    I got one of these recently. For well under £20.00 for a 1:48 scale, it's a bargain!

      It's one of Tamiya's very old and early kits, that does have its issues, hence the cheap price tag. But you can still enjoy building and painting it. Thank you for watching, much appreciated and sorry for the very late reply!! Cheers 👍🙂🥃🥃

    • @InternationalBritishModeler
      @InternationalBritishModeler  10 років тому

      Tim Mulviel Thanks for watching Tim, and, I'm happy that it will serve a useful purpose. Be warned, it's one of Tamiya's old kits before they became better at what they have perfected now. You will need some filler and sanding sticks, and, the Air-intakes are void of any flaps, which are open when the Aircraft is sitting. You could cut sections out to represent them, or, order after-market resin Air Intakes to replace those. The cockpit has nothing in it; just a seat and a poor representation of an instrument panel. No side consoles, foot pedals, etc. But, if it's your first kit, then, it will provide you with some practice for sanding, filling, blending and, being patient with Tamiya decals that are notorious for cracking here and there! Enjoy your build and have fun! Cheers, Martin : ) ps...will you be posting update videos on here to share your build with us?

      You're welcome mate. My model isn't a good representation of how it could be done....it was only my 6th build, and looking back with what I've learned now, I would have done it differently. Bangin' job! I have had this one in the stash for about 12 years - glad I didn't just jump into it. ;-) An old trick to flatten the tires is to hold them on a warm iron, or use an OLD knife. I don't know about the early Harriers but I've seen the USMC Harrier II's up close and personal and those tires LOOK flat. They are very low pressure for dispersed airfield operations.

    • @InternationalBritishModeler
      @InternationalBritishModeler  10 років тому

      CH Gifford Thanks CH, appreciate you stopping by and taking time out to watch the video : )I've seen plenty of British RAF and Navy Harriers up close and personal but never a USMC version. I decided not to use heat to flatten the tires so that I had more control over how much I removed.Cheers : )

    • @InternationalBritishModeler
      @InternationalBritishModeler  9 років тому +1

      m0rce1 Hello S, thanks for watching, much appreciated! Just be careful with the kit...you'll require a lot of filler at the joints of the Air-Intakes to the fuselage, and also around the engine access cover which is a poor fit. Also, my front cockpit window was wider than the fuselage, so, it hangs over the sides which you can see in the video. I tried to flex it inwards but it started to craze from the stress so I left it alone. You'll also notice that my front and rear large wheels situated beneath the fuselage have been sanded down about 1/16th"; this was to enable to the two outrigger wheel at the tips of the wings to sit down on the ground to prevent the wings tipping to one side, which would leave one wheel in the air and the other one seated on the ground. Sanding the wheels stopped that from happening and both wheels sat down on the ground. The Air-Intakes are just smooth and do not have the square flaps around the periphery which open when the Harrier is stationary on the ground. You can buy detailed after market resin ones if you want to include those flaps in your air intakes. It's a cheap Tamiya kit, and the above are the reasons why. But, you'll still enjoy building her...I did, apart from the few frustrations. Cheers, Martin : )

      Hey James, good to "see" you around mate! This was one of my very first builds from almost 3 1/2 years ago- the 6th build as the title states, and, one that I did before i was comfortable with my airbrush, thinning paints correctly, pre-shading, post-shading, using oil paints for weathering, washes etc....and, it's been put into a storage container since my skills developed more...I don't like it. I'd love to get my hands on a good GR.1 or GR.3 kit that can be painted in the RAF grey/green camouflage colors....but, I haven't seen a good kit offering one of those versions. There is the Airfix one, but I've heard it's old, raised details and has fit issues.
      Anyway, I hope you're doing well in Wales and will get back to making appearances on here and Facebook, once the summer is over?
      Take care for now, be good, live life and have fun!
      Cheers,
      Martin : )

    • @InternationalBritishModeler

      It's filler. This was only my 6th build after beginning model building, and after painting it, there were visible gaps that I didn't like, so I filled them, then sanded down and in the next slide, you can see that all the paint has been removed where I sanded the filler. I cleaned the surfaces, then repainted.

Used to be one of the main channels for modelling (so it has been claimed anyway, by others) but I'm taking the backseat now and let the others do the driving.. :) I can give some moderate advice on handbrushing, model kits and kit identifying, (what is lurking in the Revell box you just bought, it may not always be a Revell kit?!) but for modelling advice in general, especially airbrushing, there are channels that can give you better advice by far.. :)

      Probably the F-4d, although I've never built one to provide an educated opinion based on experience...this harrier kit is a very old one and badly made. It has poor fitting parts, raised panel lines and the decals are really thick; I had a couple crack on me. If you want me to make a video of me building the F-4D kit, then send one to me.

    • @InternationalBritishModeler
      @InternationalBritishModeler  8 років тому

      I used an airbrush that my wife bought me for Christmas with 3 models to get me started in modeling. I airbrushed this Harrier at a time when I was still learning how to hone my skills with the airbrush. It;s a very poor example of my airbrushing skills now. Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated. I'm the opposite, I dislike the model because it was a very bad model with poor fits and poor decals, and, it was one of the first models that I built when I began modeling in 2014. You should take a gander at my more recent models for realism, such as these few: Revell Arado AR196A Seaplane- ua-cam.com/video/ZRKU-k-M-BE/v-deo.html Eduard BF109E-3- ua-cam.com/video/ej54LH-n8iY/v-deo.html Revell Focke Wulf Fw190F-8- ua-cam.com/video/eSI_qcd9s88/v-deo.html Monogram Heinkel He111H-22- ua-cam.com/video/l2BoXSWtHcE/v-deo.html Revell Junkers Ju88A-1 Bomber- ua-cam.com/video/Un29hOf2diM/v-deo.html Airfix Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb- ua-cam.com/video/AKddHmJ_chs/v-deo.html
