Hey, Geologists out there: When its reported that the eastern half is "stagnant" does that mean its slowly solidifying, cooling because its too far away from the vent's molten stream to stay liquid? That the area closer to the vent is actually the molten liquid lava lake?
When the large floating island became lodged where it is now, it stopped the slow circular flow around the entire lake. The lake is still very much molten under the crust on the stagnant side.
Great question, I had wondered the same thing! @Cat Jefferson - I‘m curious as to how thick the crust is. Do you by chance know? Like, if someone were to walk on it, would they sink down into the lava or is it hard enough to walk on? Not that someone should go walk on it to test it out 😅😅
