Travel vlog 541 // Tbilisi, Georgia // Country #78 // Our first day here was awesome! The biggest highlight was visiting this old museum, which turned out to be an tour from this ex-communist leader to Stalin’s old secret underground printing press for propaganda! He didn’t speak much English, but he showed us a ton of crazy stuff and took us to the secret spot! The rest of the blog includes us re-introducing our great friend Charlie, visitING a huge local market, and hiking to the top of a mountain to watch the sunset from an old fortress :)

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this UA-cam channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Hi,I am from Saudi Arabia. Can you help me please. One Indian bastard fraud me 1000/ dollar. He is in tbilisi.can you help me.
Me too, that place is crazy 😂😂😂
4:40 That old man was asking you to donate money to the Communist Party of Georgia. 5:05 He was showing a photo of the party leader, and said that he himself is a party secretary. I had no idea that communists still own that museum.
Update: Turns out, that the museum is officially owned by National Library of Georgia, but the Communist Party has hijacked the building illegally, and they refuse to leave; and there is an ongoing legal dispute.
George Chakhidze 😂😂😂 “Now I’m the capitain” of this building

You have seen a piece of history that few people outside of the former USSR have ever seen. It is the historical equivalent of visiting George Washington's, Abraham Lincoln's birthplaces, the Liberty Bell, the Statue of Liberty, & Faneuil Hall, Boston all in one. How many vloggers can make that boast?
Fred Thorne this is a fake attraction for naive foreign tourists.
@@ErmakBrovar How can you tell? It's not that I doubt you, it's just that this guy went to a lot of trouble to move an entire printing press down a well and he doesn't seem to be making a lot of money off of this scam. Yes, it could be that he had help, nonetheless, it is interesting to see the press especially for one that seems to use the rotogravure print process circa late 19th Century.
Fred Thorne I was born in Soviet Union, I live in Russia, I know the mentality of our people. If that was a real place, it would be a huge state museum since mid 30s.
@@ErmakBrovar - Fair enough, I'll take your word. I am still perplexed at the printing press at the bottom of a well.
It's definitely real. You can find numerous articles about it (from National Geographic, Atlas Obscura, etc.) if you search for "Joseph Stalin Underground Printing House."
I really don't think you two realize just how inspirational your vlogs are! :) Love you two, happy and safe travels!!

it’s pretty romantic
One of the best videos yet. I laughed so hard throughout this. Kara getting dragged out of a tunnel, Charlie's face at 5:33, and Nate realizing where the donation went. Tbilisi is way more gorgeous than I expected though, and we missed Charlie! Where's the Australian beauty at? She's hilarious, too!
That was interesting. That printing press is a true piece of history. It's good your recorded it this is something that may not be remember when that man passes.

Actually a lot of Georgians don’t like the “communistic part of their history “
and they call this time as a Soviet occupation.(I lived in Georgia for a year,so I know it .)
PS:Thank you for an awesome vlog,as always.😊
What a nice occupation. No civil wars, a huge boost in education, machinery, jobs, birth rate and everything. And half of the country turned into nothing not long after the occupation ended.
Gimme some of that occupation.
@@AndreiBerezin well maybe because of wars started by Russia almost in every decade?
.... its cool untill a country build a wall in the middele of your City an claims it ...
@@AndreiBerezin What an ignorant thing to wish for. When you enter a country by force, publicly execute people to terrorize the nation, kill of anyone that may disagree with your methods, completely abolish free speech and expression, and rule by an iron fist, that my friend is called OCCUPATION. As for Georgia after Soviet Union, it has come a long way and is doing pretty good, considering how unlucky we are for sharing our border with imperialistic Russia that to this day keeps moving the border south, kidnaps and tortures people living close to the borders and on top of that keeps insisting that their occupation is justified.
as a georgian i love russian people but not russian politic FCK PUTIN
Maybe the guy who appeared and starting giving you a tour was a ghost?!
May be he was Stalin 😄😄😄
In a way, he is a ghost. Living in the past and romanticizing hideous dead tyrant.

I swear, most of English speakers seems to say Tiblisi instead of Tbilisi
AlexGlushkov Because it’s not easy for them to pronounce it correctly. Many can’t - not only English speaking. ;)
@@ines_uk I understand and I get if people just threw in a vowel after T, but instead they switch two letters. I guess there is a reason the city was called Tiflis back in the day.
AlexGlushkov Yes, it would take little bit of practise to learn to say it properly which would be better but... I guess these names are so foreign sounding that they get easily confused anyway. I understand that it could be annoying for locals. I’m sure they tried their best.
XD

I must say, that Soviet countries are absolutely fascinating, scary, and just the most interesting places. It's like when you went to Auschwitz. It's amazing to me how much of that sad and heartbreaking history they've retained. I'm sure it's a reminder so that the same thing can never happen again.

He could not have been the second member of the Georgian Communist Party. Operations at the house you were at began in 1906. The oldest person alive at time of recording was 6 years old. He could have been the 2nd member of any of the many Georgian Communist Parties that have sprung up over the past 3 decades.
What time of year exactly were you there? I can see the published date is Oct 17, but don't know how much 'lag' you have between filming and posting the video. When exactly was this filmed?
Please let me know, as I'm trying to plan my trip and the weather looks nice here.

Heey i am Georgian and glad u liked the city! Next time I would like to show u around Georgia! There’s so much more u have to see!
Ooooh......that staircase with no handrail. You all are braver than I would have been
My anxiety was high when you were climbing that fort and then my heart totally dropped when in the next shot Kara was walking backwards talking to the camera. Ooof. Took me .5 seconds to realise you were no longer on the fortress...had me goin' there for a sec! 😂
This is crazy: you recently started to mix-up every date of every vlog lately wich brings me to confusen and confession direspect youre channel. I’am realy sure now you will not hit the goal now of 2 hundred country’s, being massed up with commercials traveling. Still love you bouth

That is literally the birthplace of communism. Our two countries see things very different. But that doesn't make their history any less significant. pretty amazing!
Kara blending in with the statues 😂👏🏻
i feel like your reaction to him being one of the first communist leadears was really bad, but i'm not sure I understand the history. After looking up what a communism beliefs are it doesn't seem bad. Am I missing something?
I liked that a lot so cool to see a part of history. I didn’t care for your friend making fun of the older man when he was helping Kara.i realize he is a communist but still that’s no reason to be disrespectful of someone willing to reveal so much amazing history that getting to see that printing press and actually
Go down those tunnels is something you’ll never forget. I thought he was treating her kindly because it was dark and he knew the way
No. He followed me into a hole that only went in about 5 feet. You couldn’t stand up. There was nothing for him to “help” me with back there. It was gross. Yes he was very nice to us but this was not him just trying to be helpful.
I understand he just wanted to touch you. I get it Thankyou for explaining. I’m sorry I misread the situation
You are very wrong . Thats how u read it because ur common sense is adapted to modern reality(when we hear alot stories about groping etc.) and making it obvious to think like that in similar situation . But in this case its wrong since you dont know much about those people they grew up lived in USSR. I am sure that this crazy comminist in that video had nothing like that in his mind . There was even saying that there was no sex in Soviet Union, well atleast mentally, Those kind of people was not thinking about sex .. hard to believe ? your choice. He probably thought that u was going to ruin something there or get harmed. Also , u was not provocatively dressed or something, especially compared to what u can see in the streets for his mind to go crazier, also there was 2 guy with you. So I am pretty sure he had nothing like that in mind , he was just happy u seemed interested in his rusty stories. Also its orthodox Georgia and not some eastern or even western countries where such stories become common. But tbh better be careful then sorry!
Very nice, I was in Tbilisi last month!

11:40: I wonder how/why the Chinese tablecloth ended up there? Interesting...
Love Georgia. I went there around this time last year. You will not regret your food tour! Khachapuri is the best thing since sliced bread. :-p Make sure to head down to Kakheti- Georgia's wine region. Harvest time should around its end by now but even if its over it's a great experience in that area. Fun fact, Georgia is meant to be where wine was first cultivated- so you'll see the oldest vineyards in the world. I've tried some of the best wine I've ever had in that country. Just be careful with the chacha. It's basically the Georgian version of moonshine but made of grapes. If someone offers you it don't say no, but don't overdo it! Also if you want to go to the sulphur baths in the old town make sure to go to the new one in the converted persian mosque- you'll know it when you see it. Get a treatment too, it'll be an adventure (which I mean in a hilarious way, not a dirty way)!!! ;-) I wish for comedy's sake I had taken a video when me and my friend did it. Finally, driving there is crazy! Please do not rent a car, hire a driver or something. Enjoy!
Great video, Georgia, and Tbilisi look great places to visit
So happy to see Charlie again! Have fun in Chiang Mai! 💕
Yay, you’re back! Welcome back Charlie/Chad ✌️
Such a great episode of the vlogg. I really liked to see when you visited the communist museum. Also it was a long time since we could see Kara climb a mountain/hill. Sorry Kara but it's really nice to see your mood swings when you are hungry. Also the posing at the statue was great and Charlie trying to do an american complaining. Maybe Kara should try to speak aussie English sometimes cause she is good at listening in and would probably do it well. By the way the music in the beginning of this episode of the vlogg reminded me of Rita Oras Your song. Epedemic sound rocks even though I liked your music in the early days of the vlogg (for example when traveling). Thank you for all the good work Kara and Nate.
I’m from Tbilisi Georgia I grew up there but I live in the US now. I knew every single place you were at and it’s so much fun seeing people got to my country

Amazing what you will stumble upon when traveling. It would have been so interesting if an interpreter would have been there. ~Joanna♡

Wow, what an adventure in to communist history (insert scary face emoji). Is that the dude who used to put on a southern accent and say "Chad from Kentucky?" Lol

Wow, what a great video! I wish we could tell what all the old guy was saying, just the bits that came through were fascinating. Also, your hair was on point in this one, Kara. Small detail, but still.
CHARLIEEEE!! It feels like forever since he's been around. Good to see him again!
Also, holy heck! That vlog was fascinating. Thanks for sharing! ❤️
I am Georgian
Couldn't imagine having to crawl down a well AND then back up again to get to that press. Plus carry all the paper stock in and the pamphlets back out. Wow.
Yay!!! Charlie!!! Haha so happy to see you guys are still keeping in touch! Always loved when he joined you on adventures, such a funny happy person!!
charlie 1/10 from remarks he made in previous videos;

The crew who installed the windows in my house were from Georgia! They spoke no English but they did a fantastic job.
You need to see the Caucasian mountains! Ushguli and Kazbegi are beautiful places.
OMG I can’t believe you were in my home city❤️ When I saw your videos from Russia and Turkey I was wondering if you’d come here 😊

2.what is your favourite food in Georgia?
If you visit a museum, donate a little. It isn't much compared to what you people get. There's no need for prejudice.
Just when I was wondering. where's coffee.. Kara came up with one.. 🤣🤣 and wait stalin..😅 this must have been exciting at so many levels..
