After the flood the oceans of world were formed based on the changed landscape. When the water drained leaving a desert where no plant life could get established for years due to the salt content. As time went on, there were times lakes formed from underground springs and rains transforming the desert. When the water drained after the flood whales and other large marine animals got stranded, but in no way did they walk there.
