  • A quick discussion regarding my completed 1/16 Tamiya WWII German Machine Gunner in Greatcoat. This is the first figure I've ever built, which leads into the 'update' part of the video.
I am graduating this week, and will be heading to university in August. I won't be bringing my spray equipment or camera stuff with me, so builds will have to totally stop. However, I've got a large collection of figure kits (which is expanding) so I can throw a tamiya primer can, basic base supplies, a set of oil paints and brushes and a ton of kits into my luggage and still work on something. I'm going to try to record painting/project videos, but until I meet my roommates and get established, build videos will stop.
My goal is to have Cats done so I can release something for eleven straight weeks, at which point I should be on break or something to get another video or two out. After that, I may have to settle for reveal videos of completed models, and my channel will be in a slump.
It'll last two years at the most. After sophmore year I'm getting out of the dorms, and when I'm in an apartment or renting a room it will be far simpler to set up my spray stuff and camera setup.

Airfix's Stuka should make for a fun video to watch.
    Good luck at university!

Very nice work for your first time go at figures. That gunner turned out very nice. I've always liked working on those big figures. The methods used to paint them also help when it comes to doing the smaller 1/35th scale figures. Thanks for sharing with us.

A clear thin layer of resin would have looked good just over the top of that painted bit that went wrong! It happens but still looks good!

GREAT VIDEO!!! Here is a puzzle: The figure and weapon seems to be an anomaly, as the uniform had changed in '42. The figure here has long boots and a distinct M36 touch to the uniform. The MG42 wasn't issued until '42, thus making up a strange coincidence with weapon and uniform from RELATIVELY distinct periods.

That is strange. While the greatcoat covers up much of the uniform, it wasn't painted with the different-colored collar, and to be perfectly honest besides the collar and button color I don't really know what the differences would be. The thing with German uniforms, especially on the eastern front, is that nothing gets where it is supposed to be when it is supposed to be there. I've seen video of the fighting in Berlin with non-civilians still wearing M36 issue stuff, for example. So as far as any dating issues go, firstly I have to pass the buck off to Tamiya since this was out of the box, and secondly I just kind of shrug and say "supply lines to the eastern front were kind of a cluster, and he must not have gotten the new stuff."

What Brand of paint and brushes you use

Brushes were nameless / cheap from Hobby Lobby, paint is a Hobby Lobby 'starter set' oil. Very 'budget'
