Alanna's mom sounds like my MIL who always wants to outshine and up everyone even though you know she's gaslighighting the whole time. But Alanna's mom is a bit sweet, and I think she's just doing it for the content. I wish I had Ivor's mother as my MIL. My ex's mom was like that very sweet and down to earth and genuine rather than superficial get to know you and take advantage of you later.
