Thank you so much I am taking this regents this month and I took the class two years ago but I want to score a better score. This video helped me a lot thank you so much!
@@shsatreview6318-3.-3 is 9 (-3)^2=(-3)(-3) =9 I don’t get why the -3^2 without parentheses would be -9 if we’re still multiplying a negative and a negative
There is no negative symbol to carry because we need it to factor the expression out completely. In this problem we were able to use the rule a^2 - b^2 = (a+b)(a-b) to factor out 9-x^2. There is no rule for a^2 + b^2, so if we factored a negative out, or carried the negative symbol, we would have -9 + x^2 which cannot be factored any further, since it does not follow the a^2 - b^2 form.
@@shsatreview6318 But cant you still factor out the negative and have a different answer? It would just end up being -4(x^2-9) which can be simplified into (x-3)(x+3)

(-3)^2 is equal to nine, but -3^2 is equal to -9. Parentheses matter.

It's like the distributive property, -(-3)^2 = -1(-3)^2
