Hey, I actually skipped out on Judos and got Hammer blunts because I shoot 200 gr broad heads. Now I know I can get Judos with glue on adapters. Thanks for that.
One question I have: have you tried the Hammers and if so, do you still prefer Judos for stump shooting?
I have not shot hammer heads. I have used ace hex heads and love them but they don't fit in my quiver foam holes well and I have to fill the arrow around and pu the nock in the foam. So I prefer judo as they go in my quiver the right way.

Why do like such a hard helical? So the feathers don't hit your face at anchor or you like the fast spin of the arrow?
I like the fast spin of the arrow. Looks like a solid golf ball of yellow flying g towards the animal showing me exactly where I hit
I have the blue bohning hot melt glue. I know you use hot melt. I've always just used locktite or gorilla glue for insets. Wanted to know if you ever tried this blue stuff and is hot melt pretty strong stuff?
Never used the blue hot melt. Just the regular bohning hot melt that is brown. For teh inserts I use the gorilia glue impact resistant with the blue lable.
How does the glue stand up to the torque from the single bevel?
Zero problems that I'm aware of. And the single bevels torque is not even strong enough to loosen blue lock tight I put on my left bevels threads. So I doubt it could snap the glue.
I have the hardest time getting the glued on heads to spin true, I find myself heating and checking heating and checking. Only to find it’s not aligned to the nock when it finally is spinning true. Lol
When you mount the head press it point first onto something hard like a ceramic tile or metal etc the seat it well with pressure from the center. That makes a big difference

Love your videos Jason. How do you ensure broadhead to adapter is perfectly aligned? Is there a tool you use? I’m just getting into glue ons. I just purchased the boneheads from abowyer.
Spin test them. You can do this by using an actual spin tester (very cheap to buy) or you can stand the arrow on the broadhead point on something hard like a cd case or peice of metal and then spin the arrow if it's not aligned right it will wobble. If it is aligned right it will spin straight and fast. If it's not aligned then just heat it up again and twist the head around to repeat and test again. I show this in a few videos. On my channel search arrow or broadhead.

@jonathangarzon2798 nobody wants to have 10 different broadheads. But when you have been at it 35 years you aquire a few different ones. All I hunted with for 25 years was magnus 1s. Then I shot abowyers for 2 years. And now foe the last 2 years all I shoot are razorbroadheads. But that doesn't mean I'm going to through out the others I have.

@jonathangarzon2798 depends on your arrow set up. For me all heads fly the same with a heavy arrow and high foc. So it doesn't matter if it's wide, skinny, short, long etc.
If that 1.5 " wide broadhead was a 3:1 wouldn't that make it 4.5 inches long?
Yep and it's pretty close to that. It's huge! And I think it 1.4 x 4 or something like that. So close to a 3:1

@tradbowpodcast I still use Zwickey Eskimo broadheads as my go to. 100gr insert, 60gr of added weight and the 160gr Eskimo for 320gr up front on 30" 400 spine GT Warriors in a 50# longbow.

What are your thoughts on those aluminum outsert adapters for wood arrows? I just bought my first dozen of wood arrows and I’m kinda leaning towards the outserts for the same reasons mentioned in your video. And the ability to use screw in heads with wood arrows seems very logical to me. The only thing I don’t like about them is how ugly they are.

Tuning is much, much, more flexible with glue ons. Mix and match inserts, adapters, brloadhead weight to get what you want.

Thats a tuffhead and I don't remeber the weight and it's down at my place in Georgia so I can't weigh it. But check tuffheads website
I use 100 grains and use a slightly smaller version of the pointed Muzzy 3 blade that have the point part before the head or cheaper but just as well constructed Mayfield head, these in Stainless Steel for deer that is a 1 inch or 1 & 1/16 inch head. Then I have even smaller ones in 100 grain for hunting small game that are a 3/4 inch but smaller proportionally kept the same. If I had to get bigger I would get the Mayfield heads since they are almost as well constructed as a Muzzy but cost less due to not having or using an ad budget, and some Muzzy due to cost cutting on there end are only as good as a Mayfield in the same head size. I get using glue on if you are going for a high weight beyond a 125 grain since the 100 and 125 tend to be very common in vary different broadhead sizes and a 150 grain is still common enough to find what you need.
This is what I plan to use for my arrows since all my Arrows come with a 100 grain field head I like to keep the broadhead at 100--110 grains. My brother uses 125 grain for everything including his big game three that are open and come to a point since he has for his 45 pound bows arrows that are 2214 to 2218 with a few 2317 I got him by mistake and had some 2317 that are old rubber fletched were some in a huge set with a 1995 compound my dad got from original owner, my dad only ever uses the 2114 or 2116 from the set that had feathers. My brother needs to replace the rubber fletching if using off shelf or self only as they get destroyed after a single target session.ua-cam.com/video/UNOEMEX-2ow/v-deo.html

I have not. Could not get them to not whistle with my arrow set up so never shot them hunting
@@SamkoTradBow I’ve noticed that too with my arrows. My thought is that a deer normally reacts to the sound of the bow going off, that’s the loudest part of any hunting scenario, no matter what type of bow or arrow you’re shooting. So, once an arrow is on it’s way to the target, whistling or not, it is too late to make any discernible difference.
@@SamkoTradBow Hopefully I’ll let you know soon, one down so far this year. I’ve settled on just using 2 blade heads from now on, either single or double bevel. I recently shot a buck with a Zwickey Delta 4 blade and while it made a nice hole, it wasn’t worth the extra trouble it takes to sharpen a 4 blade. Shooting a 55lb longbow and a 650 gr arrow.
Glue on for me now 24 years. Original Magnus 125 and 47 grain allunimin insert. Just works well without ever a issue. Burried to base of broadhead in a spinal vertebrae. Had to chisel and hammer split bone to get out. Good information today thank you.

Check Mate hunter recurve 53 pounds at 27 draw. I shoot the same 500 spine GT. But uncut. Moore weight and the shaft is so easily tunable just by changing point weight.
@@reedmitchell6716 yep point weight adjustment is a great ability to have. The world seems to be getting away from this and going to screw ons. That's sad. I heard recently that only 20% of fixed blade heads sold today are glue on. Thata very sad. We need to change that
some archery shops seem to not recommend hot glue but epoxy or jb weld, which eliminates the benefit of tuning flexibility you're talking about in this video. I'm trusting and assuming that you've not had one come apart and epoxy/jb weld is overkill. but are all hot glues basically the same? if not, any specific brand/type you recommend for gluing adapter to glue-in broadheads?
Never ever had a problem with hot melt. I use bohning hot melt for most any arxhery store or on amazon or 3 rivers
Jason, off topic a bit but when you ran a close up of the fletch to talk about the orientation, I wondered if you treat your fletching with anything to keep them dry in the rain. I was shooting last week in the rain and the quills of my fletching separated a lot from the rain. I did not notice a significant change in flight but I was only shooting at 10 yards. Any thoughts on fletching treatment and affects on arrow flight with wet fletching?
I do not treat fetching anymore as I shoot such high foc the feathers are really just for decoration. Lol but when I was treating feathers I tried everything and the best I found was liquid silicone shoe water proofing. It has the cotton ball on a stick type application and I just rub it on the feathers and let it dry. It did excellent

I'm the same way. I like the ability to change things and orient the head the way I want it. I also like to epoxy the adapter to the insert when I decide how I want it set up. Then The threads will never come loose. I just use hot melt for the inserts.
Agree on both. I don't epoxy the adapter to the insert but I do use lock tite blue.

I use hot melt by bonning for the head to adapter and I use gorilla glue blue impact resistant for the inserts to the carbon
How much grains +/- in tip weight will make a difference on target? If one setup is 5, 10, or even 20 grains out does that even matter?
In arrow flight it all depends on the arrow set up. If shooting a 500 grain arrows 20 grains might be enough to make flight different. On 700 grain arrows 20 grains won't make a difference. Each arrow will react differently to the weight change. If it's already close to too stiff or too weak 20 grains might be all thats needed to push it over the edge
Yeah, that makes sense. I’m in the 480-520 grain range on arrow weight for my 40# longbow setup. I’m trying to keep everything as precise as possible with my broadheads, field points, small game blunts etc. Just wanted to know how precise I have to be lol. Thanks!

Now for my question. I have a 58 lb. recurve I checked it on the scales yesterday. Carbon wood limbs 48lbs 21” riser 66” long. My draw length is 30-3/4” inches. What would you suggest for a hunting arrow and broad head set up. All of these pro shops and mail order catalogs have me completely confused. They are suggesting arrow spines from anywhere between 200-500. Totally confused..... please help

I started to switch to the glue on versions because of the influx of the "adult" arrow fad going around making screw in heads more difficult to come by. I just didn't want to switch this past summer because my setup was already dialed in for what I already had. Plan on going to the glue on setups after this coming season. I also shoot a 500 spine GT with 275gr on the front coming out of my 55# longbow. It all matters what bareshafts for you, not what charts or "experts" say.
How are you getting a 500 to fly out of a 55 pound bow with that much up front? I needed 400s out of 47# to shoot 300 up front

Sounds like you have a great set up and a great game plan! Agree 100% that charts just get you in the ball park. You need to bareshaft tune to get it right
Heres an interesting one for ya on how spine is effected by length. I shoot a 57# longbow with a 27 inch 500 spine with 450 grains up front and 720 grain total weight. But I use a custom made 3 inch long 200 grain insert. so my length of flexible shaft is on 24 inches. so the 500 spine is what I need to get them to fly right. Crazy how dynamic spine works.
@@SamkoTradBow i guess mine gets goofy cause I need a minimum of a 30.5 inch arrow, anything shorter and my broadhead will be touching my fingers
