  • Study with me - designed for people with chronic anxiety or anxiety disorders. Four short (12 minute) pomodoro sessions with 3 minute chat breaks in between to reset, relax, and re-focus ... even while anxious. There is calming ambient music during the study/focus sessions.
    For a version without music:
    • STUDY & FOCUS - Overco...
Use this video to practice sitting quietly and focusing on a task while feeling anxious or agitated. You cant do it wrong. Just do the best you can. Pause the video if you need to. Take more frequent breaks if you need to. Be kind to yourself while you work on this anxiety recovery skill.
I am (as of 2023) a second year masters degree student in clinical mental health counseling and a therapist-in-training in New York. Study with me while I finish a final paper for a trauma and crisis counseling class. I'll give you some details in the chat breaks.

This was super helpful! My focus has been squashed significantly since tapering off benzos. Finally was able to finish a book but have hit another rough patch with cognitive fog. Your video is like having a focus friend. Hope you do this again sometime.

Thank you for this!! I have a big exam tomorrow, I've been stressing because I've to travel quite far and write the exam for 4 hours. Its been taking away my study time and now I'm gonna use this video to help make the most of my last day of preparation left! :)

Thank you! I had so much trouble concentrating when I first went back to work. I write reports that require a lot of focus. I'll usually work for 4 to 6 hrs at a time. It's so hard even now to get started, it even seems like my eyes wont focus... But if I can push past the first 30 min, I'm ON task and get extremely irritated if I'm interrupted because it took so long to get going.. lol.. I really didn't realize this was part of the anxiety disorder.

It's a really hidden aspect of this for many. It's hard to sit still and focus when in an anxious state.

Thank you for this! You perfectly described how it feels to sit and try to be productive as an anxious person. Can’t wait to watch

What's up Drew, i have been following you for a couple of months and your content was really the thing that kept me hopeful, thank you for all you do. I wasn't able to go 2 streets away from home and in a couple of weeks i am now able to go to parties with friends and drive about 30 minutes away and it just keeps improving. I still have some work to do and one thing bothers me and it's the DP. It strikes me like a truck when it's really sunny outside, i feel like i am in a dream and that's the only symptom that still bothers me and makes me avoid sometimes. How do you deal with that feeling of being in a dream state where everything feels strange and so unreal? Do you have a vid that adresses the way to approach these kind of feelings because i can't seem to be able to accept them at the moment.

I know you want to say that DP needs more instruction and more techniques, but it really is not any different than other symptoms. Its just the one that scares you the most. This is a reasonably important concept that can be hard for people to really accept. Episode 20 of the "Disordered" podcast (disordered dot fm on the web) talks about DP/DR if you want to check that out.

Have no idea what this is about. We're watching you study? Not a clue. Am I supposed to understand how hard it is to sit still when watching someone do something quietly? Seems like most anyone, even someone without an anxiety disorder, would become restless.

That would generally mean that the video is not for you, and the good news is that UA-cam has plenty of other videos that you might enjoy! xx
