like Rump - go bankrupt 6 times and stiff his contractors, to the no tune that no US bank would do business with him, he had to get Putin to co-sign for him at Deutsche Bank. I will say allegedly, for legal reasons, but this is just my opinion.
The state has no source of $ other than $ which people earn themselves. The state wishes to spend more it can do so only by borrowing your savings or by taxing you more. There is no such thing as public money, there is only taxpayer $$$
The poorest >> disabled and retired people will get nothing :/ Are we nothing?? Most of us have worked our whole lives and now are retired and or disabled ♿ do to working. We are ALL not able to get our groceries too!

Please wait for the voters to decide that. PeePee has done his best to undermine confidence in the current government and is literally chomping at the bit to get in there to do his thing. A politician's first intent is to get elected and his/her second one is to stay elected. Voters have to decide which politicians will do the least harm, as no one can guarantee what they will do once in office and confronted with the tasks assigned to them. allegedly, jmo
There's no confusion for me, I wasn't planning on spending money on any of the things they said I won't have to pay GST on over the next three months. Had a tooth pulled, treats are off the menu until the hole is absorbed into the jaw. As for the rest, never wanted any of it anyway. Booze, blegh, bought a couple beers few days before the surgery in case I died under anesthesia, didn't, felt silly for wasting seven bucks. Last time I had a drink before that was July. Game consoles? Those come with data mining tools now, pass. etc.
Canada should have been at 5% 20 years ago I don't know what our problem is, but every government that we've ever had conservative or liberal. Obviously, we only have the 2 have failed miserably. I watch Bryan Maureen closed down the ship yard and stopped building ships in Canada. Why? We can't even build our own airplanes in Canada. Why we need to get our own military built up and we need to start spending some money to be ready.Cause we're not right now. We're not even close

There is GST on various items in the grocery aisles. In the bakery, if you buy a pack of 6 muffins, no GST, you buy one or more individual ones, there is GST. You obviously never check your bill or you would know that a box of 4 danish has GST levied, while a box of 6 doesn't.
what keeps the grocers just bumping up the prices by the exact amount you save on taxes? it would be a straight transfer from tax payer money to big grocers...

The future of the world (both economically and demographically) sure looks bleak. Canada fits right in. Lets all work to make it better, not moan about it.
Just stop taxing us from 170 different angles. The carbon tax is just the latest scheme. WE NEED TAX REFORM
Before Trudeau took over, you would need a cart to carry $ 100 worth of groceries...now you can carry them in one bag to your car.

Go to the government website - there are payments that will be announced to go out in January, they just didn't want to mix working people up with seniors and people with disabilities, as they will be sending more money to the last set. Yours will be coming ...

I’m 100% to vote ☑️ Poilievre!!
Yes, I’ll take the check when it comes but this whole sham is just a Band-Aid on a giant wound

Not to mention how many people cannot get a family doctor!

whatever desperation move JT does, it won’t change the fact that Pierre Poilievre will be the next Prime Minister of Canada!

How Far Out of Reality Do You Have to be??
There is GST on various items in the grocery aisles. In the bakery, if you buy a pack of 6 muffins, no GST, you buy one or more individual ones, there is GST. You obviously never check your bill or you would know that a box of 4 danish has GST levied, while a box of 6 doesn't.
@@GrannieAnnieMB2024 I dont Buy Garbage Food .... I make My Own. Junk Food are Not Groceries. I check My Bill Very Carefully
what keeps the grocers just bumping up the prices by the exact amount you save on taxes? it would be a straight transfer from tax payer money to big grocers...
If the US wants to put pressure on Canada to jack up military spending, how arrogant of them! They owe us, instead: "Annual totals are based on data from April of each year. Inflation adjusted to the 2023 calendar year. As of April 2024, the five countries owning the most US debt are Japan ($1.1 trillion), China ($749.0 billion), the United Kingdom ($690.2 billion), Luxembourg ($373.5 billion), and Canada ($328.7 billion)". Source: USA Facts. So, we OWN $328.7 billion of the US debt that could be spent on bringing our own military up to speed earlier, but no, we are expected to prop up the bully to the south of our border. We are "Jeff" to their much bigger "Mutt". I hear China has asked for some of their money back and is doing business with Bric's nations instead, leaving US farmers high and dry, (Rump has blamed Canada's farmers for his foreign policies and tariffs) buying their corn and grains from Argentina and Brazil instead. Why don't we call in our loan to them that is sitting in the US Treasury? Is it a GIC and will they ever pay up? Knowing Rumps penchant for not paying up (6 business bankruptcies), wouldn't we be better off grabbing our money back now, before he actually takes office, or will we kiss that money good-bye like his creditors did during his bankruptcies if we leave it there? Where are the answers? jmo allegedly
