    Short Clip Series Episode 1:
    In this episode fly with me as we attempt to beat a thunderstorm into the Joplin Regional Airport (JLN). Spoiler! We don’t. Enjoy this turbulent landing attempt, and eventual aborted landing as we encounter severe wind shear on short final. This was filmed onboard American Eagle (Envoy Air) flight 4075 on June 26, 2018. Expect the full version of this flight to be posted as a full Inflight Series episode soon!

    Ladies and gentlemen! Introducing a whole new series to the channel. It’s called The Short Clip. This is something I have been meaning to do for a long time. Sometimes I get good footage, that just doesn’t fit into any episode. Sometimes I feel like a moment is so special that it needs its own video. I also understand that most people don’t have time to watch a full one hour long Inflight Series episode. So, from now on I’ll be posting these “short clips” of footage that I deem as important enough to have its own short video. For those of you who do enjoy watching my full-length videos, do not fear, The Short Clip videos will not replace any of the five regular videos that I upload every week. These will be completely separate and will be posted at varying times. There will be no set upload schedule for them. They will basically be “in addition to” the five regular videos you see every week. With that being said you guys get a real treat today! For the first ever Short Clip episode you get to see a very intense aborted landing/diversion while attempting to beat a thunderstorm into Joplin, MO on a American Eagle ERJ-175! Enjoy!

    I remember being in a Jetblue ERJ-190 when there was severe turbulence during approach due to a passing storm... I've never seen a plane's wing flex so much, and we were pretty much being tossed around the cabin as we descended (unfortunately some people couldn't hold in their upset stomachs). Saw the flight path afterwards and the plane made a pretty interesting shape lol. It's always funny how calm the flight attendants are, that's when you know you're probably going to be alright!

    Captain: "Ladies and gentlemen, we got a little scared and were unable to make the landing, we'll head over to Springfield for a change of pants and get you back to Joplin...some day"...would've been hilarious.
    By the way, these passengers are ABSOLUTE PROS!! Not a peep from any of them except some casual conversation and laughing as if nothing is going on. 😁They've been on some pretty crazy flights apparently! 😁😁

    UA-cam's algorithm decided that I should watch this video. Wow!! Those T-storm clouds were Holy Shit Dark!! Looked like they may have been tornado forming clouds. The big clue is if they have spikes on the top of the thundercloud and are on the back side.
    Back in 1972, I was in a DC-10 going to West Palm Beach and we went thru thunderstorms. I saw lightning hit the wing of the plane. The drafts were tossing our plane around wildly. This was after our flight was already delayed because of a bomb scare on the aircraft. I was 13 back then going to see my grandmother for spring break.
    Later that week, we flew up to Disney World for a few days on a 2-engine prop plane. On the return flight back down to PBI, we went thru some serious thunderstorm clouds and it was tossing our plane around like you wouldn't believe.
    Excellent job by the pilot of your aircraft!

      This was the moment PIC made the decision to abort landing as he/she realized that the plane isn't in full control due to bad weather. Given the visual signs and probably prior knowledge from other pilots/atc that conditions can be bad during landing, pilots were defo ready for this scenario.

    • @weefishy9129

    a very similar experience happened to my family and I when attempting to land at Sky Harbor airport in AZ, at the exact time a Haboob was hitting the city and the storm was said to be the worst in 20 years........after three aborted landing attempts, we diverted to Tuscon for the night......there is no way to explain the terrifying feeling of severe turbulence , that is steadily increasing as the plane nears the ground........was never so glad to land and thanked the pilot for getting us safely down as I walked off ...... the pilot was very professional and said he tried his best but couldn't do it........others were unhappy we landed in Tuscon, but I told the Captain he made the right decision in getting us safely on the ground......thank you again sir, if you happen to read this......

      Definitely was a good decision. That's what pilots are trained for though! There is a reason the FAA is so strict when it comes to pilot training. I have my private license, and I know you are going through the process of getting your licenses, so we know what it takes to get to this level. Also, this shows first hand how wind shear is a scary thing, and we definitely had our fair share of it here. Also, I just messaged you on Facebook from my personal account. I just wanted to let you know here too, so you knew it was legit. As always! Thanks for watching!

    Amazing clip! Looks like at 2:46 the flight deck crew put the throttles on "TOGA" but still had a tough time with climbing out of that windshear. You could tell the pilots were pulling hard on the yoke just to get her to climb out at 1000-1200 fpm!

    • @callowayman
      @callowayman 3 роки тому +5

      @@sla31 - you can tell at 2:20 that there's some serious change in airspeed by listening to the engines oscillating in power. The pilots were having continuous trouble with controlling airspeed including TONS of manual input to the vertical stabilizer, ailerons and the rudder. Incredible job keeping the camera steady throughout all of that heavy turbulence!

    When you titled the video intense, I had no clue you meant *terrifying*! This was amazing to watch-look at the clouds at the beginning of the clip!-but must have been a white-knuckled approach and landing for you... Loved every second of this! If your other short clips are as amazing as this, I can’t wait to see them! Liked :)

    • @sla31
      @sla31  6 років тому +3

      Terrifying may have been a better adjective, but I am not a huge fan of "clickbait" so I didn't want to over exaggerate it just to get clicks. That's something that will be featured in the Short Clip series though. Instead of the very informative titles that I usually have the titles in this series will be more about what you see in the clip. I'm hoping to gain a new audience with this type of video. The ones who want to see the cool, terrifying, intense, beautiful moments, but don't necessarily have time/want to watch a full hour long video. Thanks for watching my friend! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

      JustAnAverageTraveler unfortunately for the passengers terrifying.. for the pilots upfront.. everyday mundane barely earn a paycheck stuff.
      On the line we deal with this daily and I see nothing here that would get my underwear ruffled.
      Go arounds and missed approaches are normal procedures. Windshear recognition and escape maneuvers are well trained and practiced by every airline pilot.

    • @JustAnAverageTraveler
      @JustAnAverageTraveler 6 років тому

      Steven, thank you for the reply. I would have loved to be on this flight, but I’m aware that pilots run over these situations time and time again in simulators, and that they don’t get nearly as frightened as the pax onboard. What are you a pilot of? If you’ve flown for an airline, which ones?

    I had one bad landing at Toronto International on a 747-200, (British Airways), and that was bad enough because that is a massive aircraft. We didn't abort, although it was the roughest landing I ever had. I had sympathy for people landing in smaller aircraft. A mile from the end of the runway at 1000ft we dropped 500ft and powered-up and climbed back up to the Glide-Slope. When we finally landed we were on 100% reverse thrust and I never saw an aircraft stop so quickly. As we walked into the terminal, I realized that we had to fly back to London. Walking on the ground never felt so good.
