- Hello everyone, and welcome to another The Isle Concept Analysis! This is a series I will be making for the following weeks where I explore and analyse all the dinosaur concepts that the devs have been releasing since 2020. Today we are going to discuss the Protoceratops.
Hope you all enjoy the video :)

I think proto drinking salt water makes perfect sense. It's from Mongolia which we all know is SURROUNDED by ocean.
oh hey I live on the island of Mongolia
Mongolia has a navy, they obviously protect the country from these horrifying animals.
Mongolian wild camels can drink salt water. That could be because mongolia has pretty salty groundwater but nobody really knows.
@@lb540 damn I just looked that up and it's true, that makes me feel a lot better about this potential mechanic
As others have said, a couple Mongolian native animals can drink salt water. So it’s not at all as outrageous or as crazy as you think.
The devs confirmed that those are actually velociraptors and not troodons, and they want to "play up" the proto/velo rivalry with whatever that entails.
The isle devs: no no Iguanodon bad we already have tenontosaurus
also makes like 12 ceratopsians that do the same thing
So true.
I think maybe closer to current day spino but still a fair amount smaller even for the biggest species
@@grimmreaper9005 mixed dinos or you were wrong
And they are not even close since iguanodon is 5tons and teno 1.6
Teno has a long tail
Iguanodon has big arms
But we’ll probably get parasaur so there’s not really a good reason to choose iguanadon, unless you made para semi aquatic but even then
Tenonto+Para+Shant
Seems fair to me
I had no idea psittacosaurus was related to protoceratops and other ceratopsian. That’s really cool!
Psitaco:hello Young one
Triceratops:hello Grandpa
yeah, psittaco is a 'basal' ceratopsian, so its close to the base of that family tree.
A neat thing they could do is maybe have protos able to press their frills against their den entrances/exits to guard them but that then sounds op a bit
I think its neat! (Some ants literally do that), it would work on smaller predators that might wanna eat the eggs like troodon, but if the intruder is strong enough (big dino) it can kill the proto by hitting its head, so the player has to think twice before using this tactic.
I wonder if the devs are trying to spread players out a bit. I have seen some speculation (not sure of the source so cant say its official) that pteras will have their best nesting areas along the coast. They might be setting up coastal areas as possibly smaller dino areas. The salt water drinking ability does have some real world credibility. Marine iguanas are able to expel excess salt through their noses (there are videos of them launching these salty snot rockets lol).
Would be a good way to wngage some of the more casual gamers who dont have 5-7 hours to grow an apex dino but wants to have the same isle experience.
Also, some marine birds can drink salt water
This really feels more like the concept of an AI creature rather than a playable. I would give it a try, but I probably wouldn't keep at it as the concept is pretty basic? Who knows?
Thanks for another video!
It could just be that I find fun easily, but I'm interested in how a Proto would play. It'd be vastly different from a stego or teno, so the diversity in and of itself seems fun to me. Not to mention how cute and fun it'll be to have a lil herd romping around! 😁
The drinking of salt water seems interesting, though. Perhaps protos will need a specific sodium/mineral intake for their diet, and the fastest way to get it is from the ocean? I'm interested to find out!
I didn't notice the beach on the first time around. Nice catch
dude these vids are so good! you deserve way more views and subs. im definitely subscribing
YEEEESSS I'M TOTALLY IN FOR THIS SERIES THANK YOU I SUB
They probably made them able to drink ocean water top to try get players to spread out more, knowing that they spend their time in popular spots
Great concept analysis
I'm all for the idea of the beach being an actual ecosystem, possibly the only environment I see Magy being able to live in.
POG.
Gran video como siempre
Good video ;)
Nice video as always
I think being able to make tunnel networks would be really cool, but just digging a hole in the ground like dryo isnt interestig or fun.
From what Ive heard tunneling will be more indepth. I agree the legacy version of tunneling was lackluster. I really like the picture of the protoceratops blocking the entrance of its burrow with its huge head. I pictured a squeaky voice saying "you shall not pass!!" 🤣
well it would seem like tunneling and digging burrows will be different, dryos will be able to tunnel with a more in depth and fleshed out tunnel system, but it looks like protos and possibly minmis aswell will just create burrows just big enough to chill and nest in
Oooooh so good and cute !! :D
great vid
Going to be years before this come out years!
Rather than drinking ocean water, maybe they are feeding on aquatic plants? Maybe it would be part of their diet
A dev confirmed it is them drinking it, as it is an idea that the team is currently mulling over
@@peasantkyr oh my
@@peasantkyr That;s ridiculous.
@@kade-qt1zu Look up marine iguanas sneezing salt. That's the inspiration
2:25 there are some Psittacosaurus in the burrow!
Maybe the game should have Biomes since Protoceratops didn’t need to burrow and could just live in places where large herbivores couldn’t be sustained too well so they never had to deal with large carnivores like Tarbosaurus. Only dealt with Raptors and Alioramus.
Apparently those were velos according to the devs, which I find generally stupid, and also the devs said that it wasn't drinking water and there's guna be a desert biome, which I also find stupid, and proto also is gonna be semi aquatic, which is uh, *I honestly don't know what to say to that at this point*
The isle devs....
i dont think the devs said anything about proto being a semi aquatic
and they confirmed that proto wil be able to dring salt water
@@Excusatores bet
The deva are just gonna make every non viable small herbivore semi aquatic and burrowing creatures
In a world were carnivores like ceratosaurus and carnotaurus exist, I wonder how the heck they thought adding THIS animal was a good idea for the game's roster.
Small herbivores already have a hard time finding any bit of usefulness while being fast enough to avoid carnivores, so something both smaller AND slower ever becoming viable seems as ludicrous as a vegan T-rex.
yes it may get it's burrow, but we already saw how it worked with Dryosaurus and the fact is : it didn't, unfortunately >
The isles ecosystom is dumb as hell
i can't believe i didn't notice it drinking ocean water, what the fuck
I think because of their big frills and being in burrows they would most likely use their frills as a door or a barricade so that the hatchlings wont die in like three seconds 😂😂😂
Side note, all ceratopsians wouldve evolved from a psittacosaurus like ancestor, not just protoceratops and its close relatives
Those are velos, not troodon
Why proto we have pistaco?Waist of time and development
Ava is confirmed to be a digger? Honestly I would have never guessed.. it doesn’t look like a digger at all and honestly really doesn’t fit the niche. Plus we already have proto to do that??? Can someone give me more information about evrima’s Ava?
A year late m8, but Ava will not be a burrower, it'll be a burrow stealer.
It's shown in its concept art evicting a dryo out of its burrow.
