I can’t wait to share with you all the absolute best way to learn scales and shapes on the guitar, and it’s totally free- I swear this isn’t an ad!!! It’s just literally the best resource I’ve found for guitarists who are into learning scales and shapes (hope you are!) and should actually save you quite a bit of cash on paper charts and books.
In addition to showing you all how I use and practice with Fretastic, I demonstrate how easily your scale practicing can turn into a real song, by walking through the process of finding a scale, choosing it’s accompanying chords, and adding other instruments like bass, drums, and keys. I composed and produced the music in Ableton 10 and Reason 11, and as I mention, there were quite a few technical difficulties that needed to be overcome.
Regardless, with patience and persistence I was able to get back on track, and even film a music video for the concept. If I were to finish this track into a whole song, it would take way more time than I am comfortable with just to upload it for this video. So instead, I’ll be completing this song on my own time and will upload it to Spotify when it’s done - I’ll let you all know when that happens!
Huge thank you to Gary Simon from DesignCourse. He’s a fan of the channel, and if it weren’t for him, we wouldn’t have this awesome resource to learn with. Here’s his channel on web design:

And his guitar channel as well!

This guy literally has a mode sheet/poster in his store and is advertising something that essentially provides his poster's information for free. That's how you know he isn't just here for fame, views, money, anything like that.
He's here to teach, and a damn good job he does at it.
Jake is a golden god
Another fantastic video! Thanks
@a d wait what
Jake is our music waifu
It's damn expensive poster, that's why
Jake is like the guys from the advertisements that promise to make you rich, only that this is not a scam!
ngl if guitar doesnt work out I think I could make a lot of money as a WEALTH GURU ripping people off. let's hope it doesn't come to that
@@SignalsMusicStudio Don't worry. You are predicated to follow the light side. 😉
@@SignalsMusicStudio it won't if you simply continue making videos like this piece of gold right here! Go! Fight the good fight, good sir!

The Pandemic and Lockdowns have given me more time to View your videos !!
I use both your new videos and the historic Back log of your Lessons on UA-cam !!
Thanks for the App introduction .. I'll be using it often 🎸🎶
@@coltonaallen He looks like the embodyment of a "Good guy" to be honest.
Mushroom Jake is something I never knew I needed, but now cannot imagine my life without.
So you're telling me that playing the pentatonic scale up and down isnt good enough to be considered music?
No precious...
You dare mock me!
@@thomasfokas hehe... really?..lol
Debussy has entered the chat
Well, yes but actually no.
Holy shit what is that amazing chord change when Jake sings “but they don’t know”
It's just a g7 but the harmonies hit the natural 7th... wtf? I wrote it without much planning but going back now I think that is kinda weird... The next chord is a f#7 with a #5, lovely altered dominant
Forgot to mention- You don't have to download fretastic, and it's usuable on damn near every device you can imagine. NEAT! If you have technical questions or issues, send them to the contact on the site please :)
Co-creator of Fretastic here. If you have any questions, shoot away!

As someone heavily interested in guitar and programming, this was awesome to see two of my favorite youtubers being joined together like this!
truly one of the best music channel, everything's so clear that I actually like music theory thanks to you !
10:00 true. sometimes I spend 2 or 3 days just solving technical problems. you just have to get used to it
This took a shitload of time and effort. Very well done. Point taken, and it is appreciated. Excellent work, especially considering the tech nightmares. When people get together and expand a simple concept, the results can be legendary.
This guy is so smart and so talented, I’m so happy I found your channel Jake. Thanks for the amazing information that you pack into each video!
I've been using this almost daily since you first mentioned it in a video a couple weeks ago. Really a fantastic resource, and no joke the best one I've found so far.
Another amazing video Jake! You are one of the few people bringing me back to posting on UA-cam again...I owe a LOT to you...nothing but respect and admiration my friend!

This guy:

Thanks so much for plugging Fretastic! Great resource!!!
Thanks a lot for that totally not an ad video Jake haha ! I downloaded fretastic and yeah, it is fantastic. I started to get more serious with learning theory, scales (currently on the major after having learnt the pentatonic) and writing chord progressions and Riffs, and it is a tremendous help to be able to have the fretboard and all the notes with a certain shape while jamming for example, or looking for licks to play while composing in a certain key. Really love your channel man, you have a great way of delivering theory in an understable way while backing it with practical examples, keep up the great work !
love your videos man. please dont ever stop! they really help me !
Fantastic Fretastic!!! thank you Jake! and you guy who made it

Jake! Just wanted to chime in to say I bought your poster and it arrived last week and I love it! A big thanks to you and the fellow artists that put the work in to make it happen!
glad you like it! I'll tell the artists :)
Thanks for sharing this, I've recently begun after years of playing guitar without serious practice, to practice my scales and mess around with composing full tracks on my DAW, while actually knowing what I'm doing instead of just "guessing" and "feeling" it out. And I've been looking for something exactly like this to aide me in playing along with my guitar. Perfect timing.
Jake, thank you.
Thank you for all the work you’ve put into Signals Music Studio, and all the fantastic videos you produce. I always look forward to seeing your new videos.

Ben Levin is the fookin' man! I love it when my favorite UA-camrs shout out each other (well, when they don't actually know each other.) Great video, great scale, great electric static metallic hair and great to have you out there. The scales are free, do with them what you will.
Thank you for showing me fretastic! I’ve just finished learning and practicing all the modes of the major mode in 4 days! I’m gonna start learning the harmonic minor modes next, thank you so much!

this is another fantastic production Jake, when i hear the song you and your mates came up with, it reminds me of an Australian band called Mental As Anything - it reminds me of great aussie music coming from the 80's/90's. Thanks :)
omg and it has all the positions at once, I was thinking about writing an identical thing in javascript so i'm obviously really happy this exists - thanks for the video
Cool song!
And thanks for motivating us!🙏🙏🤘

This video knocks it out of the park. Thank you.
